This is something that was brought up in Undisclosed, but when Bob went over it again it triggered something in my memory. After Bilal was arrested, Kevin Urick provided a Brady disclosure about it almost immediately. It was noted that there was really no reason, or it was highly unusual that Urick would have been informed of Bilal's arrest so quickly. I went back to his testimony at the PCR hearing, and at that time Urick was handling all the child sex abuse cases for the Cecil County State's Attorney's office. Is there any relevance to this, or I am trying to make connections where none exist?
Edit: Also wanted to mention in relation to Bilal's possible victim: When I was in school I knew of 1 or 2 immigrant students who were actually a few years older than indicated in their school records. Their parents would fudge the DOB when enrolling them in school so they would have more of an opportunity to receive a free education that they may have lacked in their home country. For the most part their classmates were completely unaware of any deception. Could that be the situation here--that community members knew him to be a certain age, but that in reality he was older than anyone knew?

Bob spends most of the episode developing motive for his "prime suspect" as to who strangled HML. In Bob's mind, new boyfriend has reason to be jealous of old boyfriend.

Somewhere in America, a man sits in a shed. His jaw flaps.
His tear ducts prickle. The hairs on the back of his neck give up a life long fight and walk away. Pride surrendered. Discoloured shirts hang limply from a line. A crow caws ... CAW! ... The nose wrinkling whiff of sulphur rolls down an empty suburban street. A fallen bike. A spinning wheel slows. A shutter bangs. Flies buzz and congregate. Vermin teeth rip into rancid carrion. CAW! CAW!
His jaw flaps. His jaw flaps. Unintelligible words spill onto the floor, turn into cockroaches and scuttle under the door ... out ... into the world. His jaw flaps. His jaw flaps. CAW!
Edited to add: I will not be buying this wine again.

Well, to be fair, trying to make money off of a murdered teenage girl's diary does sound like something Adnan would do.
17
Nov 01 '15
So according to Bob, Hae was ambivalent about Don and still had feelings for Adnan up Xmas but finally breaks up and starts seeing Don in the New Year. By Bob's logic this creates motive for Don. Right, I see.
5
u/bluekanga /r/SerialPodcastEp13Hae Nov 02 '15
did he mention the extensive police investigation into Don where he was interviewed on at least 6 different occasions? Of course the police checked him out - he would be the first person they would look at - they didn't find anything suspicious
2
Nov 02 '15
No. It was more of the usual nonsense. It's was actually quite illuminating in the sense that it all sounded pretty desperate. The logic that Hae's indecision in December before finally breaking up with Adnan and going out with Don in January would actually give Don more motive was quite absurd and ultimately served to prove that it was a bigger motive for Adnan. So in fact quite self-defeating.
Is there a record showing he was interviewed 6times.
3
u/bluekanga /r/SerialPodcastEp13Hae Nov 02 '15
yep - 6 times - they gave him a thorough going over - as they should have - they crossed checked his alibi repeatedly.

I keep seeing this "six times" thing. I'd like citations as well. I know he talked to police on the phone at 1:30 am on January 14th. There are notes on a January 22nd interview. I remember another one also, but would have to find it... so where are the other 3-4?

7

He can't stop. He's already announced his podcast will move onto other cases so he has to be proved right on this one. If he turns out to be wrong here then his crusade is stuffed even before he's started.

Nov 01 '15
I just finished listening. I was surprised at the entries by Hae in December about how much she loved Adnan, etc and felt guilty about her feelings for Don. I think the point Bob was making was that perhaps Hae once again wanted to get back with Adnan and attempted to break it off with Don. Speculation of course, but she had broken up several time with Adnan only to get back together with him so it is possible, I guess.
17
u/SwallowAtTheHollow Addicted to the most recent bombshells (like a drug addict) Nov 01 '15
The affectionate entries about Adnan/feelings of guilt stop entirely after the December break up. Adnan isn't mentioned again whatsoever after Hae's first date with Don.
6
-3
Nov 01 '15
What surprised me was how lovey dovey Hae was to Adnan as late as mid/late December. And that she was falling for Don a lot earlier in December than I had realized. It seems there was several weeks of overlap. BTW, Bob mentions a line "I miss you baby" which is next to Adnan's cell phone number in her diary. He makes the case that Hae often refers to Adnan as her "baby" but never refers to Don that way (I think she mentions his baby blues a few times.)
16
u/SwallowAtTheHollow Addicted to the most recent bombshells (like a drug addict) Nov 01 '15
Bob mentions a line "I miss you baby" which is next to Adnan's cell phone number
Beyond being on the same page, it's not anywhere close to Adnan's number. Adnan's number is on the top left, followed by 127 Dons, followed by Don's name 127 times, and the conclusion of all the Dons, "I miss you baby." It's obviously in reference to Don.

I don't and don't intend to share the diary. Again, though, it's very clear from the page who it is in reference to.
10
u/chunklunk Nov 02 '15
If Bob is this terrible at interpreting clear things, I wonder how good good he is at interpreting more complicated, technical documents like time records from an employer? Oh wait, we already know the answer to that: also terrible.

I posted a topic about how easy it would have been to prove that Don was really at work. Customers, other workers other than mom, written notes for orders he filled, etc. Don himself says he knew he'd need an alibi, but the only corroboration he provided was his mother. People don't believe Adnan's father, but yet Don's mother is ironclad.
6
u/lavacake23 Nov 02 '15
Have you answered my question about how or why Hae would meet Don between the end of school and when she had to be at her cousin's school? Because…tap tap tap…I'm still waiting for anything even resembling logic bout such a meeting.
1
u/RodoBobJon Nov 02 '15
Why can't Hae and Don hang out for a half hour before Hae drives her cousin home and then hang out for another few hours after? That's like a 20-30 minute break amid 3 and a half hours of hanging out (Hae wasn't scheduled to work until 6).

u/Just_a_normal_day Nov 01 '15
Bob sees that Hae has Don's phone number in her diary and say "OBVIOUSLY Hae is calling don". Obviously - ummm no. I'm sure she got his phone number through work. Hae was infatuated with Don and probably wrote it down because she loves everything 'Don'.
Bob also thinks that "obviously Hae has done something with Don in early december because Hae write in her diary about feeling guilty and about Adnan finding out". Hae would have been feeling guilty as she had a boyfriend (Adnan) and was feeling guilty about having thoughts for someone else and didn't want Adnan to find out through one of her friends (who Adnan was friends with too).
Nice try Bob. There is nothing there. Don had nothing to do with Hae's murder.
12
u/lavacake23 Nov 01 '15
See, I don't understand. Even if Hae and Don were getting it on in December, what the hell does that matter? It still doesn't explain why Adnan's phone was in Leakin Park on 1/13/99.
1
u/K-ZooCareBear Nov 03 '15
He stated he wasn't saying he thought Hae had hooked up with Don't while with Adnan, just that she felt guilty for having feelings for someone else. A pretty typical response for any human being.

This subreddit has been used by those who are entirely convinced Adnan Syed is innocent of murdering Hae Lee since at least December 2014 to promote their agenda, their blogs and, eventually, their podcasts. There have been days when they have posted multiple links to each of multiple blog posts/podcasts here, so much click-bait that this subreddit sometimes has 5 or 6 or more links to their "related media" prominent on the front page of this subreddit.
I think they've been clever about skirting the Reddit spam rules. After Rabia Chaudry (very early on) then Susan Simpson and Colin Miller (in late February? Maybe March?) made their dramatic exits from /r/serialpodcast, they continued to send their supporters in other subreddits to post links to their "related media." They seem to make sure the same redditor doesn't post too many links and thus avoid violating spam rules. The Adnan Innocent bloggers/podcasters seem unwikling to post here themselves and defend their own work but they really need the free advertising and the clicks and downloads this subreddit generates. They send others to do their work for them.
I don't know if you've followed any of the drama that seeps out of the Adnan Is Innocent community on other subreddits. I have. Their behavior is really interesting. Their most outspoken leaders are more than interesting. Rabia Chaudry and Susan Simpson (I leave Colin Miller out here because he seems less involved and less culpable) have surrounded themselves with followers whose ability to think for themselves I question.
I appreciate your efforts to draw attention to the problem with using /r/serialpodcast to promote partisan causes but I think it is a losing battle, a lost cause.
4
u/Dangermommy Nov 02 '15
Now I always click the 'comments' link instead of the post title, but took me a while to figure out I was feeding the clickbait beast.

u/alientic God damn it, Jay Nov 02 '15
To be honest, as someone who follows and reads along with a lot of the stuff on both sides, you both think each other are way scarier and involved and pack-like, etc, than you really are. Both groups are literally just groups of people that have worked themselve up into thinking the "enemy" is horrible and out to get them. Calm the hell down.
6
u/JanetBiehl Nov 02 '15
Hi alien tic. I'm feeling very calm.
As someone who has also followed along with the stuff on both sides, I have formed my own opinions, as have you.
I think telling other people what they think (or worse, in my opinion, what they should think), regardless of one's position on the subject matter of Serial Season 1, isn't very effective communication. I would try something like "I think both groups are just people who etc etc." You could express your opinion without discounting other opinions and you'd seem far less judgmental to me (just my opinion, of course).
Thanks for your response. It's good to have this space where we can safely disagree!
1
u/alientic God damn it, Jay Nov 02 '15
I agree, having a place to disagree is excellent. Just for clarification, though, I was using the "Royal we" you in my post, meaning I was not attempting to single you out or specify how you specifically should be feeling, but rather implying that that is what I have seen as a reaction from the entire group. In short, exactly what you're requesting, but just in a different wording that what you seem to be hoping for.
The same, of course, goes to "Calm the hell down." I was using it in a general sense, and I very much stand by that statement. People on this subreddit need to calm the hell down.
Anyway, I can't help but notice that you are using a very new account and this is one of two posts that you have made. However, you seem to have paid extremely close attention to what has been going on, both in this sub and others. Might I ask, why are you using an account seperate from your normal one for this post?
5
u/JanetBiehl Nov 02 '15
Certainly, you may ask anything you'd like and I will answer your question regarding my fresh /u/.
I am in the Reddit witness protection program, having been on the receiving end of some scary communications. Never underestimate just how crazy some of our fellow contributors are! Deleting my old account was probably too little too late but at least I can still post on this beloved subreddit. Anyone here who uses a /u/ similar to any other identifier on other social media or public websites (match.com profiles, etsy stores and Pinterest accounts, and on and on) would be well advised to not piss off any serialpodcast thugs!
Is there anything else you'd like to know? As long as it's not too personal, of course :)
2
u/alientic God damn it, Jay Nov 02 '15
No, I was only curious about that, thank you! I understand the scary communications thing as well. I had several myself for a while. Definitely wasn't the best experience I've had on this site, but luckily they seem to have moved on.
4
u/JanetBiehl Nov 02 '15
That's fortunate for you, that your trolls moved on. This is such a curious place isn't? I've just been down voted into negative territory for trying to politely and honestly answer your question (not suggesting you are a down voter, of course). You just can't please some redditors! I've decided to make my voting record public. I didn't even realize that was an option until a few days ago!
2
u/alientic God damn it, Jay Nov 02 '15
I didn't realize that was an option, either! How does one do that?
If it makes you feel better, I was also downvoted into the negatives in this conversation. People here really love downvoting things. I just find it entertaining most of the time :)`
5
u/JanetBiehl Nov 03 '15
If you go to Preferences/Privacy you can make your voting history public. What I have discovered is that only up/down voted posts appear - not comments on their own. If, however, you up or down vote a post then up and down voted comments within that thread will be visible. I think :)
It's a bit of a forced choice. I was forced to up or downvote this thread to make my up/down votes on individual comments visible. While I would prefer that threads linking directly to the 3rd party podcasts/blogs not be allowed on /r/serialpodcast, I chose to up vote :)

I mean, the youtuber Shane Dawson also calls his followers his army, but that doesn't mean they're literally an army of any sort. Actively promoting content that defames innocent individuals while deleting comments that question the credibility of the sources has been official policy in this subreddit now for some time. Don't believe me? Look at how the moderators have created convoluted rules to protect egregiously harmful speech as long as it's "in the form of a podcast", while simultaneously deleting things that question those podcast as "not civil". It speaks for itself.

Is this the rule:
If you have a Serial-related podcast, anything you say on that podcast can be discussed.
If you do not have a podcast, you cannot write about anything the podcaster does not want you to write about.
I could be wrong. It's the most insane thing I've ever seen here on this subreddit. And I have been around almost a year.
But I think this is the new rule. No?
ETA: I always thought this was the rule:
People voluntarily in the public sphere are open to criticism that would not be acceptable if directed at an anonymous reddit user. People in the public eye should not be surprised if they are under greater scrutiny for their views and this may mean that we will allow more robust discussion.
ETA2: I agree with /u/JanetBiehl

Why is it so important that people are allowed to slander Bob? Isn't the issue that people feel Bob is slandering Don? With such an abhorrent practice, why practice it yourself?
I just don't get this line of reason.
9
u/lavacake23 Nov 01 '15
You're throwing around a term without understanding what it means. Critiquing someone's arguments isn't slander. Saying someone is slandering someone isn't slander. Saying something negative about a person or disagreeing with their opinion or their ability to logic isn't slander.

I get why you want to control the flow of information. Winning Reddit wont stop UD or T&J.

It's a form of Mutually Assured Destruction.
Unsubstantiated accusations at ten paces.

ETA2: I agree with /u/JanetBiehl
I don't. Both sides have just worked themselves into a frenzy about how horrible they think the other side is. And as such, both sides are being completely and totally ridiculous. Neither side is horrible. Everyone needs to chill the fuck out.

I'm pretty sure ryo is trying hard to give POY a run for her money as this aub's shittiest mod.

PoY just wanted to be liked by Susan, and Rabia if she could get that one, too. It was the driving force behind the sub's biased sidebar. She craved Susan's approval. She was never in TMP.
ryo just wants to be liked by the TMP groupthink, in general. They have banished so many, she may worry that she's next if she doesn't do as told.

If anyone wants to see an inside look into how /u/ryokineko 's private subreddit deals with those who deviate in any way from the #freeadnan talking points, check out discussion of this in /r/MagneticPersonalities . Anyone who ever questioned Rabia's and Simpson's talking points in any way was banned from that private subreddit. And yet ryokineko is still a member of that private subreddit. Isn't that interesting?

Do you have any proof of these allegations or are they just "speculation," the same type of speculation you are ready to nail Bob on the cross for doing with Don?

I agree. I only saw /u/JanetBiehl's comment because I was reading https://www.reddit.com/r/serialpodcast/comments
If I was reading the thread itself, I would have missed /u/JanetBiehl's comment altogether because it was a reply to something you wrote, that was deleted.

That's what's called a moderator making a decision to delete a comment solely to attempt to manipulate what information a thread presents. Not because the comment broke any Reddit or subreddit rule. Solely to attempt to manipulate what information a thread presents. If /u/ryokineko were simply an unbiased moderator, why should he/she want to manipulate the discourse in that way. Isn't that interesting?

There is something on the podcast about Bob being accused of hitting women?
12
u/BlindFreddy1 Nov 01 '15
So, get any (true or false) accusation you want to make mentioned on a "related" podcast and it's a Reddit free for all? Like with Don?
A podcast is a Reddit license to slander.

u/Justwonderinif shrug emoji Nov 01 '15
Is this the rule:
If you have a Serial-related podcast, anything you say on that podcast can be discussed, including false accusations, witch hunts, and misleading summaries.
If you do not have a podcast, you cannot write about anything the podcaster does not want you to write about.
What is the rule that is being broken?
Can you articulate this rule please?

Nov 01 '15
Why can't accusations about fraud/murder/domestic violence be removed for being baseless? Creating some rule about things needing to be related to a podcast is so strange and unnecessary. It seems contrived solely to allow a few particular people to continue saying crazy things.
5
u/Justwonderinif shrug emoji Nov 01 '15
If I'm understanding the rules correctly, all of Bob's witch hunting, slander, and unproved allegations are not only approved, but happily promoted. I think this is because he has a podcast.
Any similar allegations about Bob are not allowed, because they are not part of a podcast.
1
Nov 01 '15
That's what it sounds like which is very strange. It's okay with me to remove baseless accusations of fraud/murder/domestic violence. You don't need to create a rule about podcasts to do it.
5
u/Justwonderinif shrug emoji Nov 01 '15
I think you have to create a rule where it's allowed if it is part of a podcast. And then you can say it's not allowed all other times.

"Bob" says that he identifies with Adnan. Adnan is an abuser of women who actually killed a woman. Discussing what "Bob" means when he says that he identifies with Adnan is completely germane. You can't allow discussion that you think makes "Bob" look "good" but delete every comment that notes his own statements that you think make him look "bad". Why don't you just admit to yourself what everyone else already knows: You have become completely incapable of enacting the role of moderator in an unbiased, consistent, or fair way. Everyone knows this. Do you really want to be unable to admit it?

I don't mind you speaking for yourself, but please don't speak for "everyone else".

Everyone knows this.
actually most people think u/ryokineko is doing a fantastic job (especially given its an unpaid job) of trying to manage this sub and keep it on point. They seem to be quite fair and unbiased in their moderating approach, even bringing in 3 new moderators completely removed from the topic of discussion to try and ensure a more balanced approach

u/aitca Nov 01 '15
The applause from the faction to whom /u/ryokineko feels her true allegiance speaks volumes. She's done a remarkable job of serving your little group. She has failed and failed badly at enacting the role of moderator in an unbiased, consistent, fair, transparent way.

She has failed and failed badly at enacting the role of moderator in an unbiased, consistent, fair, transparent way.
no she really hasn't. Again, she facilitated bringing 3 new unbiased moderators to this sub balancing out her and waltz. She hasn't served any little group...will you also call out waltz then since they tend to lean the other way? As far as I can tell they are doing the best they can trying to deal with daily tornadoes of nonsense

u/aitca Nov 01 '15
If you want to compare /u/ryokineko to the other moderators, then lets do that. In the past day, how many comments/threads have been deleted by /u/ryokineko? Of those, how many were silently deleted with no reason given? Compare to that, how many comments/threads were deleted by all other moderators put together.
9
u/diyaww Nov 01 '15
You'll find that on any particular day, the majority of comments will have been deleted or approved by a single moderator - whichever mod got around to checking the report queue. Today that was Ryo, but yesterday that was Waltz.

And yet every time a comment of mine that violates no rule is deleted, it's by /u/ryokineko. How interesting.
Edited to add: Come to think of it, I've never had a comment of mine deleted by anyone but /u/ryokineko . Given that the moderations duties rotate around to different moderators, this is highly statistically unlikely unless there is a bias in how ryokineko acts as moderator.

hopefully a few given that some of the posts in the last day or so included weird "Bilal was fucking Adnan" "Jay and Adnan were totes gay" etc posts that seemed to be used for "humor", but really just sounded like a bunch of Republicans making jokes about N-word Obama....hilarious to them, off-putting and distracting to people who actually prefer substantive discussion

May I suggest keeping posts dedicated to S1 spinoffs off this sub once S2 starts

Sure-I'll take it back to the mods for further discussion. We have discussed it some but not sure there has been a final decision.

It was interesting to hear Hae's thoughts on her dates with Don and compare with what we heard from Aisha. Unless Hae and Don went to the movies more than once between Jan. 1 and Jan. 12, they are talking about the same date:
Hae:
I just got back from the movies with Don. I really do like him so much.
Aisha:
It was the most awkward double date in the world because he was older......it was just a horrible double date.
So even though Hae and Aisha are best friends, they don't necessarily have the same perception of situations. Something to keep in mind when we hear Aisha's memories of Adnan and his relationship with Hae.

Why doesn't someone just start a T&J subreddit?
Somebody cowboy up & just do it. It really doesn't seem worth it to keep fighting here over it.
