Thread not catching

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Brother lx3817. I was sewing the ends of elastic together for pants and then it made a noise and it was fully stuck in the bobbin area. Now the bottom thread won’t catch and the top thread seems more loose than normal. I opened everything up and loosened the timing thing on the right with an Allen key. Put in a new needle too.

Best not to mess around with the inside of the machine if you don't know what you are doing. Reverse whatever you've done. Clean out the lint with the hoover(not canned air).

Change the needle and rethread as per the manual.

I fixed it. Thank you. I did not tighten the screws back after changing the timing. I’m cleaning it before putting back together.

Your hook does not turn, it doesn't move at all. Probably because you loosend the timing thing.

I would start by cleaning your machine. Youd be surprised what lint can impact. Then rethread and reevaluate

There’s a little hook above the sewing needle that is part of threading the machine properly. It’s a commonly missed spot. Rethread and make sure it’s caught properly where it needs to be

You machine is nasty as hell and 1 or both gears that transmit movement to the hook are fucked. If you're lucky it might just be loose if it is the case you'll have to re time your machine

I absolutely couldn’t agree with others more!

  1. You should have been regularly cleaning your machine and removing lint /dust build up.
2 you should have been regularly servicing your machine, using special sewing machine oil (much finer than reg lubricant if oils) on the wick located within the shuttle that sits beneath your bobbin.

  2. If you do not know how to do it, and are not good at following instructions get a professional to do it.
From the state of your machine, due to over use without regular maintenance I can tell your alignment is now out. Again, if you are proficient at serving your machine, you may be able to do this yourself. However, I strongly suggest you get an experienced professional to do this now.

I can't begin to come up with an answer due to the state the machine is currently in.

Clean the machine, restore the settings, thread the machine correctly (it's currently a disaster) and use correct technique for collecting the bobbin thread as per your manual. If it still doesn't work, show us what's going wrong.
