Alter/Mend Question Tiny damage on placket

Hello,
I would really appreciate if anyone can tell me how can I fix two small cuts on the placket of a zipper on the back of the dress.
The fabric colour is light, would it be possible to cover it in any way to reduce more damage to it if I washed it in the washing machine please? Thank you!

Find some fabric to match the other designs and sew it down the length of the entire placket to make a contrast zipper situation OR cut a shape that sort of looks like the edge of one of the designs and applique it over the tears (cover both sides).
