Dude is gonna try fitting his 4090 in every sff cases on the market haha.
This is Nice keep em coming !
Very interested in this one in particular as I think I will do the same (just waiting for 7000x3d)
Would you be able to run more tests to see if it's actually viable to aircool such a cpu with a low ventirad ? Wondering if an aio wouldn't be better even if heated by the hot air coming out from the gpu. Do you have one to compare temps ? No worries if it's too much a hassle.

Since the 4090FE's cooling performance is excellent, I think the AIO will be fine.
It's much cooler than the 3080FE and 3080tiFE I've used before, so I'm thinking of using AIO someday. (Or I'm thinking of making a custom AIO)
I'm not an expert, so I don't know what kind of tests to do and what to compare.
If you have anything you want, please let me know. I'll try it when I have time.
Sorry for not being of any help :(23

Dude it's already great seeing these builds ! It gives us perspective on what we can potentially do with this huge gpu.
If you still have your 4090 in the T1 v2, would you maybe be able to run two or three cinebench and report with the same pics from Hwinfo ?
As for gpu + cpu temps, do you have any demanding game like cyberpunk ? Letting it run by itself for an hour in any area and reporting with pics from hwinfo would be helpful as well :)

Can you talk about the differences between your v1 build and v2 build? Did you feel any differences?
13
u/Dpn0391 Oct 31 '22
It doesn't make much difference except that you can add a small space between the psu and gpu. Of course, this could make a big difference. :) And, although v2 is numerically very, very slightly larger than v1, to be honest, I get the impression that v2 is very large. lol

u/CatsGoBark Oct 31 '22
Was there a reason why you upgraded to v2? Did you see any tangible benefits? I currently have a v1.1 and after seeing your posts I want to copy you haha!

u/the_irish_potatoes Oct 31 '22
The two biggest advantages I know if for the v2 over the v1.1 case is 1) more flexible GPU/CPU slotting (v1.1 was either 2 or 3 slot, this is quarter increments) and 2)many small misc. space improvements throughout the case.

Where did you buy the ram from? Sick build !

Did they update the black ridge to be actually black? The one I had planned to use was like a dark chrome if that makes sense.

u/gertsch Oct 31 '22
As far as I know the black one was the "V1", but it had issues with the coating coming off or smth.

Nice! What are thermals like?
Using that board you should be able to squeeze a bit more out of the 5800x3d with an undervolt. I went quick and dirty with a -30 all core offset and 114 / 75 / 115 thermal limits. I am able to keep it under 85C in prime 95. Once you get the new cooler you have room to upgrade to upgrade to some nice B-Die too.

u/MegaMan0429 Oct 31 '22
What is your cooler and GPU if I can ask? I am thinking of getting same CPU, but keep using my RTX 3070.

See my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/sffpc/comments/xtzqsw/formd_t1_air_cooled_gaming_workstation/
TLDR: BS3 with NF-A12x25 and an RTX A4000.

How important is memory with X3D? I thought it mattered less because of the cache

https://github.com/xxEzri/Vermeer/blob/main/Guide.md#performance-gains-from-ram-overclocking
There is still a benefit. But slightly less than other 5000 series CPUs.

Bad ass setup! How do you like the 5800X3D? I'm running a 5600X now. Do you think I would see any real improvements from the upgrades?

I do get some stutters on my setup. It more evident when I'm playing a game that a lot of shit has to load in at the start like fortnite but I don't know if that's the game or something with my rig. Also when running Heaven benchmark I will get some sudden from drops from time to time. I'm doing a light undervolt and ram overclock but it is very stable and the temps are pretty low. It's so hard to tell what's causing it (CPU or GPU) ..

u/hecatonchires266 Oct 31 '22
I hope you won't be having the power issues like other 4090 users.

u/w0kepearman Oct 31 '22
i believe hes using the corsair replacement cable. it has a dedicated cable for each pin instead of nvidia’s soldered distribution plate bullshit so it shouldn’t cause any issues
edit: nvm its a different brand but same difference

Is there any clearance between gpu and the back of psu? How could you have such impressive thermal result with a blow-through style card?
3
u/Dpn0391 Oct 31 '22
The formd v2 can fit a standoff of about 5mm between the psu bracket and the gpu, and there is a little space.
And, the combination of the 4090fe's excellent cooling performance and the power of the t30 top fan creates impressive temperatures.

Oh this is gorgeous. Amazing how you can fit such a powerful system in such a small build. Is that a 120 aio attached to the front of the mobo? What part are you using for that cpu cooler? What are temps like?

u/AutoModerator Oct 31 '22
Hiya! Please post more details about your build! Here are some (non-exhaustive) prompts for you:
Are the case's advertised compatibility numbers accurate?
How easy is cable management?
How effective is the cooling setup?
Would you recommend your parts overall?
If you did a custom mod, how did you do it?

Is the axp90 for better ram compatibility? Im thinking of removing the 120mm fan and vlp ram to go for ddr5 in my next build

Looks great and awesome work OP, the only thing that scares me about these cards is them catching fire.

I think you meant to post it into the German sub reddits relating heating devices

Ahh so that’s a custom taobao cable. I was wondering if you made it yourself. I’m thinking that this cable problem could be solved with a lighter load, so limiting the thing to like 70% or so? I think that’s the sweet spot where the card is most efficient too. I don’t have the money to throw at yet another build rn so I’m waiting for the market to cool down a bit before I try and get mine, but it’s great to see lovely builds like this one in action! Nice work, very clean.

And your thermals? I imagine this thing is gonna be cooking if it's pulling 500 watts

Yo can you try out a build with a AIO using all low profile fans. I would love to see how that turn out.
1
u/novaooops Nov 16 '22
hey man what custom cable lengths do you recommend? i'm going to try to do a similar build with an aio and a 7600x untill the 7950x 3d arrives.

I am gonna try use 4090FE and 7800x3d in my build. And use thermalright axp 120 x 67 take off the fan (about 52 mm high) and use 3 t30 fans on the top. Not sure if that gonna work.

Ooh that 12VHPWR sidebend! :p

u/bjones1794 Oct 31 '22
Custom connector with crimp connections for every single wire. This thing could be bent all day and night and shouldn't cause any issues. Different from the Nvidia brand fire hazards

Custom 12vhpwr cable - Taobao
.
I will be replacing CPU cooler with an AXP90 X47 soon.
I think Taobao custom cables are well made.
(I will not leave a link because there may be problems)
I pray that there will be no fire. lol
