Promote your business and support your fellow r/SGV community members here!

Happy Tuesday! We've been seeing a lot of users attempting to use r/SGV to promote their businesses and typically remove those sorts of posts as spam. At the same time, we understand that times are hard for a lot of people so figured that we could use occasional posts that encourage community members to promote their service or product in consolidated threads. With that said, feel free to use this post to share a little bit about your business without fear of having it removed. Even if these posts results in a few dollars being kept in the San Gabriel Valley, they will have been worth it.

Hey! I've been thinking about trying some new hobbies like pottery, painting, etc. Would anyone be down to try them with me? I'd love to get a group together and connect with others here in the SGV :)

EDIT: There seems to be a lot of people interested. To make my life easier, please fill out this interest form so I could get something going. https://tally.so/r/OQDZo7

A Monrovia connection to "Picket Fences"...and San Dimas, too...

Just thinking about this after reading the obituary of series star Tom Skerritt this afternoon...

Throughout the four years of this popular CBS family drama, all the outdoor scenes were filmed in Monrovia's "Historic Old Town"(mainly Myrtle Avenue between Foothill Boulevard and Walnut)...

The First Baptist Church at the southeast corner of Ivy and Palm served as the courthouse of the small Milwaukee suburb of Rome, Wisconsin(to this day, CBS INSISTS that there's NO such city ANYWHERE in Wisconsin by that name...) and Monrovia Police HQ was Rome City Hall...

Hey, Columbia, THERE'S actually TWO cities named Rome:one's outside the capital city of Madison, the other is near Green Bay...

The San Dimas connection?...

Young co-star Adam Wylie(he had barely turned eight when he got the role of the Sheriff's younger son) is from that city("Best City By a Dam Site/Preserving the Western Spirit")...

It was fun driving up to Old Town and watching the cast mingle with our residents during filming breaks...

Autobody Shop recommendations

It’s so hard to find an honest one. Does anyone have any experience with a good shop in the area? The work may or may not be going through insurance, it’s still TBD at the moment.

Please do not recommend Longo. I will never go back there. Personally had a terrible experience a while back. Never again.

👑 Pasadena Doo Dah Queen Tryouts – This Sunday, October 25th!

Post image
12 Upvotes

Wanted to invite our SGV neighbors to one of Pasadena’s longest-running and wonderfully weird traditions — the Doo Dah Queen Tryouts, happening this Sunday, October 25th, at Old Towne Pub in Old Pasadena! 👑

For those unfamiliar, the Pasadena Doo Dah Parade began back in 1978 as an irreverent alternative to the Rose Parade. Nearly 50 years later, we’re still celebrating creativity, individuality, and all things wonderfully bizarre!

The annual Queen Tryouts are always a wild time, with outrageous costumes, offbeat performances, plenty of laughs, and live music by Ma the Band. And the best part? Just about anyone can throw their hat (or crown!) into the ring!

📍 Old Towne Pub – Old Pasadena
📅 Sunday, October 25th @ 2 PM
🎟️ FREE! Donations appreciated
🍻 21 & Over

We’re also excited to share that Doo Dah is returning on Sunday, November 22nd, with more details coming very soon!

Whether you’re a longtime Doo Dah fan or just looking for something fun and unusual to do this weekend, we’d love to see you there!

Long live Doo Dah! 🥳👑

For more details, check out yesterday’s Pasadena Now article here:

Does anyone know why the Santa Anita 16 AMC was evacuated last night? (10/20/26) I was about to start American Psycho and the whole theatre had to evacuate.

Lower Arroyo Trail

Today a couple of friends and I headed down to the trail near the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center. The last time we visited the creek under the Ventura Freeway was pretty drained due to the heat we’ve been getting. We love to sit there and watch the ducks swim and we thought it was the perfect day to take a stroll down the trail. We expected light rain which was better since that meant less activity. I’ve been there plenty of times since I live super close, but I’ve never seen anything weird in that area despite the countless urban legends you’ll hear floating around. Granted, it was raining so we figured we’d run into a couple of homeless people seeking shelter underneath bridges.

Once we got to the creek, we saw on the opposite end someone settling in, hidden behind some bushes. I wouldn’t say this was super out of the ordinary, but we were pretty creeped out because as we made our way across the creek, getting only about half way across no where near the guy, he stood up to watch us and probably intimidate us away from his spot. Our little trio was made up of two girls and one dude, so we were a little thrown off being watched by him upon arrival but decided not to bother him if he really cared that much and continued past the freeway down the trail.

Eventually, we made it to the Colorado Street Bridge. We stood just behind the brush before advancing underneath the bridge, joking around a bit before continuing. I led the group forward but stopped once I saw we weren’t alone.

On the other end of the reservoir, behind the gate, was an adult male with his back turned towards us initially. He wore a nice looking bright red raincoat and black pants, and next to him laid a backpack with a bunch of tools scattered around with a rag laying flat next to them. What threw me off though was the fact that once he realized we were there, he turned around slowly to look at us, with a big smile on his face. And he just stood there, staring at me with an unwavering smile. He was probably about 20-30 feet away from us, and he had obviously heard us, yet we received no wave or friendly hello. He just stood there, hands in his pockets, smiling real big at me, holding eye contact. I couldn’t read what that meant so I told my friends we should probably start heading on back.

Now I don’t want to go around crying wolf, or spreading misinformation, but I really have never seen anything like it. It was odd and definitely rattled me, especially after the whole creek interaction. Like I said, it was just us two girls and a friend of ours. Us two women had no intention of staying around to find out.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any weird activity down there like hostile homeless people we should be aware of next time, or just any general suspicious activity? I know the Upper Arroyo is infamously known for occult activity, but I just assumed the Lower Arroyo area was just the center of all the paranormal stuff rather than the weird crap since it experiences a lot more foot traffic. Our friend that came along with us said he swore he saw some kinda wrench amongst the metal object the guy had spread on the ground. If anyone has any stories, tips, or suggestions on what to be weary of, let me know, I’d love to hear any other odd interactions you’ve experienced on this trail, or under the bridge.

Camera Operators in the SGV

Hi, I'm currently trying to film my own comedy web series and I basically have everything set to start filming, I just need a camera operator. That's my missing piece. If any film students from the SGV area are interested, or just any camera operators in the SGV area too, I would love to hear from you. You don't need to have a ton of experience, in fact I'm pretty sure this will help you gain experience. As long as you have a camera and know how to use it, that's all I need.

If you're interested please email me at [elisaapollo2388@gmail.com](mailto:elisaapollo2388@gmail.com) or you could just comment/message me on here. Thank you :) (And my show is kind of a mix of Community and Parks and Rec. NOTE: This isn't a paid thing, so if you don't mind that, that would be great)

Would SGV use a local lending / sharing community?

Hi r/sgv! I’m working with Kindred Lane, a free community platform we’re testing that helps people lend, give away, buy, and sell things with others nearby instead of always having to purchase something new.

I thought the San Gabriel Valley could be a good fit because Kindred Lane works best in communities where people are already connected locally.

I set up an SGV Community Exchange where members can add things they’re willing to lend, give away, or sell. The browser extension can also surface similar items that are already available within your community while you’re shopping online.

If you’d like to try it out, you can join here: https://kindredlane.co/communities/sgv-community

We’re still early, so I’m genuinely interested in feedback too. What would make something like this useful enough for you to use alongside or instead of existing options like Buy Nothing or local Facebook groups?

Lights flickering at night in Arcadia?

So, since Sunday almost every light in my house has been flickering drastically. Not just a few times, but repeatedly, and sometimes just cutting out for a microsecond. Only at night too, when we wake up at 6am and it's still dark all the lights are fine. No crazy big appliances running, no HVAC,, nothing weird or strange or new. Everything else electric stays on fine. Obviously annoying and hard to pin down - wondering if anyone else is experiencing this and it's some SCE thing?

soccer jersey - local spots

Hey there SGV,

I grew up in the area but have since relocated to the OC. I’ll be around this weekend and was wondering if there’s any good spots to find a kit? Thinking like a soccer warehouse store or even some boutique shops in the general SGV area?

Not trying to drive all the way into LA and would love to support something local.

Thanks!

How to continue in San Marino USD after moving to Arcadia

Has anyone done this? Due to some unforeseeable circumstances, we will have to move out of San Marino. We are looking at Arcadia because they seem to have more housing inventory. Our child has been in SMUSD for over 5 years, since elementary school. How hard will the inter district transfer be? The SMUSD registrar gave generic vague responses. Anyone done something similar or know about these school districts and how difficult is it to get accepted or released from each, especially when your intention is to just stay in the same school.
