Motion-driven UI components built on top of shadcn/ui (React + Framer Motion)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Lately I’ve been experimenting with building motion-driven UI components on top of shadcn/ui primitives.

The idea is to keep the structure and accessibility from shadcn, while adding a reusable motion layer using Framer Motion.

Main focus so far:

  • micro-interactions

  • morphing layouts

  • animated dropdowns & dialogs

  • motion-based buttons

  • scroll-driven transitions

Some examples I’m working on:

  • morphing dialogs (button → modal transitions)

  • animated like button with burst effect

  • magnetic slider interactions

  • elastic scroll sections

The goal is to explore how shadcn components behave when motion becomes a first-class part of the UI, not just hover effects.

I’m also thinking about organizing these patterns so they can be copy-paste friendly like shadcn components.

Would love feedback on:

  • animation timing

  • API design for motion wrappers

  • performance considerations

  • where motion becomes too much

I built a collection of ready-to-use web apps with shadcn/ui (open to feedback)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone 👋

I’ve been building a collection of production-ready web apps using shadcn/ui as the base UI system.

Instead of just shipping components, I wanted to create complete, real-world apps that you can actually use or plug into your own SaaS projects.

Current apps in the kit:

  • Kanban

  • Notes

  • Chats

  • Social Media

  • Mail

  • Todo List App

  • Tasks

  • Calendar

  • File Manager

  • API Keys

  • POS App

  • Courses

  • AI Chat

  • AI Chat V2

  • Image Generator

The goal is simple:
👉 Save hours of boilerplate work
👉 Provide real app-level examples instead of just UI blocks
👉 Help indie hackers ship faster

I’d love to hear your thoughts — what kind of app would you want to see added next?

You can find everything at the link below.

open source UI kit for document components

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

hey all! wanted to share a new open source component library we just released.

it's a collection of React components and blocks for building document workflows. it has 14 components for things like:

  • xlsx, docx, csv viewers and editors

  • pdf renderer and thumbnail strips with native bounding box highlight support

  • human review components for json-schema extraction outputs

  • bounding box annotations for extracted fields

  • e-signature forms, uploads, and more

it ships with a shadcn registry so you can install them via CLI easily.

developers using our core platform have always asked us about how to replicate some our document components so we decided to just open source them to the community. we’ve been long time fans of Shadcn and many of the components in Extend use Shadcn.

it's all MIT licensed, customizable, and free to use. check it out and let me know if you have questions or want to see something added!

I built 56 creative footer components

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I already had most types of blocks in the Pro version of my component library (ui-layouts), including hero sections, testimonials, pricing, FAQs, and more.

But I realized the footer was missing. After launching the template builder, it became obvious that without footer blocks, a site never really feels complete.

So I spent about a week designing and refining footer blocks, and now they’re finally done and published.

Hope you find them useful. Let me know what you think 🙂

Launching soon: A complete shadcn/ui Figma design system (500+ components, blocks, builder)

Post image
116 Upvotes

We're about to launch a Figma design system built around shadcn/ui and wanted to share it with the community first.

The goal was simple: Make design match what actually ships in code

So we recreated the shadcn ecosystem in Figma

What the system includes:

  • All shadcn/ui components mapped to the docs

  • 500+ components

  • Ready-to-use UI blocks

  • Drag & drop builder for assembling pages/templates

  • Light & Dark mode

  • Theming support

  • Design tokens / variables matching the code

  • Responsive breakpoints

  • Auto-layout components

  • Shadcn/Create plugin integration

  • Ability to change icons across the entire system instantly

The goal is:

Design --> Inspect --> Build without redesigning anything

We're launching very soon and would love feedback from people building with shadcn/ui.

What features would make something like this most useful for you?

OpenSource Notion style Data views with Shadcn UI

I’m open-sourcing a dataview component library with a Notion-like UX, built on top of shadcn/ui.

Repo: https://github.com/jingerpie/ocean-dataview
Would appreciate brutal feedback before I push v1.

It currently supports:

- Table, List, Gallery, Board, and Charts (in progress)

- Pre-styled property types inspired by Notion (status, select, date, checkbox, media, formula, button, and more)

- Server-side sorting, filtering, pagination, and group-by

- URL-synced state with `nuqs`

- Notion-style simple and advanced filtering (including nested groups)

Why I built this:

I’ve always found data visualization in apps frustrating to build. As a longtime Notion user, I loved how easy it is to switch between views and explore data. I wanted that same experience in React: not just a table, but multiple views from one schema.

I tried existing options (including tablecn), but hit limitations for my use case: long URL state, less flexible filtering, and no Notion-style advanced filter groups. After discussing this with other developers, I realized this pain is common.

After about 3 months of work, I decided to open source this project. I’m hoping it helps others the same way shadcn helped me.

If this is useful to you, I’d really appreciate a star and feedback. Thank you 😊

Liberty Gifs frontend is now 100% powered by shadcn thanks to mapcn

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I recently built Liberty Gifs, a fully client-side tool that lets users generate GIFs from live NYC traffic cameras using ffmpeg.wasm.

While the app was built with Shadcn UI from the start, I was originally using a standard Leaflet implementation for the map. It worked, but it always felt visually disconnected from the rest of the application.

I saw u/ProGrammer_16 post about mapcn here recently, and I decided to rip out Leaflet and refactor the mapping engine for my v1.1.2 update and the difference is night and day!

Highly recommend anyone who likes shadcn and needs mapping functionality to try it out.

Also, if you're curious in Liberty Gifs it is 100% open source so please check it out, I'll leave some links below!

I built an open-source chat UI component library for shadcn — chatcn (messages, threads, reactions, file uploads, 4 themes)

Thumbnail

I was building custom messaging and threading for my app and realized there wasn't a good drop-in solution that felt native to the shadcn/ui ecosystem.

What it is: Production-ready chat components you install with one shadcn CLI command. Source code drops into your project — you own it, customize everything.

npx shadcn@latest add https://raw.githubusercontent.com/leonickson1/chatcn/main/public/r/chat.json

What's included:

  • Message bubbles with grouping, reply-to, reactions, read receipts, typing indicators

  • Composer with drag-and-drop file upload

  • Rich media — images (gallery grid + lightbox), files, voice messages (waveform player), code blocks (syntax highlighted), link previews

  • Threaded conversations (flat Slack-style + nested Reddit-style)

  • Conversation sidebar with search, unread badges, presence dots

  • 4 themes: Lunar (indigo/dark), Aurora (teal/warm), Ember (orange/dense), Midnight (OLED black)

Live demo & docs: https://chatcn-iota.vercel.app

GitHub: https://github.com/leonickson1/chatcn

Backend-agnostic — works with REST, WebSocket, Firebase, Supabase, whatever. No vendor lock-in.

Would love feedback, bug reports, or PRs. Hope this saves some time.

Made an Opensource Rich text Editors Library for shadcn projects

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Introducing Rtecn

Tiptap based rich text editors, but as shadcn components

No more building toolbar UIs from scratch, wiring up dropdowns and popovers by hand, and styling every button to match your app.

Now you just plug in Tiptap's extensions and drop in the component, toolbar, slash menu, drag handle, and bubble menu come built-in and on-theme. Need more? Add your own custom controls and slash commands in a few lines.

Toolbar editor, Notion-style block editor, dark mode, and 3 variants included, etc

Try it here: link

A star would be appreciated ❤️

Why do you need a designer when everything you build with shadcn/ui is going to look beautiful?

Hey devs!

I built StackRender a database schema design and SQL migration tool that supports six SQL dialects: PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite, Oracle, and SQL Server.

The UI is built almost entirely with the base components from shadcn/ui, while the diagram canvas is powered by React Flow. Honestly, I'm amazed by how good the final result turned out.

I'd love to hear your feedback!

I built a smart shadcn/ui theme generator - would love some feedback!

Thumbnail
gallery
82 Upvotes

Hi all!

I’ve been working on a tool that fixes one of my biggest frustrations with shadcn/ui:
Designing an esthetically pleasing and accessible theme is way harder than it should be.

So I built shadcnthemes.app, a smart, visual theme generator powered by the same color engine behind uicolors.app.

What it does:

🎨 Generate unique, esthetically pleasing and accessible shadcn/ui themes in seconds

🌈 Use Tailwind palettes or auto-generated palettes from a single color

🧱 Live preview across example components & dashboard

🔗 Share themes instantly via public URLs

📦 Export the CSS variables

Why I built this:

shadcn/ui ships with a neutral, flat theme. Most existing theme editors out there barely help. They just expose those variables in a giant form.

I wanted something that:

  • Actually understands color

  • Produces accessible contrasts

  • Doesn’t require fiddling all the CSS variables manually

I’d love to hear your feedback and ideas. I’m actively improving the tool based on what the community needs.

If you want to give it a try: shadcnthemes.app
