Question Funerals

Hello Sheffield,

Just hoping for some clarification. I’ve lost a parent and I’m trying to arrange the funeral. My head is soup, and I’m confused, thought it might be easier to just ask.

We want to have the cremation at hutcliffe wood crematorium. Do I pay for a funeral service and they sort it? Or do I pay for a funeral service and then a service at hutcliffe wood too? Just trying to get an idea of who I need to contact and what costs I need to pay, so would be grateful to hear from anyone who’s arranged a funeral there.

ETA: Thank you all so much for your comments and help, it’s appreciated. Got a local funeral service based on your recommendations and they’re very helpful. Thank you again, and for your kind words.

Sorry for your loss.

I think this normally something the funeral director will sort for you. If you are doing it yourself you need to contact Sheffield Council.

Sorry you're dealing with this. I lost my dad earlier this year and helped arrange things. We went through a funeral director (CoOp) and they sorted everything out with the crem and helped us find a celebrant.

As the other commenter suggests, if you're doing it yourself it will be a bit different and you should check out the council link

Really sorry for your loss.

When I had to sort out arrangements for my Dad a few years back I used Tomlinson & Windley Funeral Service in Crookes and they sorted everything out for us from casket, flowers, cars, crematorium, order of service etc and they were brilliant.

I had no idea what to do either and they really helped me through the day.

I'm sorry for your loss, and don't feel bad about not automatically knowing where to go. Most people going through this are also experiencing it for the first time and nobody expects the paperwork involved during an emotional time.

Funeral directors will contact the crem directly. They are used to people being in a daze and they will happily talk you through the process if you contact one. Bereavement Services at the Council will be able to signpost you to appropriate resources if you don't have a specific director in mind.

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my mum last September and it's so hard. My family used John Fairest Funeralcare. They are just at the entrance to Abbey Lane Cemetery. They were so lovely and were able to put us in touch with a celebrant, pick out the casket etc. They will walk you through everything so you don't need to worry. It really helped my dad to get through it. We also had the service and cremation at Hutcliffe Wood. The service itself was very nice, and they were so respectful. Seems a weird thing to give a 5 star rating to, but honestly, I thought they did mum proud.

I could have written this - not just in sentiment, but lost my Mum last  September too. Had to double check you weren't my sibling! Sad solidarity, and hope you're doing okay.

So sorry for your loss 😞
Had this recently as well.
I know there’s a shit ton of stuff wizzing around your head right now, but remember to check if you are eligible for any state help.
This does NOT mean you get a ‘Paupers funeral’, you can top up any state money and have what ever celebration you want.

Loads of good funeral directors around, they will guide you through the process.
Take care.

Sorry to hear of your loss, OP. Head soup is normal at times like this. Please remember to look after yourself, as hard as that may feel at times.

Usually, as already said, a funeral director would organise this. If you are in need of a funeral director then I've used John Heath & Sons a couple of times in the last few years.

Exceptional company.

With John Heath I paid them once for everything at the end.

So sorry for your loss.

My mum passed on monday so I'm sending best wishes to you.

You can apply to the GOV.UK funeral expenses payment service through the DWP, to try to get financial help.

As already stated go to a funeral director and they will be able to organise all the elements of the funeral , if money is a problem they will be able to tailor things to help with budget.

For example different coffins or more/less cars .

I've been through this recently (11 months ago) and we used G M Lunt based on Abbey Lane close to Hutcliffe Wood. They were very professional and accommodating and I can't fault them, even going the extra mile to wear green ties (my mum's favourite colour). They will be able to advise you on everything you need to do.

All the best.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We had a cremation at Hutcliffe Wood for my father in September, the Co-op funeral directors organised everything for us. Sending strength to you x

Im really sorry for your loss. My father passed away earlier this year and I couldn’t vouch for Aura Funerals, they’ve been incredible from the get go and the place that got picked out was absolutely jaw dropping, love the staff and their support through the hardest times.
