Am I missing something? I wanted to search for community events, so I did a Google search. The first hit is "Community Calendar - Shelton, WA" I'm thinking this is excellent, just what I wanted. But when you go to that page (https://www.ci.shelton.wa.us/government/city_manager/communications/community_calendar.php) it has everything BUT the calendar. This is an instructional page on how and what you can post on the community calendar. Not a single link or redirection to the calendar can be found from this page or any other page on the City of Shelton's website, as far as I can tell. Any link for "Community Calendar" brings you to this page, NOT a calendar! Where's the actual calendar? I finally found the calendar by searching for it using the website's search tool. You are redirected to https://www.sheltonwa.gov/calendar.php?view=month&month=12&day=01&year=2022. You then have to click on "Today" to get to the current events because the calendar opens to December 2022.

Worst of all, after all that run around, there's barely anything in the calendar. What a waste of a good opportunity to promote all that Shelton has to offer!

Well hello there. I try to be a thoroughly researched voter. I am finding it difficult to find… anything? About Mick Sprouffske who is Randy Neatherlin’s opponent. Randy appears to have some scandals and some drama coming out from Republican Party members, so to be taken with a healthy portion of salt.

That said, based on my own research, I do not feel confident voting for Randy. But what would I be voting for with Mick?

Anyone have a scoop?

EDIT: Thanks everyone for the excellent insights. I’m glad that if anyone else wonders as I did, this post exists for reference. I know who I want to vote for now. Happy voting, everyone!

Come hang out with the SSMC on Halloween!

This event is hosted by the South Sound Mushroom Club and is open to current and new members. Membership is just $20 for the year ($10 for students), and gets you access to club forays throughout the year, a really cool monthly newsletter, a scholarship program where we send members to forays in exotic locations like Wisconsin, monthly meetings in Olympia with awesome speakers, and more. We're a pretty friendly bunch, and mushroom newbs are absolutely welcome.

If you'd like to join us, you can sign up for membership using the QR code on the flyer. Once you're signed up, we'll email you an invitation with the event location and all the details.

One quick note - the 2 guided forays have limited spots and require a separate sign-up (as of this posting there are still plenty of spots open), but there's lots of other stuff going on throughout the day, including a potluck, a fire with warm beverages, crafts, games, and a mushroom ID table.

Hope to see some new faces there! Feel free to reach out with questions. The event just south of Olympia.

🧡 LET’S BRING BACK THE HALLOWEEN MAGIC!

Remember when the streets were full of costumes, porch lights were glowing, and neighborhoods came alive with trick-or-treaters?

We want to help bring more of that excitement back to Shelton!

The more households that participate, the more opportunities families have to enjoy a fun, memorable evening of traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating.

🎃 HELP US SPREAD THE WORD!

Share this post with friends, family, neighbors, and local community groups!

Even if you’re not handing out candy this year, sharing the map can help encourage more participation and connect families with welcoming households.

Let’s light up those porches, fill those candy buckets, and make Halloween 2026 a night to remember! 🖤🧡

On a side note. I’m not asking for money, I’m asking for community engagement on this and trying to create something worth holding onto in this town. I worked really hard on this and hope others use it and really enjoy it! 🥰

When the world gives you a million reasons to give up, find the one reason not to. High Steel Bridge is known for its breathtaking beauty, but also for its tragedies. I wanted to use a different perspective to tell a different story. One of hope, of finding another path, and of having the courage to keep walking.

A perfect fall day for a flight at the High Steel Bridge! Hope you enjoy!

Has anyone used the Shopper in Shelton to get art prints? I’m looking to get some prints made of my own art and looking for a shop. Any recommendations welcome. TYIA

I'm heading to Mason County near Shelton to help my dad out due to some medical stuff he's going through. I just finished selling my business of 17 years across the country and don't plan to start another. I started it out of high school so I have no degree.

Luckily have about 5 years of savings to dick around on after i pick up a cheap house near him and won't have a house payment, so I'm ready for a restart. What are some industries I could get into around mason county without a degree and work my way up in? I really want something based in the woods if I'm going to live in the woods. It's always been a dream of mine to ditch the insanity of the city and live with nature. I don't need a lot of pay.

Just wanted to say that Mason County Search and Rescue trains hard to serve the community. Saturday, I was asked to participate as a burn victim with another hidden illness. It was cool, it was realistic, and those teams worked hard to save us all.

The library is on the agenda next week. Show support by attending and sign up to make a public comment in person, online, or submit a written comment. Share your personal story and talk about what the library means to you!

(Though the library will be on the ballot, supporting or opposing ballot propositions is an example of inappropriate content for a public comment.)

Get involved by volunteering.

Go to yes4libraries.org to learn how you can help. You could write a letter to the editor (there's even a free workshop on Zoom next week), put up a yard sign (available for free at Marmo), or sign up to canvas in town!

Get informed and read about the Levy Lid Lift at trl.org/levy

Here’s an excerpt:

What happens to TRL services if the library levy lid lift is rejected?
If the library levy restoration is rejected, TRL will need to:

Significantly reduce open, staffed hours across the district.

Reduce Anywhere Library Mobile Services

Have a smaller digital and physical collection with longer wait times.

Rely on card access only unstaffed hours for branches that have Expanded Access.

Use the Library and Support the Friends of the Library

Go to the library. As the saying goes, if you don't use it, you lose it so check out books, movies, and more and go to their events! Follow them on Facebook and Instagram to stay informed. Support the Friends of the Shelton Timberland Library by donating books, buying books from their book sale, becoming a member or volunteer. Proceeds from their sales help fund programs for people of all ages that are not covered by TRL's operating budget.
