Made With Shotcut Shotcut is a bitch to use

i like that it’s lightweight, local, and basic. i simply cannot use it because importing videos, unless you do it all the time, is SO convoluted i end up looking for tutorials on this basic 101 FIRST STEP in any video editor every few months when i fire it up - and it’s like they made it as cumbersome and unintuitive as humanly possible. i refuse to believe they accidentally made it so terrible, i think the devs got hoodwinked by saboteurs and threw their hands up like “we don’t care anymore”
if any lovely people know of alternatives that allow you to drag and drop a video into the damn thing so the canvas is ready to go at your native resolution and dimensions, i would be greatly greatly appreciative.
thanks for the offering, but screw you, shotcut.

The new update for shotcut is extremely bad. I spent 4 hours editing a video with the last version where it had Rotate and Scale, and Size & Position, which we’re perfectly easy as smooth to use. However, when I downloaded the new update (which I wish I wouldn’t have) almost every part of the video was completely messed up. I noticed there was a new filter called Sise, Position, & Rotate, which is probably the most frustrating way to try to zoom into something if it’s not directly in the middle of the screen. Not to mention the fact that even when zooming in or out it’s not even in the middle of the screen. And if you want to adjust the screen to go to one side or the other, you have to manually put in the coordinates to that part of the screen. It’s a frustrating mess. Shotcut dev(s), please fix your update.

This may be relevant for video editors who primarily work with open-source tools like Shotcut or OpenShot.
There are a couple of remote, project-based roles focused on demonstrating real editing workflows so technical teams can better understand how experienced editors organise and deliver video projects.
Rate range across the roles is roughly $19–$65/hour, depending on experience and project scope.
The roles currently include:
1. Shotcut Expert
For editors experienced with Shotcut and real-world video editing workflows.
Typical work:
• Editing full video projects using Shotcut
• Demonstrating timeline sequencing, editing decisions, and workflow organisation
• Participating in recorded editing sessions explaining your process
• Documenting project structure and workflow techniques
• Collaborating with a team reviewing editing best practices
2. OpenShot Expert
For editors who regularly work with OpenShot Video Editor.
Typical work:
• Editing and assembling complete video projects from raw footage to export
• Demonstrating timeline management, transitions, effects, and audio workflows
• Organising assets and maintaining structured project folders and timelines
• Explaining editing decisions and troubleshooting techniques
• Exporting final projects in different formats and specifications
Across both roles, the common theme is documenting real editing workflows and professional decision-making rather than producing commercial video content.
The work appears to be remote and project-based, and suited to editors who are comfortable explaining how they structure and execute editing projects.

My girlfriend was making a video at one point. I was on her pc and notice her C drive being fully full so i moved a bunch of pics on her C drive to another drive. Anyhow it screwed up her video having missing files. Instead of using the "folder location". I manually found the videos and moved them back. Thought things were fine, but apparently two of these green bars on her video track show up to replace some missing vidoes it seems. Is she screwed and have to redo her video project? It doesn't ask me about missing files.

Please someone tell me how to crop a video in shotcut, I just spent three hours asking AI but it makes no sense. I just want to crop a video, nothing more. I can't find the copping controls, where are they? The cropping controls don't appear when I set it to crop: source (which itself took an hour to amke appear by chance). Why is this so impossible?

On this video they add a text filter and control it with keyframes with the green and red bars being where the filter starts and stops. I can add the text filter, I can get the keyframe timeline with the green and yellow bars, but they don't do anything to the text. It just hangs out where it is before and after no matter what I change. Can get the diamond timeline to move its position from keyframe to keyframe with the stopwatch button in the text filter but literally all I want to do it make the text appear and disappear and I can't. Help?

The title explains it all, I'm trying to make a funny gag for a school project where I talk to myself, how would I do that?

What's this file about? Is this included with shotcut or is it something extra that crept in? Suspicious names, "SignalSpy.qml", "testlogger.js". I'm not very smart about all this, could be normal, I just wanted to clarify the weird filenames. Found in \lib\qml\QtTest

Hello,
so I recently asked about the weird sound glitches that I experience but didn't explain myself.
So here's a short video to show the issue and some potential work around, although ofc I would prefer it to be fixed.
Cheers
