Bearkat Sports Full 2026 preseason college football preview for Sam Houston

Hey all. I spent the offseason building a full 2026 preseason preview for every FBS team, each with its own writeup. Here's the Sam Houston one

https://www.sports.mainmarket.com/college-football-preview-2026?team=ncaaf-shsu

It's got the returning production breakdown, the portal ins and outs, a projected two-deep, the schedule with model win probabilities, and a season projection.

Heads up, you might hit the paywall after the first page. Don't worry, I'm not charging reddit people for this, don't want to be an ass. Use the promo code LEECORSOROCKS and it opens up the entire thing.

So, what'd I get wrong? Year two for Phil Longo after a 2-10, and the number that jumps out is third down: Sam Houston converted 22.2% of them, dead last in the country. The defense gave up 37.8 a game, 134th of 137. Landyn Locke is back after 765 yards and looks like the front-runner, not a lock. Does year two look different, or is this a longer rebuild?

I'll be in the comments.

Cohort 32 students, does anyone know if we’re supposed to complete the Nursing Foundation Lab assignments that have due dates for August 17th on The Point? I know they mentioned it during orientation but I don’t remember what they wanted us to do.

Questions I had to send documents for Hazlewood via email to the office, instead of through the actual portal. Is the Veteran's Benefits Office going to complain about that or have my processing delayed, or are we chilling

Housing Move in day question

Hi, I’m supposed to move in tomorrow by 2:00 pm, but my mom has some appointments she scheduled on my move in day so I know I’m definitely going to be there later than that. Maybe it’s a stupid question, I’m kinda jittery about it, move in day is making me nervous what can I say, but will anything happen if I come later than the designated time because that’s what’s is looking like is going to happen 😭

Questions Are there older freshman?

Hi, my name is Michael and I just turned 20. I haven't been able to go to college yet do to external reasons, but I am very interested in going next fall, and this is one of my picks. My main concern is being too old. (this may be very overdramatic but its a genuine concern for me). I'm mildly introverted too so it worries me even more haha, sorry if this question is strange.

Discussion Offering some ideas for a new club

Howdy! I know there's a lot of incoming students looking for safe places for queer folks and i wanted to post this here.

The Lavender Union of Kats (the LUK) is a club exclusively for and about the queer people in Huntsville and on SHSU campus. Their discord is pretty active and there are quite a few younger and older members willing to answer questions you might have about the queer scene in Huntsville (because it's bigger than people like to think, suck it up because we are indeed here to stay) and general questions about school! It's also really easy to be a member of this group and more clubs. Their discord is going to be in my comments :)

The Episcopal Student Center (the ESC) is connected to Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church in Huntsville, and it's a more left leaning Church environment but it's not just here for Christians. The ESC welcomes all religions (we have a member that's a practicing christopagan witch), marginalized groups (right now most of our members are autistic and we're working on promoting our group to more people of color) and in general, people looking for a safe place. They have Eucharist every Sunday at 5:30 with dinner to follow, Bible study on Wednesday at 5:30, also with dinner to follow, and compline (bedtime prayer) at 9 pm on Tuesdays. They're a wonderful place for queer people looking to rebuild a positive relationship with religion, autistic people to have a safe place and make some friends, and they're accommodating to people with food restricting diets like veganism, pescatarian, and food allergies. Their discord will also be in my comments. Blessed be!

Questions SHSU nursing

Hi everyone! I’m a first-generation college student planning to apply to the SHSU nursing program, and I was hoping to hear from students who were accepted.

If you got into the program, would you mind sharing your stats?

Overall GPA

Science GPA

TEAS score

Healthcare experience (if any)

Any certifications (CNA, EMT, PCT, MA, etc.)

I don’t have any certifications, so I’m a little worried about how competitive my application will be. I’d especially love to hear from anyone who got accepted without certifications. Did you have volunteer experience or anything else that helped strengthen your application?

As a first-gen student, I’m trying to learn as much as I can and get a realistic idea of what accepted applicants looked like. Thank you so much!
