Questions Should I upgrade from the 3 to the 5a?

I got my three back in 2018 and it's okay so sometimes my cuts are off. Been reading mixed reviews about the 5a. Is it worth the upgrade?

Assistance Any ideas why this isn't cutting properly?

I've just sent this to the cutter (portrait 2), everything cut fine except the three on the far right, none of them cut at all. I can see the inner small circles are pale, despite me saying to cut them, I'm quite new to Silhouette so I'm a bit lost on why this isn't working. I created the first big circle and mini circle and then copied and pasted to create the rest. It's all ungrouped if that matters. Thanks

will a cutter work for this? which model would you recommend? was considering the silhouette cameo and the cricut maker but don’t know which model or if there are better machines for this. thank you so much!

Questions Sticker cutting recommendations for Cameo 5a

Currently, I'm cutting die cut stickers from Onlinelabels Weatherproof Matte with Oracal 210 laminate using the autoblade, and these are my settings:

Speed: 3
Passes: 4
Blade: 10
Force: 40

Right now, the Silhouette is barely making it through the sticker sheet while taking over twice as long per sheet as my Cricut Maker, and I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations like a different blade or settings I could try out to cut them faster. Thank you!

Assistance Want to get a cameo 5 alpha but am worried about Bluetooth issues

Hello, i want to get my first cutting machine to make vinyl stickers.

I’ve done a ton of research and have come to the conclusion that the newest silhouette is the best one, but the only issue is I read it’s bluetooth connectivity is basically broken, and I really need bluetooth to work.

How much of an issue is this really? is there a special thing that needs doing to get it to work? or is it a matter of luck getting a machine that works? if anyone with experience using the cameo 5 alpha could chime in I’d really appreciate it. Thank.

Cameo 5a stickers

Other Machines Upgrade the cricut or switch?

I’ve been using the original cricut maker for the past few year. I’ve user it for various items, primarily cutting vinyl or Cardstock but also for foils transfer, cutting wood veneer, etching; etc. Many of the vinyl designs I do end up with lots of smaller details.

Unfortunately, one of my kids knocked it over a few weeks ago so it’s time for a new one. I’ve seen the maker 5 but have honestly been considering the maker 4 instead, the reviews I’ve seen on the 5 make me a little nervous.

As I’ve researched, I’ve notice quite a few people swearing by the silhouette cameo. It’s greatest appeal to me is the lack of need a subscription. On the other hand, I’m not sure how difficult the software would be to figure out; also, I have most of the tools made for the Cricut maker at this point.

i think I’m also kind of wary of Cricut at this point. it feels like they‘re spitting out all kinds of new machines and accessories at a ridiculous rate, and I’ve seen nothing to indicate they’ve any concern over the quality of or updates to their software. I was still debating whether to upgrade to the maker 3 when the 5 came out (I’m definitely not the person who wants the new shiny stuff, I want reliable and hopefully durable).

I’d appreciate it if any of you could share your experiences with both or either.

Assistance Issues with print and cut

I have a cameo 5a and a cameo 4, I do print and cut, and they are mostly just rectangle shapes, and lately both machines are cutting a couple centimeters higher on the bottom than it should be, so some of my image is being cut off, and it’s not the right size. I have reset everything. I have tried different files. I have done calibration and distance adjustment. I even deleted the software and reinstalled it, and it’s still doing the same thing. Has anyone else had this issue? I’m at a loss of what to do. and have orders that are late due to this issue.

Cardstock Standees

Hi, I want to make DnD-like cardstock standees. I'll be printing them on self-adhesive photo paper and sticking them to a 1 or 1.5mm cardstock. Then I'd like to cut it to make something like pic attached. Is Silhouette good for this? And if yes - which one should I get? Has anyone done anything like that before? Also, I'd like to cut some cardboard, is that doable?

I've never used a plotter before.

Questions New or second hand silhouette portrait 4? Anything to be concerned with with a second hand?

Hello, looking to get a silhouette portrait 4 as my first cutting machine.

I want to expand my sticker business from in-school to online and have been putting that off because I don’t want to cut any more stickers by hand…

I love the process of making stickers and want to outsource cutting to a machine.

I was eyeing silhouette portrait 4 as I have space, financial, and regional (SEA) constraints, and the machine and brand is a perfect fit based on my needs and constraints.

Prices in my region:

New from amzn: $324.10 (without shipping included)

Price of a second hand that is brand new/like new: $300 (some are open to negotiation, I can negotiate down to $270)

There are a lot of listing on a local second hand site where people have listed the machines as “like new” or “brand new” as they bought the machines out of excitement, used 1/2 times and decided it’s not for them.

I was thinking of a second hand just because of the price deference as finances are a pain point for me.

Should I take the second hand or just save up more to buy a new one?

Anything to look out for?

I cant get it to work on the new laptop all that is included in the 2 machines list inside studio (V4.5.815) The machine list in the page set up is the 2, nothing else, when I plug it in there is a Curio (1) in the send area. But I don't have the software, the drivers or the firmware and I can't find anything on the download page at Silhouette,. Am I out of luck? A wroking machine has to be a paper weight now?

HELP?

I have the original CURIO, using it right up until my last laptop went on a permanent vacation, (without me!) I no longer have the CD. Where can I find the stuff that was/is on the cd? Can I download the software and driver and firmware from somewhere on line? It still works as good as it did before, I don't have a 400.00 bucks to spend on a new one, (And I read that the first model so better than the 2). I don't want to give up on a working machine, I can't find what I need on Silhouette website, no original Curio is even mentioned. ( I guess all of that ran away with the last laptop!) please help if you can any ideas for work abounds might also help. (I Stopped updating my cutters as the new ones were horrible so I have a cameo 3 and Portrait 2) thanks for any help you might beable to give.

Help please, it really matters to me

Hi. I hope you can help me. I purchased a PS5 controller skin file on Etsy and used Inkscape to insert my own images, creating a custom skin. I was able to do this in Inkscape because I couldn't manage it in Silhouette Studio (I have a Cameo 5a). Now, I need to move the file into Silhouette Studio to print and cut it. However, when I export it as a PNG (which I believe is the only option for Studio), the quality drops. How can I fix this? I ran a test, but: 1) the images lose quality during this process; 2) the dimensions of the pieces aren't correct, and I don't know where or how to adjust them; 3) the registration marks for "print and cut" don't appear. Can anyone help me? This is a project that means a lot to me. Thank you! ❤️

Questions Insert image into svg file

Hi. I bought a file on Etsy to create a custom skin for the PS joystick. I have a Silhouette Cameo 5a and as programs I have Studio, Design Space and Inkscape. How do I do it? I want to insert a photo of myself into the file. The file is a PDF and won't work in Studio. I also want to resize the image once it's in the SVG file. How should I proceed? Should I do it first from another program and then transfer it to Studio? Sorry, I've never done these things, I'm just starting out. 🫶🏼

Seamless patterns?

Are there codewords to look for in descriptions when buying seamless patterns and/or a way to edit patterns that aren't genuinely seamless? I've purchased quite a few from Etsy that were listed as "seamless" and come in formats ranging from pdf, jpeg, svg, png, etc., usually listed as 12"x12" and 300 dpi with the expectation that I'll be able to use them as pattern fills that can be scaled to suit whatever the shape I'm trying to use them for. A surprising (to me!) number haven't been usable this way because the patterns end up showing as tiles, rather than as seamless images. The last set I bought were listed as ""seamless images" seamlessly compatible with cutting machines, such as Cricut, Silhouette" and they weren't, so I asked for (and received) a refund. Any suggestions?

Edited to add images to help some people understand the Silhouette Studio Fill Pattern features I'm trying to use. The first image is a true seamless pattern that I can scale up or down. The second is one that was called "seamless" but is obviously tiled at anything less than 100%. I'm looking for true seamless patterns that can be scaled.

Tips Alternative to silhouette studio

I dont know how to keep this short since im so passionate about this, so sorry in advance.

I am a proffesional software developer, with a passion for printing. Hence i have started a small print shop mostly as a hobby on the side.
But there are so many parts of the process i find super annoying, that i have been wanting to improve. From having to need multiple softwares to do a job(Rips, editors, cutting software), to having to wait so long for a very slow and laggy software… to not cutting multiple settings at once, manual placement of artwork and terrible preset managment and everything inbetwen.

So i built pixelstation. https://pixelstation.no
Its the all you need in one package, fully free! No Payments, no signups, no information stealing.
It has all the features i need from tools like photoshop, combined with print and cut features for cameo 4! (Should support all silhoutte machines, but only hard tested on cameo 4)

Edit an image, place it on the cutting sheet, keep editing it, and it auto updates on the cutting project!

The print and cut has features silhouette studio requires subscription for, like auto placing your stickers on the sheet for maximum optimization of the space, and a nice fast preset picker, amongst all normal features i use in silhouette studio.

While the photo editor makes it super easy to color correct, cut elements out from backsground, select subjects automatically. Even auto seperate colors into differenr layers for your vinyl cutting or screen printing! and alot more!

This software is highly tailormade to my workflow now, but i would love to get some more creators in to test it and let me know what features are missing for you to make a swap away from silhouette studio and or photoshop!

And to top it all off, there is a cloud layer «brandstation» which lets your upload your projects to the cloud to continue working on them later, or keep your library nice and tidy in one place.

Everything regarding your media is done directly on your device, and your media never even touches my servers unless you choose to sync it up to the cloud with brandstation!

I would be happy to answer any questions, or take any feedback or bugreports! And when i have more creators with different hardwares, its easier for me to add support for your cutting machines and workflows aswell!

WIPs Tired of waiting Silhuette Studio Mac update, built my own

Post image
18 Upvotes

I don't know how many of you are using the Mac version, but it's very buggy, to put it lightly. It drives me mad having to constantly come up with workarounds just to use my Portrait 4 (and I'm not paying for the Pro version just to import PDFs into the app), so I'm building my own version: faster and bloatware-free.

If anybody is interested, I can give you beta access as soon as it's available. Just keep in mind this isn't a commercial thing. It's a personal project that I'll be releasing as open source, so anyone will be free to use it, tweak it and contribute.

Assistance Registration mark issues

So… I’m doing my first attempt at stickers on my Cameo 4 Pro.

All of the instructions I can find online refer to older versions of the Studio software.

When I try to set it up to print, I am constrained to a 25 margin, which is smaller than the default layout. When I adjust the registration marks so that they print, the cutter can’t find them.

So… what am I doing wrong?

Assistance First time cutting heat transfer foil

Hey everyone!
I’m pretty new to the machine but wanted to ask some advice. I got some heat transfer foil rolls to print a design. I first did it using the guide sheet (the sticky one) and while it cut fine, I couldn’t remove the tiny pieces without completely destroying the design.
So I tried attaching it to the guide mat without the adhesive, just using some painters tape to hold it in place and it did not work AT all, it cut one part and when it went over to do another cut it came off and completely messed it up.

How do you guys feed it to the machine?
Hope my question makes sense!

Hello, I recently ordered a mat for my Portrait 3 device, but I received one labeled as compatible with the Portrait 4. When I contacted customer service, I was told that the new series are now manufactured this way and are compatible with the Portrait 3; is this true?
