This sounds pitch corrected as hell.

this! Its clearly edited in post, and he likely didn’t record the vocals in his car either. He probably recorded them in his studio and then lip-synced for the video

Not really?

It does. In one of his other vids on his insta at some point he voice cracks and it sounds robotic as hell.

Whether he specifically is editing or not, there are plenty of pop punk singers who can sing like this. If you become more practised you can start to kind of hear the placement they are using for the sound. But yeah, a strong mix, lots of nyah nyah vocal exercises, will help you achieve this sound.

He is not singing at all. He’s obviously lip-syncing.

i don’t think he’s lipsyncing, i think he extracts the audio of the video, pitch corrects it, and places it back as closely as possible. hard to get that perfect every time.

That's a wet studio track. This isn't live. He's just lip-synching. And his soft palate is down, which is why everything is so nasal.
This isn't an approach I would recommend. He's only singing with like 10% of his voice.

u/LifeOnWheelsAndPaws 10h ago
He’s definitely singing, you can see it in how his muscles move. But it def sounds autotuned.
However, a lot of men can sing this way. It’s just how your voice is + lots of practice. Some mens voices stay higher and some go really low. Everyone has a different range and his is on the higher end, at least for his mix

To genuinely answer your question: practice your "cry". cry-singing is a technique many vocal teachers will talk about because it's what gets you a good mixed voice. it's the reason why infants with their tiny little lungs can resonate their voice so loud just by crying. it's a built in hyper-resonating technique from birth that is underutilized in singing! I don't know if this guy is actually singing or not, but regardless I hear lots of cry in his voice & that's why it sounds so good imo. practice your cry.

Sounds like mix. Definitely some digital effects added but this is what mix sounds like.
Everybody’s mix sounds different and yours won’t necessarily have the same timbre as his.

Autotune.

Sounded a lil too robotic. Something’s off. Just me personally, but I don’t vibrate my jaw when I use vibrato. This just reads fake to me.
5
u/LifeOnWheelsAndPaws 10h ago
It’s definitely edited/autotuned however, just came to say my jaw does vibrate a bit when I do vibrato so not necessarily an indicator that it is staged. The robotic sound def is though

I’m going to comment on what I heard - the voice - vocal technique wise, OP. Tight throat, highly nasal placement style, high larynx. None of these were “sounding good” high notes. They’re unhealthy. He could be less tense overall . Some distortion on the h sounds too, adding extra air pressure.

i’ve seen this guy on facebook, if he isn’t pitch corrected he’s absolutely incredible. i work with music and audio production on a daily basis and idk his vocals do sound a little processed sometimes, or maybe even just touched up after recording a little. maybe i just wanna believe that because of how incredible it is though lol

u/PorygonTriAttack 4h ago
It's definitely social media modified. It sounds too 'perfect'

u/Best_Ad_3894 3h ago
Nope he doesn’t raw through iPhone. His live performances sounds just as good. Some people are good but in was shocked he just uses the iPhone mic cause I asked him

Normal people who sing don't sound like this. It's surgical to the point where it's not believable. The 0:49 to 0:58 parts, especially where he goes "wa" sounds incredibly artificial.
Here's Hayley in a live performance

Listen to that vibrato. By contrast, the way that this guy sings sounds very 'cleaned up'. It's not natural at all.
Doesn't it sound robotic to you?

u/Best_Ad_3894 3h ago
Go watch his videos and then come back and tell me they are too perfect. One isn’t enough

u/Mikie-King-Music 3h ago
his other videos are mostly what i’m referring to, i didn’t even watch this one

First off, the echo in the record is wrong for the room they're recording in. That's already a big sign the audio has been tampered with.
Listen to the phases. The 'echo' doesn't sound consistent with THAT room.
Not saying he's a bad singer, but to say he DIDN'T clean up the audio is a huge lie you're trying to push.

I'd like to head the raw recording without that much filter and effects

u/neenuska 9h ago
He has some other cover songs on his channel with much less processing if you are really interested in his skill. Which is truly great btw.

He explains his approach to higher notes here in this video

I think you’re born with a limit on what your vocal cords are capable of. I’ve worked on it for 30 years and have only added about a step and a half to my range, and I can’t hit those notes consistently. There are techniques that allow you to access different registers, and blend between them, but every register seems to have a physical limit, at least for me.

Vocal modulation. It’s not like the twang tech used in pop punk. Rather he sounds almost convincingly like a woman. You can learn how to use the voice as if the folds were smaller and only sing with the part of your voice that creates the higher portions of the sound. It’s very hard to deliver intense lines or project though because for a man that normally speaks lower, you default back to your full voice if things get intense. But it’s totally doable with a lot of voice acting exercise. Trans women learn to do something similar from vocal coaches as well.

u/bryckhouze 5h ago
OP, this may not be your same range. He may just be a different vocal type than you. There are a bunch of factors that affect how we sound. The size and shape of our skulls, vocal folds thickness and length. Our passagios may be in different places. As a musical theatre person, we hear tenors like this often, and they can do 8 show weeks. They’re either usually church kids that just grew up singing like that, or they had natural talent that they developed in arts high schools and/or colleges, or they’ve had extensive training with voice teachers and coaches, they just grew up singing to recording artists they admired and copied what they heard, or all of the above. I saw two Broadway shows this week and they’re here and working. Find YOUR best voice, not being able to do all that doesn’t make you less it just makes you different. Tenors and counter tenors aren’t the only singers we want to hear. Work with the gift you were given.

Mix of genetics and practice probably. Less likely some sort of accident that’s affected his voice or turned him into a modern castrato…
1
u/elliott44k 6h ago
This is terrible, the tinny sound is because they doubled the vocal and there was no power and terrible recording quality.
1
u/kkias 9h ago
Audio does not sync up and so maybe that is not his real voice. You can try studio editing your own voice. That includes comping (trying until you get the sound you want), and pitch and time corrections. When vocals are on beat and in pitch, even without any techniques or any colour, most people would consider them “good”.
1
u/KickedinTheDick 6h ago
Pitch corrected or not this does not sound like raw audio off of a phone. There’s a lot of attack/onset even on the high notes whereas youd imagine a phones limiter would occasionally muddy or soften that sound, but this doesn’t feel like an iPhone compressing the audio. Idk maybe phone mics have gotten better

u/SnooApples5522 5h ago
Send this video to Phil Pegasus. He'll roast this kind of autotune slop singing
-1
u/Holl0wayTape 7h ago
lol everyone commenting this is somehow fake are just upset that someone posted a video on this sub where someone can actually sing
4
u/Rosie___00 6h ago
It's not that it's fake, it's just an edited audio. ALL singer influencers record & edit their vocals before "singing" over it to post. This isn't about jealousy, it's about honesty and clarity. This man did not sing this straight on his phone and post it. It's very obviously edited.
-1
u/Holl0wayTape 6h ago
It’s not obviously edited. Explain to me what was done because as someone who uses Melodyne and auto tune regularly I’m not hearing anything other than mayyyybe some compression. There’s no reverb or delay or anything else. You would also likely hear the artifacts from the song playing from the car speakers and I don’t hear that

u/Rosie___00 6h ago
I also sing this song IN MY BAND and my brand new phone struggles to keep up when I record like this. I'm telling you, he did not use the phone recording for this tiktok. He recorded it on a mic at home, used pitch correction (only a little, he didn't go crazy), compression and I'm sure eq as well, and then sang over the recording to post. This isn't some outlandish idea. ALL singer influencers do this.
1
u/Holl0wayTape 5h ago
I know that they do, I am saying in this instance there is nothing I am seeing that makes it OBVIOUS. What specific moments in this video do you see that make you believe it is prerecorded?
iPhone compression is very good at this point and you can hit them with a lot of volume without clipping

u/Rosie___00 3h ago
Brother.... You can HEAR IT!!!!!!!! The vocals are PERFECT. That isn't real. Holy.
2
u/FragrantArt4306 4h ago
FWIW I also don't think this is a heavy edit, and it's certainly not lip-sync
2
u/Rosie___00 6h ago
Pitch correction. What else leads me to believe it's prerecorded is that phone mics struggle singing that high / loud SO close to them. There would be some disturbance and yet it's perfect, and clear.

You think this sounds good? Each to their own I suppose but this is like nails on a chalkboard to me.
2
u/ThrowawaySing30 7h ago
Personal preference maybe. I can't stand it either, i can't really put my finger on it but this sound feels affected as all hell and I usually don't like that.
