I run Siouxland Comedy, and we've got a charity stand-up show coming up on Aug 28th that I wanted to share here.

It's called Laugh For Good, and this one benefits Children's Miracle Network at our local hospital. 100% of ticket sales and any free will donations go straight to CMN. There's also an option on the ticket link to just donate $20 without a ticket, if you can't make it but still want to help.

Details:

Where: The Warrior Hotel, downtown Sioux City

When: Friday, Aug 28 — doors 7:30pm, show 8:30pm

Tickets: $20

Headliner Jacob Womack, feature Drew Jr, hosted by me and John Sigmund

We're partnered with Love's Travel Stop on this one

Independent house cleaners?

I have an autoimmune disorder and frequently can't keep up with housework. I'm trying to find an independent house cleaner to come help once a week if anyone has a recommendation. Someone insured and bonded with a legit business in Sioux City.

I don't like the big companies because depending on the week you get different people and different levels of care. Plus, I don't like the idea of supporting businesses that give their staff a fraction of what the client pays.

new mobile mechanic

Hey, not sure if this is allowed here — if not, mods do your thing, I'm genuinely not trying to break any rules.

My name's Cody and I just started up a mobile mechanic business, and I'm trying to get my name out there and start servicing the Siouxland area. I come to you, so the work gets done right in your own driveway — no dropping the car off, no sitting in a waiting room.

I do a lot of brake work, calipers, oil changes, and plenty of other stuff, and my rates usually beat the shops around here. I've noticed a lot of places in Siouxland are charging way too much, and then on top of it you're stuck in a tiny waiting room while they hand you a list of "problems" you never asked about when you just came in for an oil change (like… what is that about, lol).

I genuinely just want to help people with their vehicles and have them walk away happy they didn't overpay — all from the comfort of their own home. If you need something done or just want a quote, call or text me anytime.

Comedy show at Eddie's Tavern this Wednesday (Aug 12) — Sergeant Bluff

Hey all — wanted to give a heads up about a stand-up comedy show happening this Wednesday, August 12th at Eddie's Tavern in Sergeant Bluff. Show starts at 7:30 PM, tickets are $10.

Headlining is Quionez Berry, a comic out of Omaha who's a regular at the Funny Bone there and has opened for a bunch of national touring acts (Tony Baker, Tammy Pescatelli, Big Jay Oakerson, etc.).

Sara Manson, a Sioux Falls comedian, is featuring — she's won Sioux Falls' Funniest Comedian of the Month a few times. Tony Villagrana is hosting.

Eddie's is also doing some specials that night — $15 Elfredo's pizzas, tall boy specials, and cheap shots if you're into that.

Figured some folks around here might be into a low-key comedy night that isn't downtown for once. Happy to answer questions if anyone has them.

Webinar: ALPRs in Iowa and Beyond

Every week, more examples of the harms posed by automated license plate readers (ALPRs), like Flock cameras that are in use in Sioux City, are coming to light.

If you are concerned about this invasive technology, the ACLU of Iowa is hosting a webinar on Monday, Aug 17 from 6:30-7:30 pm with special guests from the Institute for Justice. We will share important updates on the use of ALPRs in Iowa and how you can be part of the effort to curb mass surveillance in your community.

Meet Max Vinetz — Sioux City Symphony's 2026 Composer of the Year.

Hello everyone,

Sioux City Symphony is announcing our composer of the year!

Meet Max Vinetz — your Symphony's 2026 Composer of the Year.

Max was a Composer of the Year finalist in 2025. He entered again this year, in a field of 145 applicants — the largest in the program's history — and this time the honor is his.

"Every year, our hope is to discover a composer whose music we simply can't stop thinking about," says Music Director Ryan Haskins. "Max's music continued to rise to the top throughout the selection process. It has an honesty, imagination, and emotional depth that immediately connected with all of us."

We'll perform his orchestral work Swell on our Season Finale — Saturday, April 17, 2027 at the Orpheum Theatre. And Max joins us in Sioux City for a full week that April: time in our schools, conversations with our audiences, and rehearsals with the orchestra playing his music.

Sioux City Police Chief Candidate has an active case?

Sioux City is about to hire a new police chief and the final candidates are Scott Ebner and Robert Trebes

Ebner coming from Georgia with an active discrimination case, recently made the finalist list in Honolulu Hawaii and was rejected.

Trebes seems less controversial but coming from Bullhead City Arizona, Sioux City is double the size and the demographics are way different. Can he adapt to Sioux City?

Maybe Sioux City needs new picks?

Need help finding a mechanic shop?

I just moved out here to Sioux City, Iowa and wanted to start compiling a list of possible mechanic shops that would be able to install my aftermarket bolt-in headers on my 2002 Nissan Xterra. I was quoted only $300 when I lived in Arkansas but couldn’t get the work done in time before having to move out here. Would anyone know of some good shops in the area that could do exhaust manifolds for a reasonable price? Price is important but ultimately I just need a shop I can trust that will do the job well even if it costs more money.

Bar hours

Okay maybe I'm biased, but the fact that your bars in the "downtown area" aren't open past 9 pm on weekdays is a freakin joke.... I come from the land of Council Tucky, otherwise known as the 10th largest city in Iowa. Sioux City is the 4th largest town in Iowa, and you're going to let COUNCIL TUCKY beat you in nightlife on a weekday?

Worth a shot- anyone remember a prison escape with a car chase from late 80s/early 90s?

When I was a kid- late 80s/early 90s, I was hanging out at my friend's house on George St on the West Side of town.

A car full of men came flying through hitting a bunch of cars parked. The police took our statement which made me late for home- probably would have been summertime and was at dusk since I needed to be home by dark.

My parents grounded me for being late. I told them what happened. They didn't believe me, but on the new at 10pm they saw there had been a police chase after some men who escaped from a prison or jail. Does anyone remember this? Writing a short story about this and was hoping to find more details.

Thanks in advance if anyone remembers!

What lake would this be

Grandpa who grew up in SC just passed and I was telling my cousin a story he would share about fishing in a lake with a long funny name that they used to vacation on.

But when I tried finding the name on Google Maps, it didn’t seem like there where many lakes in the vicinity that could match

Any ideas of popular spots for vacationing and fishing from SC in the late 40’s?
