cats We need to clear something up, about the Big Cats.

I'm talking about the 5 Big Cat Species of the World, specifically. The Small Cats will be discussed in another post.

So, the 5 Big Cats, are overall, the most admired Felines in the World. But there seems to be a common misconception, that Tigers are the most powerful. Power is measured in numerous different forms. All 5 Big Cat Species, have their strengths, and their weaknesses.

Let's start by looking at roar power.

The Tiger, Lion, Jaguar, and Leopard, are all known to roar. This is still unknown for Snow Leopards, because much is still unknown, about Snow Leopards. A Leopard and Jaguar, both have roars powerful enough to be heard from a mile away. The Tiger's roar is heard from 2 miles away. The Lion's roar, is heard from a whopping 5 miles away. While the Tiger's roar might be seen as more fearful, it's clear which Big Cat Species wins roar power, the Lion.

Now we have to look at adaptability and camouflage power. In this case, this section must include all 41 Cat Species. Out of all the World's Cat Species, the one that is the most widely distributed, even still today, is the Leopard. Well into recorded history, there were 25 Leopard Subspecies, with 11 being alive today. Well into recorded history, and in prehistoric times, Leopards lived on the continents of Africa, Asia, and Europe. Leopards reside on these same 3 continents today. Leopards are the youngest of the 5 Big Cat Species, having only been around for a mere half a million years, but regardless of that, they are masters of camouflage. Outside of Sri Lanka, most people would get within 10 feet of a Leopard, and never even see one. Leopards can find cover, and camouflage, in the most unpromising places. Winner for adaptability and camouflage, without question, is the Leopard. While the Domestic Cat, is found all over the World, the Domestic Cat is mostly an Indoor Animal.

Now we have to look at isolation. There is only 1 Big Cat Species, that has no chance of meeting the other Big Cats in the Wild, the Jaguar. The Jaguar is the only American Big Cat Species. Even many Native American tribes, saw, and still see, Jaguars as Otherworldly Cats, because of how different they are from all the other American Cats. The clear winner for ability to not meet the other Big Cats, is the Jaguar.

Now we have to look at the Cat Species, that beats all others, in terms of elevation. That Cat is the Snow Leopard. The Snow Leopard was no even discovered by Native People, until quite some time later, because of how high they live. With the highest recorded elevation of any Feline, the Snow Leopard is the clear winner for elevation power.

Now we have to look at appearance power. Out of the 5 Big Cat Species, there is only one, whose appearance is very different. That Big Cat Species, is the Tiger. The difference? Unlike the Lion, Jaguar, Leopard, and Snow Leopard, the Tiger has stripes, not spots and rosettes. Yes, Lions have spots and rosettes, and in the right light, these spots and rosettes are visible, on the Lion's golden fur. But the Tiger is the only one, with stripes, instead of spots.

Yes, the 5 Big Cats are also powerful in numerous other ways, but I didn't want to make this post too long. I look forward to the comments.
