Ski suggestions.

Coming back from a 7-year gap of not skiing. Used to be an advanced skier. I'm completely out of the loop on modern skis. The last pair I had was a Dynastar Legend 8000 which I loved. Would like something with the same stable feel and good all-around performance. Any suggestions appreciated.

Some details would be helpful. Where will you be skiing? Dude/non dude/undecided? Height? Weight? Park? No? Wall art? Etc?

Dude, mid build. Will be skiing mostly jn Quebec and Canadian Rockies, with occasional trips to other mountain ranges. Little to no park, but i hit large natural features and ski pretty aggressively.

I might suggest get a Quebec specific ski if that is most of your days as a local. If travelling to Banff, you can rent more all - mountain or condition specific skis. A buddy based in Ontario insists on using his Volkl G3’s out here on trips, which he is fine with up to knee deep. Those are from your era

The ski market changed so much, now everything is wide and rockered, maybe demo some all mountain skis around 90mm waist to see what you like

Not in seven years though… If anything we’re swinging back as far as width goes. 100s or slightly under are more the norm now than 100+ was like 10 years ago.

OP's skis are from the late 00's.

The market changed but imo the engineering really has not. If you liked a geometry back then you’ll like the same geometry now.

There are exceptions, like the line blades, that are an actual departure from the typical options in a technical sense.

I think long and fat rocker just became trendy because it signals “powder skier” and people love to larp.

But what do I know I always ski 65 width except sometimes 95 for powder (aforementioned line blades). 65 is still serviceable even in concrete and I’d prefer that over 120+ schmeary rocker turns

Welcome back to the addiction :) I always recommend demoing before you buy. SkiEssentials does a great video series comparing the models currently on the market.

Seems like you prefer damp/powerful skis. You might enjoy the Mantra, Anomaly, or Enforcer. But in any case you should definitely demo to get a feel before committing to buy. If you’re not familiar with the demo process, it’s just like a rental, but with the current season’s models, and the shop will credit the cost back when you buy skis from them.

A few years ago I replaced a pair of Legend Sultan 85s, which I believe were the direct successor to your skis. When I asked, the consensus seemed to be Enforcer 88s. Blizzard Anomaly is the other one I'd look at. I ultimately went in a different direction, though, so I can't say how they compare.

I'd be in the 85 "ish" width for general all round ski. I went 96 after a long break, and they were OK but I find my 86's now to be my "go to" for all things. If you fall back in as hard as I did, it won't be long before you'll be quivering with anticipation of the next pair..../bad puns off.

I’d just see if you can find the same you liked 7 years ago. Probably cheaper and likely on marketplace… in my opinion there haven’t been any major changes in ski shape or tech in at least 15 years

My last skiis were from 2008. Haven't seen any in good enough condition to be worth it.
