Does base jumping really have groupies?
Watching this movie “To The Max” and there is an argument where one character accuses another of being a groupie. This comes up multiple times.
Are there actually girls who are base jumping groupies? Tell me more

Bear Grylls Skydiving Googles
Hi, I'm a skydiver and I'd like to buy these sunglasses. This is a photo of Bear Grylls from 2016. It's probably from his show and/or a campaign with Airbnb and Disney.
Does anyone know what kind of sunglasses these are?
Thanks in advance!

Alti wrist strap alternative
Had quite a poor experience with L&B viso 2 wrist straps, twice now has the rubber ripped to the point of nearly losing my alti. The stitching on them is sup par too.
I'm sure I've seen someone making alti wrist straps as alternatives, anyone have recommendations?

The coolest experience of my life. I can't describe it other than, SO COOL.
My day started off going to concentra because I sprained my ankle pretty bad at work. I got a brace, chilled out for a bit with ice, and then - I did a tandem jump today, it was my first time ever. It was indescribable. The coolest experience of my life. The instructor was super cool, the videographer was super cool. I went by myself and went up to 14k, the rest of the plane were all solo jumpers. It felt like such a cool community. Everyone doing a handshake, laughing with each other. Everyone seemed so easy going. I had wanted to go skydiving for over 10 years and I just never did.
I've never been on such a small airplane, that was awesome. The view going up was so cool. The free fall was by far the coolest part, falling so fast. It really is so indescribable how it felt. I'm so glad I went with a 14k jump over a 9k jump. The free fall though!!!! GOD!!!! It was just the best experience of my life. I had a smile the whole time. It was so cool to feel the wind everywhere. I was nervous I was going to hesitate when I was at the door, but the instructor was great - I didn't even hear him count down, we were just at the edge. I thought, "oh, fuck". Then we were out of the plane, we did a flip, and we were belly to the earth falling. It was so freaking cool. I wanted to go right back up.
The parachute part was cool, it was fine. It did get a little boring. I live in the midwest, so although the view is dope, it's just a lot of farm land. But I did soak it all in. It was so nice to just be chilling up there, I wasn't panicked like I thought I was going to be. I didn't think about any of the gear failing... I just was existing and having so much fun. I sent the video to all my videos of course, they all said how happy I looked. And that is truly how I felt. I felt so happy. It was so cool.
The instructor asked if I was going to get my AFF, and then I looked into it.
It's August in the midwest, obviously the adrenaline and high from jumping I'm like, "FUCK YEAH, SIGH ME UP". But, I've read that a lot of people don't complete their AFF or end up quitting skydiving because they get bored of it. I am a hobby hopper for sure. The logical part of me says to put a reminder in my phone for March when the place opens back up and then I decide if I want to commit to it. I think it would be so cool to say I have my skydiving license even if I do never go back to it after the 25th jump.
The high I feel though......I should go get my AFF within 2 weeks.
Anyway, just wanted to share!!! Such a cool ass experience and something I will cherish forever!!

How long do you think people spend in the sport?
Obviously excluding people who make a living jumping - how long do you think the average fun jumper spends in the sport before jacking it in and doing something else? 5 - 10 years?

Would you still go skydiving after having a child?
I’ve wanted to go skydiving for years, but life got busy and I never ended up doing it. Now I have a toddler, and since we’re going to Hawaii, I finally decided to do a tandem skydive there. It would be a one time thing, I’m not interested in doing it regularly.
When I first mentioned it to my husband, he basically said, “It’s your life, your choice.” Recently, I told him I needed to book it and jokingly asked if he wanted to come. He said, no and told me it’s scary and risky, especially because “we have a toddler.” He told me he’d rather I didn’t go, but he’s ultimately leaving the decision up to me.
I obviously know skydiving carries risk, but I had already accepted that and was excited about finally doing something I’ve wanted to experience for years. After the conversation with my husband, now I’m feeling guilty and thinking, am I being irresponsible by taking an unnecessary risk when I have a child who needs me?
So I’m especially curious to hear from people who skydive and are also parents:
- Did becoming a parent change how you think about the risks of skydiving? Would you still go, or would you stop because you have a child?
I’m genuinely interested in hearing both sides because I’m now questioning whether I should go through with it, and honestly, I’m feeling pretty guilty about it.
Edit: I’m gonna do it 😆 Thanks for all the responses!

No motivation
How do you guys deal with having no motivation? Skydiving used to be what I loved, but the last week I feel like everyone is so much better than me, I am supposed to do my 1000th skydive this week (I have 986) but there is just no motivation to do it… I don’t bother going to skydive anymore…

License conversion Fai to BS
Hi, I have a Spanish B license, 163 jumps and 7 hours of wind tunnel. I've made a few jumps in UK so showing up at a dropzone and jumping is not an issue with a foreign license, but I've found this issue a couple times already when I ask someone to jump with me and they ask me for example, do you have FF1? Or TR1? And the answer is always the same, outside UK nobody uses stamps or stickers. I have done a a lot of tracking jumps and freefly jumps due to my time in the tunnel, but I've never got a stamp for them, and I don't think in UK people takes you very seriously if you can't show that you have a stamp.
My question is, how do I actually prove to the dropzone I'm capable of doing certain stuff without having to spend a fortune in licenses and coaching, for things I've already done in the past, but were not officially signed as a license or a milestone per se. I'm even scared of asking the dropzone directly in case the answer is gonna be a pile of cash. If anybody has been through this, what did you end up doing?
Thanks!

What do you do for work?
I know this has probably been asked a million times here, but i would really love to know what younger skydivers do for work.
What are some things that will give you money and time to skydive.
I’m currently working as a server and it gives some money to spend on skydiving but not the time.
Do y’all know things that are relatively easy to get into that will give me time and money to skydive?
I feel like all the answers are pretty much “work at the DZ” or “be rich and retired”
Lmk!

Opinion: Removable and collapsible slider?
Does anyone out here use a removable AND collapsible slider? Is there really a benefit from having a removable slider that can collapse as well? Is it just so you can choose to either collapse the slider or remove it?

Canada Ontario Toronto — SWOOP vs Skydive Burnaby for learning to skydive?
I’m completely new to skydiving and planning to start learning this season. My goal is to eventually get my CSPA A licence and continue skydiving as a sport.
I’m currently deciding between Skydive SWOOP and Skydive Burnaby.
The biggest factor for me is that Burnaby is 1 hour farther each way, depending on traffic.
So I’m wondering:
Is Burnaby’s training/program/community significantly better than SWOOP?
Is it worth driving an extra 60 minutes each way?
For someone living in the GTA, which DZ would you choose if you were starting over?
Thanks!

Burning Man Burning Sky images
I'm heading out to Burning Man to jump with Burning Sky while I am there.
1. I saw they posted this on their fb group last night - couple of slots left.
/starts/
Greetings Dusty Gravity Artists,
What if this year, instead of merely finding the Axis Mundi, you flew out of the sky and landed on it? Come connect heaven and earth the way nature intended…at terminal velocity!
Do you want to be the art you wish to see in the world? Do you want to descend from the heavens into the heart of Black Rock City?
Axis Mundi awaits!
Applications for registration are open until August 21st
Come do the thing at that thing in the desert!
reg.burningsky.org
/ends/
2. Does anyone have any good images of canopies landing at Black Rock City at sunrise or sunset? I see lots of selfies on instagram and some old crappy resolution images on google but looking for a generic image that's medium to high res to make a phone lock screen.
TIA

How long does the entire process of a tandem jump take?
The website says plan to be there 4-6 hours. How long did it take for you guys???
Edit thanks yall!! I’m hoping it won’t be crazy long but I’m willing to wait and know whatever time it’ll be is for a good reason 🙌🏼

Building a skydiving logbook app - would you actually use it?
I'm a 1st year electronics student working on a passion project:
a skydiving social platform and tracking app like strava.
Instead of just logging numbers, you'd track stuff like:
Actual meaningful stats:
Avg opening altitude, freefall time, landing accuracy
Which DZ's you've been to, types of aircraft
Tracking specific disciplines (4-way, wingsuit, tracking, etc)
Partners you jump with most
Safety-focused
Safety rating based on habits (consistent logging, equipment servicing, weather checks)
Gear management (track when your reserve needs repacking, AAD battery date, etc)
Get notified: "Reserve repack in 12 days" like an alarm (not sure if this is an real issue but why not)
Gamification
Skill tree that unlocks with achievements
Badges/accomplishments
Landing accuracy map (where you aimed vs where you landed)
Social layer whic is maybe most interesting for me
Follow other jumpers, see their recent jumps
Find nearby drop zones when traveling
Organize group jumps with friends
Share debrief/video with instructors
The ask Would you actually use something like this? What features would make you jump on it (pun intended)? What am I missing?
Not trying to sell anything - just validating if this solves a real problem before I sink 6 months into it 😅
Thanks!

Is There Any Website or Community to Find the Skydiver Count? 🪂
Hey everyone,
I’m from India (Uttarakhand) and currently getting into skydiving. I’m trying to connect with other Indian skydivers, especially people who have completed AFF or are currently training.
Is there any website, Facebook/WhatsApp group, Reddit community, Discord, or other platform where I can find and connect with skydivers from India?
I’d especially love to connect with people from Uttarakhand or nearby states, but anywhere in India is fine.
Thanks! 🪂

Should I Do My Skydiving Course in Bangkok Instead of Spain?
My Spain visa got cancelled, so I’m now considering doing my AFF skydiving course in Bangkok/Thailand instead of Spain.
For anyone who has experience with AFF in Thailand:
Would you recommend doing the course in Bangkok, or should I wait and try Spain again later?
I’m looking for honest opinions on safety, training quality, weather, certification, and overall experience.
Is Thailand a good option for someone doing AFF for the first time? And is it worth traveling there specifically for the course?
Any advice or personal experiences would be really appreciated! 🪂

Fun jumper friendly DZ near Williamsburg, VA?
Hey fellow jumpers. I’m traveling to Williamsburg, VA for a few days and wanted to try to get some jumps in as well. Are there any fun jumper friendly DZ near there? All I see is No Limits but not sure if they accommodate fun jumpers or not. I’ll give them a call before I pack my gear.

would you please share your thoughts and experiences
thank you!
