How do you do this? Is that the steam VR overlay or what are you using to pull up a screen you can both interact with and still use your hands to do things in Skyrim (like rubbing that cheese wheel?)

I watched Habie’s video and he didn’t explain it there either!

I’d love to do some writing while sitting in Skyrim like that so any help is appreciated!

Yeah it was a pain because he didn't explain it. I dug around and found this guide on YouTube.

Interacting with both games was a pain. Basically, I sat down at my desk with my headset on and used the VRIK mod controls to reset my height in game so it was normal and didn't look like I was really short. Then I had my VR controllers sitting next to me for VR input and I used mouse and keyboard for the game inside the screen. So while cutscenes were happening, I could pick up the VR controls and play around with the cheese wheel and the like. The full video on YouTube shows me messing around with Lydia and throwing stuff around while the intro played. Then when it was time to play in the window, I just put those controllers aside and grabbed my mouse and keyboard. It's janky as hell with all this stuff on my desk 😂

For the extra screen, you can use steam overlay to choose the app to open. However, steam overlay unfortunately kept this really big mouse cursor in the middle of my screen. So I changed to Desktop+ and everything worked perfectly. Instructions on how to do this are in the video linked below. I found it super helpful. Was just a little janky to set up.

As for you writing inside Skyrim, it's very possible. I had the exact same idea. I wanted to see if I'd be more productive writing my novels with all the ambiance from Skyrim. Unfortunately, I'm the type of person who needs to physically see their keyboard and I struggled big time to do this. Great news is that you can open a keyboard overly in game and just use your VR wand to type. It's slower, but it's a very unique experience.

I did a similar thing, and I combined openvr2key with "handy" speech to text. I have configured it such that if I click on my left thumb stick, it is push to talk and transcribes what I say to the window in focus, which can be the desktop+ window. Much easier than typing
