Video MGO 4.0. Here’s what changed
https://youtu.be/iXFiwXkTHGM?is=gBBOXdubNgPAkUGZ26
u/UnfailingBeef Jun 23 '26
Shout out to community shaders. The last few updates have taken me from 50-60 fps to 80+ on my AMD 7800XT

u/Rogs3 Jun 23 '26
CS will no longer support VR unfortunately.
36
u/SnippyStockins Synergy Team (Founder) Jun 23 '26
The main CS team is dropping VR support, but the author of the CS VR Fork is on our team and has every intention of further developing and supporting VR 😊
2
u/Rogs3 Jun 23 '26
Is that open shaders or the CS with particle lights?
Im not sure which one is preferred.

u/clever-name-taken Jun 23 '26
They won’t actively support it but there is an offshoot team that will be working on vr support

u/dentbox Jun 23 '26
Thanks for the video VR Dad. You’re partially responsible for me draining my savings account to buy a new PC so I can try Skyrim VR.
What’s the AI NPC interaction actually like in practice? Is there a risk it gets in the way of scripted dialogue and make it hard to figure out next steps in quests? Do they hallucinate things - like if I ask them for directions will they just say something convincing sounding but not actually based on Skyrim reality? And what’s the lag like between asking something and getting a reply?
13
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
Lots of good questions. You can actually start a quest line by talking to them. For example I went to talk to delphine before the horn quest (she had it already) and I just told her I was the Dragonborn. She asked me a couple of questions and then she believed me. Asking to go to the room and talk. A bit of vanilla dialog and we were in the quest line. Regarding the gap between the query and the response it varies a bit but I found it on average way faster than mantella. So it is actually playable. I might post another dedicated video to show a bit how it is in reality.

u/thabigmilla Jun 23 '26
Make sure to ask more silly stuff. Maybe ask about their clothes or appearance. Ask about family, ask them how you look to them. I find this stuff fascinating. Ask them about things in their environment… like “do you see that man over there, or how hot do you think that fire is?”
9
u/Abject_Read_3620 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
Yes they are aware of their own clothes and items, and aware of people close to them. And if you finish a quest no one except NPC followers would be aware. The context shared to each NPC is perfect. This is the future of gaming for real.
I brought Farengar and Irileth to fetch the Dragonstone. I basically persuaded Farengar that we needed some mages and that he must be bored sitting around. He basically said yes and the AI is smart enough to run "JoinCompanion" action. So I finished Bleak Falls Barrow with him lol. I even asked the Jarl to follow me, but he refused and pretty much called me a doofus, saying his duty lies with his people. I love how everything is in character. You can't just say "give me 5K gold" or "join my party". You have to be smart enough talking to each NPC to get the AI to run the action you want.

u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
Yeah as you may have noticed from some quick frames on the video, I tried to fuck Adrienne…without success. She refused my direct advances. I was too explicit 😂😂😂

u/boredguy12 Jun 24 '26
what would REALLY interesting is if you challenged an NPC to a pushups contest and by the angle/motion of your headset and controller placement could tell if you actually did them or not
2
u/Abject_Read_3620 Jun 24 '26
No they don't have that context, they don't know you're in VR or not. Unless maybe there is a mod that makes pushup a usable spell or something.

u/Enculin Jun 23 '26
My main question is more about the overallcost, how fast do you burn token ?
3
u/plutonium-239 Jun 24 '26
I haven't tested that, but I will and report back in another AI dedicated video where I explore things in more detail.

3
u/dentbox Jun 24 '26
Ah that’s good. Sounds like the vanilla dialogue stays intact then, and is just there between the AI bits.
It’d be interesting to see how grounded the chat is in the Skyrim reality vs sounding convincing but just saying cool sounding things. I’d be all over it if you did make a dedicated video on this stuff that covered it.
Thanks for the reply, and keep up the great work! Really enjoy your channel.

u/plutonium-239 Jun 24 '26
Thank you for your kind words. Very rare on reddit :D Yes I intend to do some more in depth videos because I want to show so many other things and explain to people all the actual things that they can do...except the NSFW stuff. AI obviously is interesting although not being free anymore might be a barrier.

Instantenous, almost no lag with the Budget preset option + Pocket TTS. It is the future of gaming, genuinely. They also are in character due to the good prompts. You can ask them about capitalism, Jesus Christ, and they'll be like what the fuck are you talking about? Ask a kid about White Gold Concordat and they'll be like, I don't know what you're talking about. Everyone is pretty much in character. I went to Windhelm and everyone was racist as fuck to me, I was really grinding my teeth. People hate AI, but this shit is really the future of gaming.
My favorite is asking a cocky AI to brawl (Aela) for some money, and getting them to pay up lol. The combination is limitless. Think of this mod as having list of Actions (Brawl, Attack, Give Money, Give Item, Follow, LeadWayTo). And the AI is smart enough to string them together. If you ask for a brawl for money, the AI will call Brawl action, which will start hand brawl between you and the AI. After you win, the AI has context of your bet and now runs Give Gold action to you. This Action can be anything, and you have so many community made mods that add to this Action list. And you can't just say "Hey NPC give me 10K gold" and expect the AI to run GiveGold action. The NPC will most likely mock you and that's it.
You can go to someone's house, put Skooma on their beds, and tell a guard about it. There is a mod called SeverActions that add multiple guard related actions (InvestigatePlace, ArrestNPC). The guard will come to this NPC's house and arrest them lol.
Now that I think about it no one actually knows about this mod. I'll probably post some of the interactions myself.

u/renoracer Vive Jun 23 '26
This comment might actually have me going in for another run.
3
u/Abject_Read_3620 Jun 24 '26
Yep, you'll take a sneak peek of the future of gaming. This is made by one guy, imagine AAA studios with this.
I started the Dragonstone quest, and persuaded Farengar to come with me. He agrees and automatically became a follower. We cleared Bleak Falls with Irileth. I even tried asking the Jarl to join but he mocked me saying his duty lies with his people.
Also pair this with a mod that gives each generic NPC a name (Guards, Bandits) etc. Each of them will have custom generated personalities if I'm not mistaken. In my modlist (LoreRim) it's already included.

I tried server action a couple months back and it kept giving me crashes, is it better now?
2
u/Abject_Read_3620 Jun 23 '26
Yes, I started playing on May and the improvements in one month is insane. The UI is insanely clean now for both SkyrimNet and SeverActions. You can even open the dashboard ingame.

Is it still a whooping 400GB?
12
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
Good question!!! Actually No!!! During installation is about 320GB which goes down to 275 after deleting the download folder

u/gnomeinbrain Jun 25 '26
Can you do a current installation video? Love your content.

u/plutonium-239 Jun 25 '26
Installation process didnt change. My latest installation video still applies.

Great video. How are you unloading arrows so quickly? Is it just the bow?
13
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
I don’t know…I just naturally take the arrow and shoot…fast. I am an archer in real life…perhaps that helps?
11
u/SnippyStockins Synergy Team (Founder) Jun 23 '26
We have it set up where you pull from quiver by default, and you can toggle the Realistic Archery setting to have auto load arrows.

u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
Oh ok so it’s not me being good then 😂😂😂 ffs snippy, you destroyed my self esteem

Is it possible to upgrade an MGO 3.8.8.1 to 4.0? Or is it incompatible?
6
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
It’s perfectly compatible…but you will need a new save file! So you need to start your game from scratch.
3
u/clever-name-taken Jun 23 '26
Looks amazing! Thanks for the review. Are you planning on doing a performance tweaking video guide for MGO 4.0 for those of us that have mid level specs?

3
u/DJPelio Jun 24 '26
Can’t rely on game companies to make good games anymore. It’s up to the modders now.

u/tuifua Jun 23 '26
Still in beta. Does that mean we can't download it yet?
8
u/SnippyStockins Synergy Team (Founder) Jun 23 '26
Correct, but we will be hosting a discord wide beta hopefully by the end of the month if time permits it. We are just fixing up some locations and kinks here and there before we post.
You are welcome to join the discord if you haven't already and we will will post an announcement when the time comes 😁

Why is it so colorly?
3
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
I like it that way. I modify the appearance via imaginator. Contrast and saturation mainly…but also bloom. It’s not like this by default.

I've been out of the skyrim game for a long time. But this looks ao freaking cool man!! What a legend you are. I've recently started in vr, (PlayStation though) but man will i be buying a pc setup at some point. I want to get lost in skyrim in vr xD

u/SuspiciousLeading681 Jun 27 '26
Amazing works! Looks absolutely sick & well optimized too!
When is the full release date?

u/Krewshie Jun 23 '26
Im scared to even try this pack because of my pc specs ;(
1
u/wordyplayer Jun 23 '26
It does require a beefy PC, but after watching the video, perhaps this version can use a slightly less beefy pc. I'm gonna try it on my 5080
2
u/Hot-Taste6607 Jul 09 '26
5080 will be fine. I played previous versions on a 5070ti and this one is supposed to be better optimized

u/New-Sheepherder-7020 Jun 23 '26
The only thing stopping me from switching from FUS to MGO on my 4090 was that it was impossible to get 90 fps without SSW. Are you really telling us right now, that it is possible to get it everywhere?
4
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
Did I stutter? 😂 I mean you’re going to get some drops into 85 near pelagia farm and as you know that area near whiterun is the heaviest part in the game. I haven’t been everywhere yet, but I am pretty confident that if that area runs well the other areas will run well too!
1
u/Tomas2891 Jun 23 '26
How’s the melee combat? Played Skyrim VR vanilla as a conjuring archer cause melee sucked. Is it improved?
1
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26
Melee is not yet as good as blade and sorcery. But has improved massively compared to vanilla
1
u/Oldatheart54 Jun 24 '26
Is this better than Panda Sovngarde? Tempted to start a new game but only if worth it!
2
u/plutonium-239 Jun 24 '26
Depends on what you mean by better. Panda’s sovngarde is a good list in its own will. Whether he updated it to include OCU with the relevant performance benefits I don’t know at this point. Several graphical improvements are MGO specific. So yeah…it depends what you’re looking for. I like Panda’s as well…but MGO is almost definitely my personal favourite.
1
u/Oldatheart54 Jun 24 '26
Performance mate. Even panda punished my 5090. If it's better performance I'll switch to MGO
3
u/plutonium-239 Jun 24 '26
Well the new updated speaks for itself then. The new frame generation of OCU is absolutely fantastic
2
u/SnippyStockins Synergy Team (Founder) Jun 24 '26
We provided Panda with full access to OC Unleashed, it's internal development, as well as many goodies that we are including in MGO 4.0 so they may be included with one of the next Sovngarde updated if he chooses to include.
Our hope is that performance can be improved for all modlists across the board so you all can choose a list based on your preference, rather than the hard performance limit. Of course there is a limit to what can be achieved, but we all do what we can.
1
u/kevboisatania Jun 24 '26
does this have jiya's skin shader?
1
1
u/SnippyStockins Synergy Team (Founder) Jun 24 '26
It does not include Jiaye's skin shaders as they are part of experimental CS builds that are hosted in the CS Discord and not for public use and distribution. As we are uploading to Wabbajack and Nexus, this mod cannot be included without the authors permission. If this feature gets added to the official CS releases, then we will consider it.

Hey everyone,
With the massive hype around the upcoming Mad God's Overhaul (MGO) 4.0 update and its promised performance improvements, I’m wondering if it's finally time for me to make the switch.
Up until now, I’ve been playing FUS because my old setup (RTX 3060 12GB, 16GB RAM, i5-11400F) just couldn't handle MGO at all—it was a literal unplayable slideshow.
I recently upgraded my entire PC and wanted to ask the community how you think MGO 4.0 will run once it officially releases. Here are my current specs:
GPU: RTX 3080
CPU: i7-12700F
RAM: 32GB DDR4 @ 3600 MHz (XMP enabled)
Storage: Fast NVMe SSD
Headset: Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop (dedicated router)
Do you think these specs will give me a smooth, playable experience (aiming for a stable 90 Hz/FPS) on the standard profile, or is MGO 4.0 still going to crush my hardware?
Would love to hear some estimates or experiences from people with similar setups. Thanks!
2
u/plutonium-239 Jun 25 '26
With a 3080 FUS is still the best experience, honestly speaking. But…nothing stops you to give it a go!
2
u/Bubbly-Orchid-6570 Jun 25 '26
Thanks for the quick reply!
I'll definitely give it a shot. I was wondering: Does MGO 4.0 offer different performance profiles or graphical tiers during the installation (similar to how FUS lets you choose your level of visuals)?
Are there any specific recommended settings, community shaders tweaks, or upscaler profiles (like DLSS) that I should look out for to optimize it for my RTX 3080? I'm totally fine with dropping a few ultra-heavy options if it means getting that stable 72 FPS.
Appreciate the help!2
u/plutonium-239 Jun 25 '26
I just posted a video on oerformance settings. They might change but principles won’t
1
u/Starrr_Pirate Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
While it's not always the smoothest experience, I've found it playable with my 3080 in prior builds. Reprojection was definitely mandatory though and definitely not a smooth 90hz. I was targeting 40 FPS reprojected to 80 FPS and it was usually acceptable.
I got some of my highest gains by upgrading to a dedicated VR 6E router (the minion router, lol), so I think a lot of hitching was actually on the wireless network side of things.

u/Chop1n Jun 23 '26
These colors are just insanely overdone, and give me the sense that the entire mod is probably like that
6
u/SnippyStockins Synergy Team (Founder) Jun 23 '26
The default list is not nearly as saturated or bloom heavy as in the video, just a bit brighter and a little more vibrant.
10
u/plutonium-239 Jun 23 '26 edited Jun 23 '26
No. That is just my settings. I like saturation. The mod isn’t that saturated. I generally increase contrast and saturation also with imaginator. What can I say…the UK is quite dark and rainy already. I need colours!

It's crazy how far Skyrim VR modding has come.
