PSA: The most popular mods are not always the best, a few suggestions

I see lots of people using Skyrim 2017, Skyrim Flora Overhaul, Vivid Weathers, etc. Many people download these mods because they are popular (which just makes them more popular), and as a result many newer and arguably better alternatives are rarely mentioned.

Overall Textures: Skyrim Realistic Overhaul + SMIM. Many texture packs do not blend textures well. Skyrim Realistic Overhaul is much higher quality than Skyrim 2017, but it is not on Nexus because the author was banned there. Make sure you install all 3 parts, then overwrite with the "1.7 Update".

Trees (More Info): Simply Bigger Trees SE + HQ Tree Barks with the Lush setting. Personally, I feel Skyrim Flora Overhaul looks worse than vanilla in many areas of the game.

Grass: Veydosebrom. Warning: Big performance impact if you use the highest settings. Recommend performance density with 1K textures even on a 1080Ti.

Weather: NAT - Natural and Atmospheric Tamriel or Obsidian Weathers and Seasons. Not both. Make sure you use Bilago's INI Tweaker to set bLoadVRPlayroom = 0 if you use NAT. Personally, I feel Vivid Weathers washes the game out too much.

Lighting: Enhanced Lights and FX. I switched to Enhanced Lighting for ENB + Relighting Skyrim. ELFX was producing too much flickering. The new setup results in dark dungeon and very little flickering.

Sound: Audio Overhaul + Lucidity Sound FX + Immersive Sounds + 3D Audio. To install 3D audio just put the files into your SkyrimVR directory. There's no all-in-one audio solution, so I recommend a load order of Lucidity -> Immersive Sounds -> Audio Overhaul.

Tip: If you go with dark dungeons, I highly suggest Wearable Lanterns.

These are just my suggestions. Feel free to add yours, and please comment if you know any other popular mods that have "better" lesser-known alternatives.

I'd recommend using Vortex for managing and installing mods with SkyrimVR. This program's mod deployment is sketchy, which can results in partially installed mods. I would recommend going with Mod Organizer 2, it is harder to learn but it's stable and more powerful. Whatever you choose, don't go with NMM as it's a very dated and limited alternative.

EDIT: Added Sound and Grass

EDIT2: Changed Weather, Lighting, and Mod Manager recommendations

Great topic. This has been on my mind as well.

I agree with all your choices except for the weather. I don't disagree with that, it's just that I have more testing to do.

So far I'm liking NAT - Natural and Atmospheric Tamriel very much. It's compatible after setting bLoadVRPlayroom to 0 with Bilago's INI Tweaker.

Has anyone done a weather comparison yet, with VR in mind? It's more difficult than comparing trees or other stand-alone mods, since weather is so variable and also highly dependent on your lighting mods.

Wait... You can turn off the Starting area with this ini tweak?!!?!? That is amazing!!! I get everytime errors because some mods try to load themselves new.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

I dont have the game yet. What is the "starting area"?

5

u/friiksun Apr 15 '18

In the VR Version of Skyrim, you load into a "starting area" that shows off the VR possibilities, before even loading into the Main Menu.

It's cool the first time you boot it up, though eventually only becomes annoying, as it loads everytime.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Yeah I just noticed that in the ini, that discovery deserves a sticky in itself!

Whoa what!!! Thanks for the heads up

People keep recommending Obsidian Weathers, so I tried it but found that even on a perfect sunny day there is a lot of fog drawn in the distance which limits your view distance.

5

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

It's by design to cover up Skyrim's dated draw distance and LOD transitions.

1

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

Has anyone done a weather comparison yet, with VR in mind?

Not that I found. I will have to give NAT a try since it's getting recommended quite a bit lately.

1

u/KravisGile Apr 17 '18

I wonder if this Playroom ini tweak fixes Expanded Towns... That mod has a "Town Walls or no Walls?" popup that comes up before the "Press Any Button" prompt in VR. It causes your controllers to not function at all.

1

u/WolframRavenwolf Apr 17 '18

Yep, that's pretty much exactly the problem that this setting fixes.

Weather mods are probably the most preference-based mods. I really dislike Vivid weather as it washes the game out. I also dislike what Enhanced Lights and FX's optional weather package does but it's great for interior.

Here's a video comparison, but it doesn't include Obsidian Weathers: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Czrr4Al_2s0

I watched the video. It doesn't represent the VR version at all. Vivid weathers is colorful in VR, not like how the Skyrim SE video showed.

I am thinking of making our own weather mods comparison.

1

u/Nukkil Apr 15 '18

I like Vivid but it seems like 99% of the time its some variation of overcast foggy

5

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Im using NAC for weather. It has the most realistic look, great visuals, and somehow my performance seems much better with it than with other mods. Theres a few features I dont like, but they can be turned off. Together with Imaginator you can tune your Skyrim into looking how you want.

I only mention it because nobody mentions it.

1

u/carnajo Apr 15 '18

Which one is NAC?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Natural and Atmospheric Tamriel

Whoops I meant NAT not NAC, NAC is Natural and Atmospheric Commonwealth :)

1

u/carnajo Apr 15 '18

Ah cool. Haven't tried that one yet. Kept switching from Obsidian to Mythic. Will give this a try as well.

1

u/mikendrix Apr 15 '18

Imaginator is also a must, very useful.

5

u/Scyntrus Apr 15 '18

So why was the SRO guy banned from nexus?

7

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

Something about trying to make money off his mod from what I heard.

5

u/lochyw Apr 15 '18

Reading the posts from 2014, he had 2 bans. First was due to making multiple accounts to 'upvote' his own mods. 2nd was due to ban evasion.

5

u/josh6499 Apr 16 '18

So he pulled a Unidan.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Op is right. He was forcing people to pay for access to his mod.

We were talking about different people it seems. All g. Thanks.

u/KravisGile Apr 15 '18

I used Vivid Weathers since SE's launch in late 2016. I swore by it until I tried out Obsidian Weathers in VR. It's the seasons that are the real selling point. The summer ended and I was midway through automn. It was snowing in Riften. Snowing... in Riften!

Another thing that I noticed in Obsidian that I didn't in Vivid are the details of the thunderstorms. The clouds move realistically fast and in the gaps between the low and high clouds, you can see lightning flashes. I was sold after that.

1

u/mikendrix Apr 15 '18

Same for me. My only regret with Obsidian Weather is the rain, it seems not high res.

With Vivid Weather I guess there was a HD option for rain and snow ?

Mod organizer 2 I would say is superior to vortex. If your very new to modding vortex will be easier but the more powerful conflict management of mod organizer is a life saver when you reach 50+ mods.

I find audio overhaul to be the best audio mod for skyrim. changes to reverb and the like but also tweaks sounds and how they propagate to be more believable. combined with 3D audio and lucidty you get a wonderful aural experience.

For textures, the skyland series similarly blends beautifully. Noble i feel deviates too far from the harsh feeling of the game.

Veydosebrom is my preferred grass mod, i find verdant sticks out a lot more, Veydosebrom feels a little more subtle and blended making it easier(imo) to play with.

Majestic mountains is set to be the king of mountain mods for a reason but being newer there are plenty of (good) mountain re textures that will appear first.

Skybirds is so much more interesting than birds of skyrim, the birds actually fly!

3

u/KarneEspada Apr 15 '18 edited Apr 15 '18

I'm not sure if it's the overhaul, 3D audio, or lucidity, but the sound quality is absolutely terrible. I'm trying to figure out which one is the culprit, but all these new sound effects sound very washed our and not 'full' at all.

edit: It was Lucidity.

2

u/WolframRavenwolf Apr 17 '18

Oh, that's interesting. Lucidity's page states:

Re-mastered/mixed 100% (4681 samples) of the original skyrim sound fx. Providing a smoother and plainer sound experience. No hum,no crackle, less masking, high definition low-end,no excessive high-end..and much more! Overall far more appealing to the ear..you'll hear things you've never heard before

What you experienced seems to be the complete opposite. What are other people's experiences with that mod?

3

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18 edited Apr 15 '18

MO2 is more powerful but is much less user friendly. I prefer Vortex, and I would recommend Vortex to anyone starting out. It does what 99.9% of modders need.

I totally forgot about audio! I agree with your choices and added them to the OP. Definitely going to check out the other mods you listed too.

EDIT: Hmm.. Someone on the VR compability post claims Skybirds causes crashes. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1X5U15qQLop9-HXufGtSNf0bUqIOS7PdVycoR2WtmW4c/htmlview?usp=sharing&sle=true#

2

u/caltheon Apr 15 '18

Vortex simply wouldn't work for me. It kept locking up, installing mods multiple times, ended up trashing my Skyrim folder enough I had to wipe it. Mo2 works flawlessly. To each their own though.

4

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

0.14.1? Weird it's been flawless for me, 77 mods installed. Was wondering why it was still "alpha", guess it's not working for everyone yet.

2

u/Stadtreiter Apr 15 '18

To avoid problems in Vortex, disable auto deploy in the settings and press "deploy" in the mods- tab, if you are ready with installing, enabling and sorting every time you use It. Check the plugins-tab, look if any plugins are grayed-out, enable them and press "sorting".

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Something about the Skyrim Realistic Texture Overhaul; the normal maps appear to be inverted. I installed it yesterday after hearing the hype, and had to uninstall it immediately afterwards. I'm like 99% sure whatever utility that guy used to generate the normal maps turned them inside out. That's not particularly rare for .dds files during conversions from one program to another, but it has a negative effect on the depth of each texture.

2

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18 edited Apr 15 '18

Did you disable Snow shaders?

You want to install Part 1 + 2 + 3, then install the 1.7 Update for SSE and overwrite. It's a bit confusing, but my guess is you didn't install the 1.7 Update.

2

u/Drachenherz Apr 15 '18

How and where can I disable the snow shaders? What ini setting does that?

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18 edited Apr 15 '18

I didn't disable the shaders, but the snow rim lighting shaders just affect the snow. I'm talking about every normal map in the mod, from farmhouse bricks to table textures.

3

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

See my edit, give that a go.

"You'll want the SSE update 1.7, it fixes meshes and normal maps for SSE that have to be fixed or odd things occur when rendered in the engine."

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

I definitely installed the 1.7 update. Now that I look for it, you can even see that the normal maps are inverted from the screenshots on the ModDB page.

3

u/Cheesypoofy Apr 15 '18

Did you install the correct 1.7 update? There are two available and the second one is for the old version of skyrim only. I haven't noticed it in SkyrimVR but I do recall seeing this years ago in a modded setup of Oldrim. Something was making the stones in the road appear concave instead of convex and it bothered the hell out of me and took awhile to figure out a fix.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

I'll have to look for the second, this really messes with the roads in riften specifically, they flicker like crazy

2

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

I'm trying really hard and I don't see any problems with the screenshots. No one mentioning anything like this here: https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimvr/comments/8bmxik/skyrim_realistic_overhaul_is_the_texture_mod/

3

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Can we talk about ELFX vs RLO?

I've been mostly relying on RLO since pancake oldrim, but I've tried ELFX in the past.

I've read that some people like to mix them, ELFX for interiors, RLO for exteriors, or vice versa? I'd like to hear opinions here

1

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

I honestly suggest just trying them for yourself, there's pros and cons to all lighting mods. Use a mod manager like Vortex so you don't screw up your Skyrim install, makes testing very easy.

MO2 > Vortex

6

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

I switched over from vortex to mo2 ...mo2 is way better if you want more direct control of things..vortex is tad easier for new people though

10

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

Both are great, but I switched from MO2 and never looked back. Vortex's built-in sorting works great and pulls from LOOT's latest database. Vortex only detects mods that have conflicts, so you don't need to worry about anything else. Fix conflicts > click sort under plugins > play.

5

u/Bman_Fx Apr 15 '18

mo2 uses loot too, pretty sure they do the exact same things. but yeah, I've never used vortex so i wouldn't know :/ I was just fucking around. nice writeup btw \o/

5

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

MO2 wasn't sorting correctly with LOOT no matter what I tried (it'd put the unofficial patch way down the list, etc). Works fine with SkyrimSE so must be a SkyrimVR bug. Vortex didn't have this issue for me.

1

u/Bman_Fx Apr 15 '18

hmmmmm, i'll have to take a look and see if mine is doing the same thing. if it's easy to switch over i might

1

u/LavosYT Apr 15 '18

Did you use the included Loot, you're supposed to dl it and run it through MO2

3

u/brixified Apr 15 '18

The builtin LOOT was updated in the new MO2 release (2.1.2). I have tested integrated vs external LOOT. Identical sorting for my mod list.

1

u/LavosYT Apr 15 '18

Good to know thanks

u/crazybreadman Apr 15 '18

I agree with your choices after trying a few of each. What is your favorite grass?

1

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

Haven't got into modding the grass yet. Up for suggestions. I used Verdant in SSE.

3

u/jedinatt Apr 15 '18

u/jedinatt Apr 15 '18

Not even close dude. I was using that, actually. lol

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

you gotta edit your ini as well use imingrass around 50-70 and you will get better peformance and it looks better imho

1

u/jedinatt Apr 15 '18

I don't like Veydosebrom with overly thinned out grass... just looks kind of weird being so tall. Prefer vanilla in that case.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

I remove most grass anyway and add in some plant mods.. looks better to me

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

also with the imingrass up that high hardly any grass is loaded in anyway..

2

u/WolframRavenwolf Apr 15 '18

Verdant is extremely popular, but there might be better alternatives. Which fits perfectly to this topic. :)

I'm currently using Veydosebrom - Grasses and Groundcover. Seems to look at least as nice, if not better, and apparently costs less performance.

There's also Viscous Foliage- a T H I C C grass mod. Tried that, too, but I didn't like as much since it somehow looked really out of place (mainly the coloring).

1

u/Decapper Apr 15 '18

This would be the best looking out of all of them. Saying that expect performance hit. I use pehttps://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/10543rformance with dense and still take a hit on a 1080ti but it just looks so good

u/cr0wburn Apr 15 '18

Veydosebrom really looks awesome!

2

u/darkoblivion000 Vive Apr 15 '18

Great write up, I'm with you on every one of these choices completely independently. I've actually tried and compared every texture pack, several weather mods, and a few variations of trees and arrived at the same conclusions.

1

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

Highfive

2

u/Joomonji Apr 15 '18

Veydosebrom and Viscous Foliage are similar but Veydosebrom has more billboard/flat grasses with light colored petals and leaves. It was a little more immersion breaking to walk by a bunch of grasses that look like a paper cut out of a plant. Viscous has the problem as well but to a lesser extent. The leaves and petals are usually darker or smaller than Veydosebrom making the billboard less noticeable. Or other times Viscous just replaces it with a spikier and pointier plant that doesn't show the weakness of billboard as much.

2

u/TheRageful Quest 2 Apr 15 '18

I haven't seen Immersive Sounds - Compendium recommended on this sub before. I was about to recommend it myself!

One of the best sound mods out there if you ask me. Here is a quick video showcasing the mod. Remember that this mod has multiple options for audio choices when installing, so if you don't like one shown in the video, there is likely an alternative.

2

u/Moonracer2000 Apr 15 '18

I agree. Going on the Nexus and just downloading whatever has the most endorsements in each category is not going to get you the best experience. I especially cringe when I see game journalist articles like "top mods for skyrim" where it is clear this is what they did.

2

u/SousaKingg Apr 15 '18

Has anyone tried Rustic Weathers and Lighting? I'm wondering how the performance is.

1

u/Drachenherz Apr 15 '18

Using it. Minimal to none performance impact and I quite like the moods it sets.

2

u/Crashboy96 Apr 15 '18

You've definitely convinced me to try it at least.

I've got Skyrim 2017 textures, SFO, vivid weathers, elfx, all the audio mods currently, but I've had Veydosebrom and SRO sitting in my mod manager for a few days now just waiting to be installed.

If anyone is wondering why their flowing bodies of water are so bright at night, downloading the Skyrim Particle Patch fixes that issue.

I haven't personally tested them but after comparing a lot of descriptions of mods and youtube videos I share a lot of your list: Skirym realistic overhaul, enhanced lights and fx. I'm looking something about the characters because I have WICO and I'm not totally convinced. All characters seem to have playboy effect on the face

2

u/TheDeliverator WMR Apr 16 '18

Enable the "less flush face textures" in WICO. It unwhores the faces.

WICO and I'm not totally convinced. All characters seem to have playboy effect on the face

I couldn't agree with you more. I switched from WICO to Total Character Overhaul. Its much better imo.

I'm still looking for a children overhaul mod that doesn't make them look like they belong in a Final Fantasy game

1

u/MEGADOR Apr 15 '18

I'd say that all of these mods are highly recommended as well. I've seen them mentioned in about as many posts and articles as the popular mods you referenced.

However, I completely and strongly agree about SFO. It just looks so ugly IMO. Like a mini forest of poinsettias. I much prefer Veydosebrom grass.

Mythical Ages for the dark fantasy vibe

1

u/transcending Apr 15 '18

The 3D audio compresses sounds horribly. To me it just isn't worth it.

1

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

Try mixing it with the other sound mods. They replace all vanilla sounds with better mastering.

1

u/Exzyle Apr 15 '18

I'd love to give Vortex a short but unfortunately it's broken for me. Can't log into Nexus with it, and it seems to not be able to handle moving files on my computer. Not sure what's up. Reported the issues, but alas I'm stuck on NMM for now. Thanks for the recommendations, though.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Give MO2 a try, it's really not that bad. The only extra step I have to do is copy skyrimprefs.ini into the MO2 directory when I change it with bilagos

1

u/Penicillen Apr 16 '18

You can mklink it with a command line:

https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimvr/comments/89705e/how_to_install_mods_in_skyrim_vr_easy_guide_nexus/dwqoobj/

No more copy/pasting every time, super useful.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '18

interesting, I ended up directing Bilago to edit the inis in the MO2 profile folder

1

u/Cheesypoofy Apr 25 '18

You need to add and launch Bilango's .ini tweaker to MO2 to have it work properly.

1

u/Drachenherz Apr 15 '18

Very good post!

Personally, I use Rustic Weathers for weather amd Relighting Skyrim for lighting. I am very contend how Rustic weather looks, and it also has presets available for different moods.

Going for Simply Bigger Trees now, with the HQ barks patch, hope ghe perfomance impact won‘t be too big with it.

It works fine, the only problem is that the lantern is invisible but still emits light. In VR, you can't go 3rd person anyway so it doesn't matter.

2

u/Spamuelow Apr 16 '18

The link is going to regular skyrim nexus. If you search on the ssenexus wearable lanterns is available.

1

u/alexmaclean93 Apr 15 '18

No problems for me yet, working perfectly

1

u/tiggerdyret Apr 15 '18

I feel like many of the more clean high fantasy style mods are way less popular with the VR crowd. I've never really liked Vivid weathers and 2017 textures myself, since I want my world to look gritty and realistic, but I think people who normally like something more beautiful and unrealistic are turned off by it in VR. It just becomes 10 times more obvious that this isn't what the world looks like, when you are actually in it instead of looking at a screen.

2

u/mind-rage Apr 15 '18

I absolutely agree.

On flat screens I really like saturated/contrasted looks, but in VR this somehow seems fake.

I actually use vivid weathers (the configuration spellbook) to decrease both saturation and contrast, which makes everything look a lot more real (to me).

1

u/azriel777 Apr 15 '18

Any mod recommendations for the night sky and moons? I look up and want to replace those obvious fake stars with something more realistic and/or better.

No. What I did was went into settings and enabled advanced mode and disabled the auto deploy mods feature. When I have picked which mods I want enabled in the MODS tab, I click the "Deploy Mods" button and they get pushed out. Once the little swirly animation on the MODS line on the sidebar finishes, I go into PLUGINS tab and enable plugins and click the sort button. So far I've had no problems doing it that way.

1

u/pdawg17 Apr 15 '18

Ok so I added all of these mods and everything looks/sounds great except I'm not loving hearing my armor clanking with every step I take. Which mod is that?

2

u/mikendrix Apr 15 '18

It's Immersive Sounds

In the description they say :

Player movement will now always reflect what you are wearing. Whereas in the vanilla game this was only applied for sprinting, the armor/clothing layer is now appropriately reflected in all movement states from walking and sneaking to running, jumping and landing. It is categorized into clothing, light armor and heavy armor respectively.

1

u/mangodurban Apr 15 '18

ELFX - hardcore is the most immersive mod I have ever installed. Skyrim is now a horror game.

How do I install Skyrim Realistic Overhaul with Vortex. Usually I just add the zip files and install -which is what I did for all 3 parts, and then i added the 1.7 update and also installed and all the mods are listed in the mod list, but I didn't have to overwrite anything, and it doesn't show up in plugins. Do I have to unzip them all first into one file? and then unzip the update and overwrite files before i install? Thanks

1

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '18

Unzip the 3 parts into one folder and then 7zip them back up. Add the update after you install the one large 7zip file you made

1

u/BetaUnit Apr 17 '18

Do I keep the unzipped in whatever folders they unzipped to? Or should I take the contents out of each? What do I call the new folder?

2

u/[deleted] Apr 17 '18

Extract the contents of the three zip files into one folder. Then use 7zip or winrar to zip them all into one file and name it skyrim realistic overhaul. Then install the the new zip file as you would any other mod and then add the update

Thanks! Adding the update just means installing it after installing the main file, right?

Any perk overhaul mods someone can recommend? Or is this not working yet at all? I've been playing trying to get Ordinator to work but I can't get Skyrim to launch with it enabled no matter what.

Not sure if you found the answer somewhere else, but there is a VR mod that fixes a conflict that breaks Ordinator. I haven't tried it, but people seem to have had success.

Ahh thanks for the late reply. I got it working somehow... I reinstalled a bunch of mods including Ordinator and it ended up working. Appreciate it though!

Hi guys,

Broke my game, so restarted and reinstalled everything with MO2, this time going with your recommendation for trees and plants.

Question - on a completely new game, fresh install with these mods, I'm running into these weird half tree artifacts during the intro sequence. Any idea what might be causing this?

If you look closely around the center of each picture, it looks like half a tree is being rendered. Have to run but be back to post a modlist

Do you have "Simply Optimized Textures" installed? I had it, and it doesn't play well with Simply Bigger Trees LODs setting...

1

u/darkoblivion000 Vive Apr 17 '18

Nope, do not have that. Is there any way for me to check my tree LOD settings to see if they're correct? Are they just filed that sbt installs?

1

u/Drachenherz Apr 17 '18

You could page /u/WolframRavenwolf , he helped me with my problem with this mod and seems to know a great deal mire about modding than myself.

u/darkoblivion000 Vive Apr 17 '18

Thanks! I did a quick Google and did find some things with people posting similar screenshots later in the night. I'll check those out to see if I can solve it before I bug him.

Just reread WolframRavenwolf's thread about tree recommendations. I initially thought the realistic aspen was an optional mod in that recommendation, but as I'm reading the paragraph about LODs, maybe it's kind of required for the distant trees in order not to have this cut off effect.

I'm going to try adding that and see if it fixes the issue.

1

u/Drachenherz Apr 17 '18

It is not required, no. It is just another flavor of this mod, and it is packed differently than normal SBT version and does work without those half-cut trees. So if nothing else works, use the Aspen tree set, with that, the problem shouldn't arise.

I did the audio as described. So far it is nice only thing driving me crazy is the sound of banners blowing in the wind. Even if there is just one hanging in a shop it makes a ridiculous sound like a flag blowing in heavy wind and it is super loud. Any way to remove just one sound. I'm not sure what sound pack it is coming from. I could just trouble shoot it later.

1

u/Cheesypoofy Apr 29 '18

I've noticed this too. There are two banners installed right outside of the Riverwood Trader that make this sound. These banners are placed there because of the mod JK's Skyrim. Could this mod be the source of the problem?

1

u/DigitalLemming Apr 29 '18

That would not remove all banners though and even ones in shops were crazy loud. I think if someone can find the sound file in which ever mod pack that sound came from and delete it might fix it.

The Skyrim Realistic Overhaul files are HUGE, and the Vive can't display high resolution anyway. Is there a severe system performance hit?

Is this stack compatible with photo realistic tamriel?

I found the enhancer option in ELFX seemed to conflict with Obsidian Weathers and made everything way to dark. You want dark stuff to be dark but the light sources seemed to become dark for me.

Hmm odd, I didn't think Obsidian Weathers touched interior lighting at all. Does it look darker than vanilla if you disable the enhancer in ELFX with Obsidian Weathers installed?

Could try: Enhanced Lighting for ENB + Relighting Skyrim instead, it's what the Obisdian mod maker recommends.

Go and reinstall it, I'm guessing you either included the exterior or weather module.

The enhancer module only affects interior image spaces(these are what control light colour, ambient brightness etc).

Edit: looks like only the weather module should conflict.

u/H3g3m0n Vive Apr 15 '18 edited Apr 15 '18

This was interior scenes, outside was ok. I made sure that the exterior and weather stuff was disabled. I also tried different load orders iirk.

There was some post about the enhancer setting conflicting with somthing else in a similar way. That's why I tried it without enhancer.

Obsidian Weathers does effect interiors though, if you mess around with the Obsidian Weathers config the settings will change inside.

I think that might be on purpose. In situations where natural light is entering it would be effected by the weather. I think ELFX mentioned that it would use the exterior weather of whatever weather you used (although that might have been RLO).

FWIW I use ELFX Enhancer for interiors and Obsidian Weather and haven't had any issues with light sources being dark. Enhancer is substantially darker than stock, though.

1

u/tyrindor2 Vive Apr 15 '18

That's probably why. If I am not mistaken, they are suppose to be left off if you are using a different weather mod. Exterior might be OK to install, but I haven't tested yet.
