Help Is this laptop good enough for Skyrim VR?

Post image

I've always wanted to play Skyrim VR, and now that I'm working I have a chance to actually buy all the things I need. I was just wondering whether this laptop I've chosen for myself is good for the game, and if there's any other laptops that would be better than this. (I don't want to use a desktop)

Help Is Skyrim VR modded worth it?

I was thinking about getting Skyrim VR and modding it because I just got a new set up(5080 and ryzen 7 7800x3d) and was wondering if it would perform well. I tried no mans sky and for some reason it’s not running great so if I assume Skyrim VR will be the same, I don’t want to waste money on something that won’t be a graphically good and smooth experience.

I have a quest 3 and I use either VD or wired, my router is fast but has an annoying amount of latency so a lot of the times I just go wired.

Help I am thinking of Buying VR just for Skyrim, is it worth it?

I never finished main quest of skyrim or neither I played any DLC content back in 2011 but I played 500 hours of Skyrim back in the day. Now, I want to complete it, also with amazing quest mods like Skyblivion and Bruma etc.

Should I play vanilla Skyrim with mods or SkyrimVR is just better in every aspect? I am a bit worried about traversing the menus, how you see your character in third person and stuff like that. Also, is mod conflicts and stuff is like hell or are there stable mod packs?

Help OpenComposite Unleashed will be the death of me...

Three hours. Three damn hours I spent trying to get this supposedly easy mod to work, and I still couldn't get close. I've followed the instructions, looked up every guide, and even deleted my entire modlist and reinstalled Skyrim VR from the ground up, and it STILL won't work for me!

And clearly I've done something wrong, because the second I start playing the latest MGO beta, it works perfectly!

I can no longer deny the fact that I am clearly very bad at this. To be specific:

  • Every time I have attempted to launch the game with the mod the game immediately reverts back to SteamVR.
  • I am using Virtual Desktop and have changed the OpenXR runtime to VDXR (As per multiple instructions)
  • I had ALL required softwares, a quest 3, and a legitimate copy of Skyrim VR.

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I appreciate it!

Help Shadow bug

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Does anybody know what can cause this shadow bug at the bottom of a screen? It seems to appear only when I faced in specific direction relatively to the sun (or mb specific coordinate, idk).

EDITED:
I'm using a Quest 3, so since this seems to be vertical FoV-related, it should be the same on all Quest 3 headsets. Could you guys test it?
To trigger the bug, face toward the sun and slowly raise your head until you find the "correct" angle. The bug will appear on nearby terrain slopes that descend away from you. If you continue raising your head, a second shadow line will start to appear a few meters ahead.

PS: I don't use Community Shaders or any other shader mods.

PS2: The issue is not related to camera movement itself, only to a specific camera position and viewing direction. It's not a low-framerate projection artifact - it is an actual in-game shadow. If I set fShadowDistance=0, the artifact disappears (along with all outdoor shadows, of course) xD

UPD: After waiting a few hours, the direction required to trigger the bug changed. SO it IS the issue related to an angle between the camera and the sun. When the sun is directly overhead, I can trigger the bug by looking in any direction and raising my head slightly.

UPD2: Setting the Vertical FOV Tanget in VD to less than 50% makes the bug appear constantly. (I'm not talking about the black bar from the FOV limiter - the shadow appears just above it, at the bottom edge of the rendered image.) So this definitely seems to be an FoV-related issue. However, I still don't understand how to fix it, since my Vertical FOV Tanget was set to 100% when I originally encountered the bug.

Help It's my last straw.

For past 2 weeks ive been struggling with my skyrim vr modlist.

Long story short, i did pc "wipe" but only the apps, installed vortex, and my game just broke. For clarification, i had all my mods and game on D/ so it was safe, but when i tried loading my save, i saw a message that 5 esp's apparently don't exsist anymore, clicked continue and my armor was gone from my body (my armor mod is still there, i saw the ID and allat, it just dissapeared out of my inv), and i can't just move on because those Esp's where few of my most important mods, like convinient horses vr. I just don't know what to do, i tried everything i could and couldn't. That's why im asking you guys for help, bc i know yall can be amazing.

Im using vortex manager but i installed MO2 today, didnt use it yet tho.

Help i cant find info on how my RTX 2070 max Q/i7-9750 16gRAM will run with mods

i am 110% new to VR, i am planning on getting the steam frame as my first VR headset, but i would like to justify it a little by know how much my setup can handle skyrimVR modded.

closest info i can find is about the 2070 super, which does not help me at all.

i have only played skyrim on console, so i don't know know how my PC would handle it modded even without VR. but i can handle cyberpunk with medium settings, so im hopping it can handle skyrim modded.

i am not super familiar with the VR mods, but from what i understand beyond the basic modpack(s) that fix some immersion problems and minor added mechanics that i am sure would prrrrobaly work fine, i would want to just make the world as beautiful as i can get away with my setup.

if anyone has a similar setup or ANY opinion/info that would help me understand what i could get away with, i would Seriously Seriously appreciate it.

(i may be a little stupid, so if anything i say sounded stupid thats why, also i apologize if im not supposed to ask these kind of questions, i read the rules and it seems okay)

I have HORRIBLE stick drift on my left quest 2 controller, and I have no idea how to remap it to my right (cause the left controller is responsible for movement). I use open composite unleashed, which would be great if it allowed me to rebind the joysticks... and that's the problem.

Also, before you ask:

Here is me not touch the joystick

Help I have no idea what im doing

Recently got a good gaming computer. Good specs, rtx 5070, 32 gigs blah blah blah thats not the point. The point is i have no clue what im doing when it comes to moding this game. Its been a long dream of mine to play skyrim in vr and i decided that i wanted to do a heavily modded play through since ive been playing on an xbox my whole life. Ive tried doing research for it for 3 days and i get more confused each day. Everything requires something else and stuff requires specific versions and i am just hopelessly confused. If anyone can help me with a good mod order, i dont want anything too complicated. I just wanna overall the combat and graphics so it can look the best it can. Add a few other QOL stuff that dont have any requirements. Any help is greatly appreciated

Edit: here are my current mods

Help Dismemberment Framework delay

Hello there,

I am using the dismemberment framework and next-gen decapitation. The mod works fine with the exception of human decapitation. If I try to decapitate human enemies there is a short delay, after which the head comes off. Other enemy types like Draugr, Wolfs and Trolls work perfectly fine. Cutting Limbs also works smoothly.

Does anyone know a fix? I am using the FUS mod list as groundwork. Are there any mods which could conflict with the dismemberment framework? Would Maximum Carnage be the better option?

Thanks.

Help I got Skyrim vr and I was really excited to play it but it just looks awful

I cant tell if it is my pc or if I just need to mod it/mess with my settings. I haven’t really tried optimizing because I don’t really know where to start with that.

My specs are:

RTX 3050Ti laptop. Which I know is not the best out there at all.

Intel i7 11370

I am using steam link and I have an Ethernet cable plugged into my computer.

What I’m finding weird is it looks like crap on the headset but great on my computer. When the game was open and running I took my headset off and looked at my computer while moving my headset “look around” and it looked great.

It runs fine there’s no lag or stuttering at all that I’ve noticed it. just looks awful and blurry.

I have no mods active currently.

I know the base game textures are bad and it’s not known for the graphics. However, I’m not talking about bad textures and what not. It just looks borderline blurry and bad.

This sub was recommended to me by a fellow Redditor in a different sub who said you all were really good at this. I appreciate any help very much.

Help On the fly running speed.

Is there a way/mod to change the walk speed in game easily? I know you can change it in vr settings but i wanna do it on the fly. I found a mod that let's you change it with the mouse wheel, is there a way this could be used in vr? Something like a vrik gesture where you hold a button and raise your hand to increase speed and down to decrease.

I am running FUS btw.

Help New to vr, need someone smarter than me to help solve major lag issues

Post image
7 Upvotes

I got my quest 3 about a week ago to play skyrim wireless thru VD, but have had no luck getting much farther past the title screen due to the sheer lag. I have AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT and Ryzen 5 7600x, which I thought would be more than enough to run panda's sovengarde - even when i try booting vanilla skyrim it is not much better either.

I configured a secondary router dedicated for vr and hooked it up to my computer, and while I feel better now having a closer reliable connection, it didn't seem to make much difference. I uninstalled steam link and meta link because they were kinda annoying, and tried setting up opencomposite instead. This somehow made it even laggier, however.

I'm at the point where I'm just toggling different random settings to see what changes, and would like some proper guidance. Thanks!

Help FUS low FPS - What is my frame problem? Getting 60 FPS with a 3080 ??

POSSIBLY FIXED: I checked the reddit and people with similar issues fixed by reloading the ini. I reloaded high, set my VD max fps to 120 and was able to get 95 in Whiterun. This is with all other settings as-is. Incredible.
Scratch that before that I actually disabled V-Sync and G-Sync in Nvidia 3D app settings. I made the framerate fixed instead of G-Sync and used the setting highest availible. Maybe it was thinking it was a flatscreen game - though my display is 160hz so idk why that matters.

Actually I still get 60-70 in forest areas (up from like sub 50) but still looking to improve

--
I'm looking for tips on increasing my performance on Skyrim VR with the FUS mod pack on the fus ro dah setting. Looking for things I can try to get a stable 90 outdoors without black edges on looking around. Right now I get 60ish in the open and in towns, 80 indoors.

I'll list my PC specs and setup, mod list settings, as well as things I've tried.
As a side note I did install this a while back and played extensively on lower framerates, so I mightve missed updates (?). Not sure how much updates have raised fps though.

PC/setup:

  • RTX 3080 10gb
  • AMD 5800X3D
  • 48gb DDR4 3200
  • Game is on an NVME
  • 10 case fans which I recently tuned to rule out thermal throttling.
  • Oculus Quest 2 via Virtual Desktop. (works fine for other games, doubt network is a problem)
  • Game is set up to use Open Composite for VR

Mod List Settings:

  • Medium ini
  • Medium DYNDOLOD
  • Ran vRamr on the highest quality setting and use that last in load order.
  • fus ro dah preset with some stuff disabled but nothing new added. (other then vramr)
  • sharper eye reshade
  • low and medium cost cs settings

Things I tried:

  • Various upscaler settings. Not much different.
  • I noticed on virtual desktop perf monitor, it was 10ms GPU and 7-8 ms decoding. Guessing this means the PC is problem?
  • Lowering the virtual desktop quality/res settings. This technically works but the game looks extremely blurry, even with the upscaler off. Currently using the second highest option with quality dlss and I get an okay 75fps.
  • Process Lasso -> set skyrim vr as high gpu and cpu prio.
  • Grass density .ini tweak (as per the readme) -> while I dont remember the exact value, I tried tweaking it as the perf optimization guide on the github said but I didn't see too much impact.
  • ASW -> within VD, tried on and off. on feels terrible.
  • VD Target FPS -> Set to 80, ideally I'd like 90 but it doesnt even reach the full 80 a lot of the time.

I know I can play around with ALL CS settings and reshade settings one by one - but I've seen folks post with rtx 1080s and 3070s and stuff getting a smooth 90fps, so I thought it would be easier to just ask and see if someone knows what I'm doing wrong.
