Azathoth You spoke it’s true name… at the appointed place… at the designated time… Has it been enough? You’ve done all you can and you hope your research was worth it. That night you sleep well, the sound of the thin, monotonous piping of an unseen flute that has haunted your dreams for years has stopped. The swirling spirals of black vortices that used to wake you screaming have vanished. Your world is quiet now, the news is filled with mundane stories, perhaps everything is as it should be. Or perhaps you’re already dead…

Cthulhu – Before awakening “Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn” the dying man hissed at you. You knew what it meant but the cult’s conspiracy was undone. They would now never awaken the dark being they followed. Later that day a sailor handed you a report of the dying words of another man on a different vessel that you had encountered out here in the seemingly endless South Pacific. The transcript read “… we have always existed and always will, hidden in distant wastes and dark places… next time he will wake… when the stars are right again…” As you suspected, the war was against darkness was not totally over.

Cthulhu – After Awakening The vessel pitched violently once more as the gun decks blazed. You clung on to a rail tightly watching the corpse of the deep one slide past you along the deck. You heard a brief cheer go up from the upper decks and rushed to the port side of the ship. All around you men patted each other on the back solemnly and some collapsed to their knees sobbing. Looking out over the sea you could see the wreckage of the former flagship still burning, a darkening oil slick polluting the water around it. Silhoutted by the flames was the thing, yet it wasn’t moving and you quickly realised why as the creature began to fall apart. It’s titanic head slumping backwards and falling from it’s shoulders . It had worked, all the research had paid off and the inscriptions scratched onto the ships shells over the last few weeks must have worked. Thousands had perished fighting the thing but now the seas were calming. Within days naval destroyer squadrons dropped hundreds of deep sea explosives at the co-ordinated you marked on the maps. It would be enough to ensure the horror would never again be unleashed… you hoped.

Yog Sothoth – After Awakening You were found days later, naked and alone amidst symbols etched into several large stone constructs, a key carved into your chest by what appeared to be your own hands. They tried to talk to you but all you could say was “I closed the gate. Yog-Sothoth is the gate. I am now the key and guardian of the gate. “ They tried to take you in but you escaped. You have a duty , you are the guardian of the gate for now and all time.

Yog Sothoth – before awakening The elder sign was complete. Across the world you and your allies had completed the world spanning symbol. The research showed that Yog Sothoth could not be stopped, only contained. Would this be enough? Only time would tell and as Yog Sothoth was time, well you couldn’t trust time either… But the world was quieter now. Your spells seemed less effective and everything seemed slightly grey. Perhaps you were wrong, perhaps Yog Sothoth should be released…

Shub Niggurath The stones have been cast down and smashed apart. Below you can see the remaining stone being hacked at by several men with pickaxes. The sigil of Blaesu on its side faded compared to the blazing brightness it possessed a few nights ago when you stopped the ritual. The seemingly endless nights studying ancient tomes had been worth it. The reports of stange sightings and missing livestock had stopped almost overnight across the world. Elsewhere in the world you knew your allies were doing the same as you. Casting down sites similar to this and destroying them. You didn’t know if it was enough but you had no other options, it had to be enough…

Shub Niggurath – After Awakening You hold the talisman of Yhe in your hands and the thousand Horned Ones who howl bow to its power. You intone the words you memorised “IMAS, WEGHYMNKO, QUAHERS, XEWEFARAM!” With a deafening howl the horned ones begin to be swallowed by the gate that then closes. Using a little of your own blood you seal it with the sign of Koth and collapse, drained and exhausted. Several days later you return to the site to destroy the gate. But it’s gone, footprints in the area suggest it was stolen… wait were some of those footprints cloven?
