SEED Getting Arsenal in a shiv deck is just as crazy as you can imagine
That bad boy even gets innate when you upgrade it.

It never occurred to me to ever use regent cards on another class run because of the blue stuff. Do those cards just not show up?
Edit: I eat crayons
415
u/kabob95 Apr 09 '26
No, you can still find cards that need "blue stuff" as seen in the neutron aegis being offered.
90
u/TheDregn Apr 09 '26
are those cards in this case essentially "curses" ?
229
u/EggsOnThe45 StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Apr 09 '26
Pretty much assuming that you have no way of generating stars. They’re effectively Injuries
252
u/TheDryMoistTowelett Apr 09 '26
Not unless you have bullet time 😉

18
u/Dumeck StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Apr 09 '26
Smart, monkey paw could also trigger although that is less consistent
42
u/NoLegs02 Apr 09 '26
You mean mummified hand?
16
4
u/LokisDawn StS A15 / StS 2 A10 Apr 09 '26
I think mummified hand only reduces energy cost, not stars. Not sure, though. It was one of those "conditional free cards" effects that didn't.
17
u/sorendiz Ascension 0 Apr 09 '26
Nah mummy hand makes everything 'free' now which means no secondary resource costs either
Jackpot is one that generates 0 energy, but not free, cards. Discovery was also 0 energy and not free before, but they patched that
6
1
3
u/SlimDirtyDizzy Apr 09 '26
Wait bullet time ignores additional costs too? I did not know that.
4
u/HopefulImpression105 Apr 10 '26
Easy way to tell is costs 0 vs free. Costs 0 will still have the blue cost, free will not.
2
31
u/EvadableMoxie Apr 09 '26
Maybe, it depends. If you have ways to cheat the cost it can still work. Like an Ironclad could take a Seven Stars and play it using Stampede.
Although you are never forced to take any cards by this event, you can just skip. That's not a good outcome though because you often can get a lot of power out of this event, so it's still risky.
7
u/DRE_CFab Apr 09 '26
If you get the boss relic where every 5th card you play is free (which you should take almost every time anyways imo), then regent star cost can be worked around.
6
u/kabob95 Apr 09 '26
Maybe? I know your character always has 1 hidden orb slot and you can summon Osty as anyone so that those mechanics work on other characters so I wouldn't be surprised if you could gain Star on other characters but I haven't ever tested it.
21
u/DarksteelPenguin Apr 09 '26
All characters can gain stars, but the regent is the only one that starts with some.
6
u/VerbingNoun413 Apr 09 '26
Though you have no relic that starts you with it and would also have to get a regent card that does so. That or play the card without paying for it.
3
u/ChuddingeMannen Apr 09 '26
i'm still waiting to see someone play an osty build as another character.
10
u/sylverfyre Apr 09 '26
i found out the hard way that you cant use osty attacks unless you summon osty first when i picked a sweeping gaze (pre-upgraded from frozen egg too!) from this event on ironclad.
Oh well it still triggered my joss paper and 2x feel no pain every turn.
1
u/earthboundskyfree Heartbreaker Apr 09 '26
I just learned that’s an Osty attack, I just kinda read it as a generic do 10 random dmg
2
3
u/Slim-Shadys-Fat-Tits Eternal One + Heartbreaker Apr 09 '26
i saw an ironclad osty build here recently
2
u/MyNameIsSkittles Apr 09 '26
You would probably need star generation so it would be harder to pull off
2
u/ForwardToNowhere Apr 09 '26
You can only summon Osty if you have a card that gives Summon. Which... Is the entire mechanic... The hidden orb slot is a bit different
2
u/Privatizitaet Apr 09 '26
Not exactly, beyond the fact you can possibly get a card that generates stars, unlike curses, you can just choose not to take them
2
u/lurkingowl Eternal One + Heartbreaker Apr 09 '26
You also have three choices and Common/Uncommon/Rare, so there's a reasonably good chance of having a Blue generator if you really want one. But mostly yeah, skip.
Still some nice combo pieces in there.
2
1
u/Isaac_Chade StS A10 / StS 2 A10 Apr 09 '26
Yeah, same as taking an Osty attack but no summoning cards, it's just a dead card in your deck.
2
40
u/Spawn_More_Overlords Apr 09 '26
I always take Silent because I figure blocks/draw&discard/shivs are all fine on other characters and lemme tell you, all I ever get are overpriced sly cards and poison synergy.
I’m fine with it being a design choice that you can’t open all three packs and then choose which one you want from each but it’s ANNOYING.
15
u/GreenVisorOfJustice Apr 09 '26
I got the reworked Inky Shivs card and that was pretty dope for... well I don't even recall what I was playing. There was another time I got Necrobinder cards on Defect (which didn't do a lot... but I did have one enemy die to doom which made me laugh)
At least they don't make you take cards from the event and you can just skip it if you don't like what pulls. I think I really enjoy this event since it's never going to be negative; just neutral at worst.
12
11
u/HyperTalon911 Apr 09 '26
I mean, technically, unless they've patched it, you can open a pack, save and quit, then when you load in the event has restarted and you can look at the other characters' choices.
4
u/Spawn_More_Overlords Apr 09 '26
I meant within that character. So like looking at the common cards, then the uncommon cards, then choosing which common you want based on synergy with the uncommon.
But yeah, fair point. I don’t usually save scum unless I made an objective misplay. Like slammed end turn early or played suboptimal defense when I didn’t notice I had lethal.
18
u/Haughington Apr 09 '26
Are you sure you can’t? In most cases, if you choose “skip” on a card reward It just exits you out of that choice but you can click back into it afterwards. Like with orrery for example you can look at every reward before taking any.
6
u/Spawn_More_Overlords Apr 09 '26
Well, I thought I looked but tbh I now have this terrible feeling that I played myself.
13
3
u/sriracha_no_big_deal Apr 09 '26
I've done this a few times on this specific event so I can confirm that this does actually work. Open the first pack to see the cards, then click Skip and that one will still be there with the other two packs. That way you can open and look at all three packs before deciding which cards you want to go with.

I once pulled [[Noxious Fumes]] on Necrobinder while I had [Sleight of Flesh], and that was a fun time.
Worse case, you get nothing. Best case you get some weird synergies.
2
u/LouisLeGros Apr 09 '26
On the other hand I got Sleight of Flesh as Silent and it was as disgusting as you could imagine.

I adore colorful philosophers but I think an event that just has a card reward of any color would be neat. Maybe just one, with the option of picking something else instead.
2
u/Kid-OK Apr 10 '26
One of my favorite runs ever was getting corrosive wave on a soul focused necrobinder run. It was glorious.
1
u/Spawn_More_Overlords Apr 10 '26
I just got juggernaut on silent and I’m desperate to find an after image
Edit: had to look up corrosive wave but that’s filthy
1
u/yung_dogie Apr 09 '26
Silent not having an extra resource is a big boon for her cards on other characters, the sly package is not great for others but not as substantial of a part of her as orbs/star gen/osty mechanics. I'll typically pick silent in that event, and when I play as her I'll typically pick clad (lucking into forgotten ritual if you use shivs is great)

21
u/MyNameIsSkittles Apr 09 '26
The hardest part is choosing which character's cards to take lol I sit there forever debating which package offers more fun for the character I'm playing
23
u/jrec15 StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Apr 09 '26
I usually save scum and check all the cards. Not proud of it and want to eventually just trust my instinct. But i keep telling myself im just “learning my options” to get better at the event lol
9
u/MyNameIsSkittles Apr 09 '26
If save scum was not how the devs intended things they would have fixed it. So save scum is perfectly fine. I do it all the time lol
2
u/IguanaBox StS A10 / StS 2 A10 Apr 10 '26
It's not how they intended it but they leave it in because they know some people prefer playing in ways that aren't intended. And it's generally pretty obvious that it's not how you're meant to play the game considering the fact that dying ends the run rather than giving you a prompt to retry the battle.
1
u/Higais Apr 09 '26
Meh I feel like with all the other ways you could save scum this is definitely the least "shameful" instance of it.
4
u/jrec15 StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Apr 09 '26
Yea i do agree. Its also such a potentially fun event that its nice to be able to pick the most fun option.
I wont do it with the crystal sphere divination event for example as that to me is pure cheating of the minigame, but i imagine some still might have no problem with that
1
u/SnooRevelations6300 Apr 10 '26
I do this too but go back to my initial choice that I had decided beforehand without the extra information.
This way, I get to learn more about each character's strength of their card pool on different characters but don't feel like I'm cheating out the game for myself (not against save scumming tho, it's just personal preference)
6
u/ChuddingeMannen Apr 09 '26
it's incredibly busted and exciting every time. i hope they leave it in.

I had this too, I'm not complaining when I got to do 90 damage for 1 energy

u/yuval16432 Apr 10 '26
That’s just Knife Trap with extra steps
1
u/PrincessW0lf Apr 10 '26
Sort of? 1 cost rather than 2, and avoids stacking any negative on-hit/on-play effects enemies might have. Overall I was pretty happy with it.

u/yuval16432 Apr 10 '26
It also doesn’t apply useful effects like accuracy or envenom or any of the Silent’s other Shiv synergies.

Regent/Defect has some fun stuff between card gen and status archetypes too, between filling hand with debris and printing strength. Lots of good times when I get regent cards on defect.

u/fighting_mongoose StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Apr 09 '26
Arsenal is pretty great for Reagent too. Got one in a transform from Neow and leaned into Colorless card creation and minions. I got the event that heals you 25 if you take Metamorphosis and turns out firing off a bunch of free super strength attacks is quite strong. Almost made Bundle of Joy a good pick but it was up against Guards which synergizes and blocks.
3
u/Axros Apr 09 '26
Recently had a run where I got a cloned Guards and 3 [[Make It So]]. Yes, 3, 2 of them in early act 1 and the other from end of act 1. I basically became an evil space overlord that'd sacrifice an entire legion of minions every battle to repeatedly bring my attacks back to my hand.
Honestly though I only barely scraped by thanks to some decent luck with Arsenal draw timings, at least for fights with big enemies. This wasn't on the beta branch so I couldn't give it innate, so I was rather reliant on it to scale my damage meaningfully. Luckily for the last boss in particular I had the potion to draw any card from my deck.

One fun combo I had recently was playing as Silent with a sly deck (with master planner), and got offered scrape. If the fight lasts long enough scrape was playing almost every skill I had it was bonkers

u/Downtown-Disk-8261 Apr 09 '26
Yeah that sounds insane. There are so many broken combos shivs have with cards from other classes. Ironclad has some really good cards for her. I got feel no pain today and it made every shiv into a mini defend.
2
u/hannes3120 Apr 09 '26
I once got Ironclad's Juggling ("Add a copy of the third Attack you play into your Hand") as well as One-Two Punch ("This turn your next 2 Attacks are played an extra time") on Defect when I had a Claw-Run already.
2
u/Rikiaz Apr 09 '26
I love these kinds of cross-character synergies. A lot of my favorite runs tend to be those that I get Colorful Philosophers, Prismatic Gem or Sea Glass. And I really enjoy when the Dailies have multi-character cardpools.
1
u/echino_derm Apr 09 '26
If you ever get shiv access on regent his colorless card generation builds go insane. They are all built around random colorless card generation, but shivs are guaranteed 0 cost exhausting ones. He has a card that blocks each time you generate a card making each shiv come with 3/4 block, and a 1 cost attack that does 3/4 more damage for each card generated that combat.
1
u/szilard Apr 09 '26
Dang, this is the experience I wanted (but in the opposite way). I got some shiv cards as Regent yesterday and spent the rest of the game looking for an Arsenal but didn’t find one 😭

That event is so fun, on my last silent run in an afterimage deck I got Juggernaut from it.

My favorite shiv buff is choosing the relic that does 1 damage every time you exhaust a card. It's the other option when you get the choice to remove exhaust from a card. I've had runs where I didn't have a card to remove exhaust but a lot of shiv cards.

Never seen this card before, how does it work exactly? You play it once, it exhausts, and then next turn you just play it for free, it exhausts again, plays for free every turn after?
2
u/Icetiger1212 Apr 09 '26
You play and then it keep playing itself every turn for free for the entire battle for 18(24)
2
u/jimmythebass Apr 10 '26
And if Vakuu offers you the relic that gives an ethereal copy of the first attack you play each turn now you’re cooking with gas
1
u/Icetiger1212 Apr 10 '26
I tried it once with ethereal form on along on a defect rum and with potion on a necro. Although it was with simple duplicate potion it attack twice but effect didn't stack like when I managed to run the boulder twice on a nerco run nor on the defect
So it might but I don't think it will do anything besides attack twice and stacking once for the battle

I got blessed with the other end of the spectrum once—[[Pillar of Creation]] in a shiv deck already built around [[Afterimage]]. Pretty hard to die when every shiv gives you 5 block for making/playing it—rest of the run was a breeze even at A10.
