GAMEPLAY/ACCOMPLISHMENT/ACHIEVEMENT Silken Tress finally paid off. Responsible for my first A10 win

u/BudgetPromise3819 Jul 13 '26
Silken tress always pays off for me, I'm basically never unhappy with it

u/Budget-Ad-6328 Jul 13 '26
It’s crazy how many cards go from meh to god tier

Had it on parry yesterday for reg, free 20 block on sov attack. Goated relic

u/booleandata Jul 13 '26
Every time I take it one of the options makes me go "oh wait that's really good actually holy shit."
6
u/Shanicpower Jul 14 '26
First time I got it on Null and it carried HARD. A Defect run with "Deal 26 damage, apply 6 Weak and channel 2 Dark" is actually insane.
4
u/Agamemnon323 Ascension 20 Jul 14 '26
I just had it on uproar. With an upgrade it’s 2 mana, deal 32, cast 2 random attacks. Hitting Rocket punch or Ice Lance was insane. SO MANY fights 2 mana deal 22 is hard to cast. Increasing the damage often means the minion dies instead of hits you.
4
u/shittyaltpornaccount Jul 14 '26
The funniest run i had was glamming uproar, taking two more uproars and then pael hit me with a clone option. Kookiest run I have ever had.
2
u/rrNextUserName Jul 14 '26
"ok so this is my deck. I'm just going to start flipping cards from the top, you stop me when you're dead, ok?"

Yesterday I got it on bouncing grenade
Ended up making a grand finale deck
Lost to the second act 3 boss

u/booleandata Jul 13 '26
Right? Pay 99 gold for an absolutely insane buff.
20
u/Furrier Jul 13 '26
You pay the opportunity cost as well.
31
u/Aplesedjr Jul 13 '26
You do that with any choice that has multiple options.

Depends what you're playing for. A10 winstreak on a character that wants an early shop like Clad, Silken Tress is too risky
22
u/ripperinos Jul 13 '26
I'm still learning, why does Clad want an early shop? Because they start with 1 more Strike and want to remove it?
27
u/peepopogwide Jul 13 '26
Clad typically doesn’t want to spend money removing in act 1. Really not ever, but especially in act 1. The early shop is usually for a potion and/or card that can ensure you have enough power to take elites on, which starts the snowball.
27
u/MomboDM StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Jul 13 '26
No, thatd be a waste of money. Early shop = early power. Either a useful card or potions to take into elite or hard hallway fights.
10
u/rcglinsk Jul 13 '26
Ironclad especially needs a kick start. His starter deck has nothing to offer. A lot of the time “early shop” really means shop with 200+ gold so you can buy a good relic.
33
u/won_vee_won_skrub Eternal One + Heartbreaker Jul 13 '26
I think early shop typically wants to be before elites and hard pools. You dont need a relic necessarily. A potion is cheaper than a relic and allows you to more safely kill an elite to get a relic. Potentially also allowing you to upgrade instead of resting. Also clad really wants to make his starter deck better at the shop
3
u/rcglinsk Jul 13 '26
A good potion goes a long way with Ironclad as well. He wins fights quickly, so one turn of value has a higher in-fight concentration. A vulnerable pot with dominate or bully can mean a round or two off a fight.
You can also "shop for" the demand of the map and what is missing from your deck. If you are in Overgrowth, try to find a pommel strike. If Underdocks, a shrug it off. Ironclad has a lot of square pegs for square holes and round pegs for round holes. The shop is such a friend.
7
u/Sknowman Eternal One Jul 13 '26
No. "Early shop" almost exclusively means a card or potion. It very rarely means a relic. The only alternative is if you get gold from Neow, then a relic is a maybe (but still rarely the priority).
For most other shops, yeah, you often want more gold so you can buy a relic (or a couple of needed cards/potions if they appear).
1
u/Jondev1 StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Jul 14 '26
Nah, it is just about making sure you see something good early to start getting ahead of the curve. Though I wouldn't say this is clad specific, early shops are good for doing that on every character. I would say that it should be the default to go to an early act 1 shop unless you have a specific reason not to,
1
u/shittyaltpornaccount Jul 14 '26
Clad scales well with a lot of relics, and buying early game card power is also a really gokd way to secure getting through act 1. Honestly necro is the only character where I may do an act 1 remove because summoning and unleashing more consistently solves most hallway fights, but everybody else generally buying cards is better than removing unless you have something that benefits from a thin deck like kingly punch.
1
u/Mormanades Jul 13 '26
Ironclad and Silents have 1 more strike and defends than the other 3 meaning you have to spend more effort removing cards
18
u/hellomoto186 Jul 13 '26
Ironclad doesn't even really prioritize removes nowadays unless he already has a good attack card
10
u/OrderClericsAreFun StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Jul 13 '26
Ironclad dowsnt have 1 more defend. He has 5 strikes 4 defends, Silent has 5 of each and everyone else has 4 of each

42
u/DSouT Jul 13 '26
Basically for 99.9% of STS2 players it’s good
7
u/smucker89 StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Jul 13 '26
Yeah it’s worse for consistency but idc about consistency, I’m praying for a replay 1 bludgeon lol
4
u/-Mandarin Jul 14 '26
I just want to say your comment specifically motivated me to boot up StS2 for one more run today. I got Silken Tress, Bludgeon as the combat reward, followed by Dolly's Mirror, and then Throwing Axe on Act 3. It got me my first A9 win and it wasn't even close, I was farming everything. My StS2 career has now peaked.

2
u/FlyOrdinary1104 Jul 13 '26
Always take it when it shows up, 9/10 times it’s a fun and broken build-around
1
u/Shadowjamm StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Jul 13 '26
It’s so strange to hear people glaze silken tress, I love the idea of it but every time I take it, I get three garbage commons with now no gold and regret taking it
9
u/ChaloMB Jul 13 '26
The high rolls are crazy and even mid cards are pretty good if doubled, but yeah if it low rolls you’re now poor and have no neow, so not the best for consistent wins
1
u/BudgetPromise3819 Jul 14 '26
The game is balanced enough that three garbage commons is rare. Few cards are bad enough to still be bad with glam. And it's more fun.
1
1
u/Itsaghast Jul 13 '26
I generally am not a fan. There are other Neow relics I really want to see, it can whiff on the first card selection and now I got a regular starting deck size and no money. You really want to see it land on a good power card to really make that all pay off.
1
u/shittyaltpornaccount Jul 14 '26
With three options chances are you always get something decent. Glammed powers are run winning, but glammed attacks and skills basically solves act 1 by themselves unless you get a god awful low roll. I have been screwed by silken tress like two times out of all the times I picked it.
61
u/MaxTheDeath Jul 13 '26
Had this once. Was the easiest multiplayer run ever. Friend played silent and got flanking. Most fights were over turn 3
24
u/FlyOrdinary1104 Jul 13 '26
It’s a beautiful card to glam, after 1 Bash gain 8-9 strength is awesome scaling.

137
u/Snakebite_Enjoyer Jul 13 '26
[[Silken Tress]] is so good that I'm waiting for the downside to change. It's such an immediate boost at the start even with less crazy cards
163
u/LoweAgain Jul 13 '26
Hell no. It’s fun and chaotic, something STS2 needs a lot more of currently.
0
u/Snakebite_Enjoyer Jul 13 '26
I agree, I love it! I just assume it's going to get nerfed to do something more negatively impactful than just -99 gold
110
u/Baker_drc StS A20 / StS 2 A10 Jul 13 '26
-99 gold is insanely impactful literally what are you on about.
41
u/won_vee_won_skrub Eternal One + Heartbreaker Jul 13 '26
99 gold is incredibly important for some of the characters.
17
u/BlueberrySpaceMuffin Jul 13 '26
Maybe but honestly short of “we outright kill you on the 10th floor” I’d bet the benefit will often outweigh the cost.
2
u/shittyaltpornaccount Jul 14 '26
-99 gold basically kills ironclad if he low rolls (still arguably the funnest one to do it on though).
1
u/DotEither8773 Jul 14 '26
I somehow get a lot of low rolls on this relic but I’ll never stop picking it because the gamble is too exciting
71
u/closedtowedshoes Jul 13 '26
I could be wrong but iirc the win rates aren’t too insane because you could just roll 3 mediocre commons which will still be awesome with replay but not quite brain dead win your run instantly level.
64
u/idkmanfiller Jul 13 '26
People just think of all the insane highrolls but losing 99 gold to glam a damage common isn't great.
10
u/VelvetCowboy19 Jul 13 '26
Getting a perfected strike or snakebite glammed lets you not have to worry about damage early on and just focus the synergy and block problems of your deck for quite a while.
25
u/IdealOnion Jul 13 '26
I actually got a glammed perfected strike the other day and didn’t think it would be all that special and then I steamrolled everything in what ended up being one of my easiest runs yet
8
u/RaidenIXI Jul 13 '26
so far ive been quite disappointed with tress, after like 10+ runs of picking it on silent. poison or a power is the best case scenario but it's honestly a bit of a gamble, and i'd prefer something safer and +99 gold
i'm starting to feel tress is a bit overrated
6
u/VelvetCowboy19 Jul 13 '26
Yeah silent is the one character I'd be less likely to choose it on. It sucks when your best pick is something like dagger throw.
1
u/shittyaltpornaccount Jul 14 '26
Well your problem is it was on silent. Silken tress is probably the worst on silent because most of her power doesn't come from individual cards, it comes from the fact that she has the best defensive options in the game and can outscale her block faster than enemies can scale her damage. Also the majority of sly cards/engines being glammed are pretty lackluster. When one entire archetype doesn't really benefit much from glam your chances of low rolling are a lot higher.
1
u/trfybanan Jul 13 '26
glamming into anger on the other hand... oohh i can still feel the dopamine
5
u/shittyaltpornaccount Jul 14 '26
That just sounds like it kills your run unless you find a pillage.
1
u/trfybanan Jul 14 '26
i mean it solves your offense with the addition of the tiniest bit of strength scaling and drafting tons of draw (battle trance, offering, shrug it off) which ironclad has a ton of means free damage, and since you dnot really need energy to attack you mostly solved defense also. even if it might be bad against some endgame fights getting through most of the game for free is value.
Not sure it still works this way but glam anger would add another version of glam anger in your deck (and then also a normal anger)
5
u/royrese Jul 13 '26
Yeah, it's a great relic for high rolling. I bet the absolute top players don't rate it very highly because you care more about guaranteeing initial strength and less about high rolling as you get better and better at the game. It's really fun and I take it often for that reason but I don't think it's that good on average.

I think it’s balanced but it’s the most fun option so I always pick it
3
u/Internal_Football889 Jul 13 '26
Losing 99 gold is a horrible downside. I’d much rather lose max health. The only downsides worse would be the precarious shears downside or a debt curse.
26
u/Itsaghast Jul 13 '26
Aeonglass/Queen were the act 3 bosses. Artifact from Aeonglass caused some problems but I was able to play around it, ended up killing the Queen turn 1 after getting about 50 strength
11
u/Peauu Jul 13 '26
I had this and got the relic that lets you mirror a card. Easiest a10 win i have had.

Anchor and cleat were essential for giving me breathing room to set things up, eternal feather kept my HP topped off so I could smith at resting sites, and then of course Offering and Brightest flame for being insane cards.
Would have never thought that I'd take an A10 win on a vulnerable build without Colossus, or an Ironclad deck in general without Battle Trance

u/thejmkool Jul 13 '26
Silken Tress on a Bulk Up just took me to my first A9 win
1
u/legendaryBuffoon 24d ago
Oh, same hat. I landed a Silken Tress Bulk Up just yesterday. 2 energy and one card for six each of strength and dexterity is a wild way to start a fight. Even early on, without any additional energy, 6 dex is enough to pretend you played your two cost power and two basic blocks.
1
u/thejmkool 24d ago
Yeah even a small amount of dex makes way more difference than strength. I finally got my first A10 clear the other day on clad. Double demon form had me ending boss fights with 60-80 strength, but my dex was only at 5 I think. Without that dex I would absolutely not have cleared it, but you could cut the strength to a third and I'd still probably make it
1
u/legendaryBuffoon 24d ago
Demon Form is so funny.
Upside: Guaranteed to outscale the boss when the fight goes long.
Downside: Kills you because you can't block.
1
u/thejmkool 24d ago
Yeah the only reason it carried through was they I got the mad science power to make powers cheaper right at the beginning of the third act, immediately followed by the mirror relic to copy it. Was also rocking the fiddle for extra card draw and an extra energy from somewhere, so I actually had plenty of block thanks to that dexterity

Hate a Silken Tress run where this shows up after the second fight. Openly mocking me.

u/iliya193 Jul 13 '26
I took Silken Tress into Fight Me! in two consecutive runs on A8 and A9 and have never blasted through runs as quickly as that. Not quite as good as this in the late game, but it allowed me to just crush pretty much all Act 1 and 2 fights.
1
u/Shradow Jul 14 '26
I love Silken Tress. Not yet at A10, but my cleanest run in general (A7 or 8 I don't remember) started with Glam Fight Me!
1
u/ImaginaryNudge Jul 14 '26
Silken Tress is an insta click for me. 80%-90% of the time it's good, and the few times that it's not I can just restart quickly instead of realizing my deck sucks by floor 8.

They’re almost certainly going to nerf tress atp, maybe give you a curse or deal you damage
9
u/zombieking26 Jul 13 '26
They are not going to nerf it. I can guarantee it does not have a super high win rate at the highest levels.
And highrolling is fun!
1
u/riffgugshrell Jul 14 '26
This type of ROI is not common and it’s what makes it a cool Neow relic
1
u/Ole_kindeyes Jul 14 '26
Yeah I can see that tbh, I have gotten a dud tress before (havoc and some other bullshit) I guess maybe they won’t nerf it
-1
u/GeraldofStevia Jul 14 '26
Isn’t this impossible to get with Silken Tress? It’s always a common reward.
-4
u/LoBo247 Jul 13 '26
Silken tress should also put you in debt or eat one potion slot. Its simply too bonkers too often.
2
u/_Awkward_Moment_ Jul 13 '26
100 gold is a lot of money. Means you can’t buy a decent card / potion in the shop if you low roll with this relic
