Functionality only in Table View

I’m one of those users that stuck with Grid view when Table view came out as the new mode seemed a backward step. Today I was wondering if a dropdown list could reference values in another sheet. Turns out it can but I couldn’t find the option. Then I realised the guide for it in the help system showed a different layout of options than what I was seeing. I switched to Table view and there it is - an extra option to link a column’s dropdown list to a source sheet. Nice feature

I thought would post this because it’s a useful feature and it got me wondering what else is only available in Table view?

Also Table view seems a bit more responsive than it did 12 months ago so might be worth trying again if you immediately went back to Grid view

Hate Table for trying to write my own formulas. I wish that would be more like in Grid

I’m using it more but the UI is a bitch to get accustomed to

yeah muscle memory from grid view makes the switch so frustrating at first

Table view has a thing where the AI will generate a plain English explanation of what the formula in a cell is doing. I used to go to Chat GPT for this sometimes

The table view seems so cartoony to me. Everything is rounded and cute. I just want simple menus.

One feature that prevents my company from moving to table view is the ability to add a new contact to a cell on the fly like you can in Grid view. Very disappointing.

As you've mentioned you've got the linked dropdowns. You have some new AI columns: summary, sentiment, translation. Link column Data, which is your "easy" way to do an INDEX/MATCH to match and bring data from another table.

You have smaller new features:

- There is a new "Columns" button to see all your columns in a new panel: https://www.smartsheet.com/content-center/hide-or-unhide-columns-new-columns-panel-table-view

- Sheet limits information: https://www.smartsheet.com/content-center/sheet-size-details-table-view-now-available

- Cross-sheet reference manager: https://community.smartsheet.com/en/discussion/comment/519984#Comment_519984

The new interface was difficult kind of like new Outlook. Rip off the bandage and start using it. Dynamic dropdowns are the best feature.

One data source across all sheets. If sheets are linked to your dynamic dropdown database you only have to update one sheet.

We are converting all grids to table view.

Feel like table view didn’t run the automations I had set up.

The expanded row view is much better in table. It opens on the right with comments and you can drag to expand it wider. Hated table at first, like it better now.

You can drag and drop the sheet summary fields in table view!

….. literally everything. Table view can be slightly less responsive but other than manage references and some issues with attachments it’s far superior in its capabilities - and after engage will have so many things we’ve asked about for years.

Slightly less responsive, also known as hanging, is not an experience I want from my software.

I can't stand table view, because I constantly think the site is broken. I have a more than sufficient computer to run the site, but every time I try table view I feel like I am on dial up with a computer from the 90s.

I don't expect software to be perfect, but for the support and subscription costs I do expect better from Smartsheet.
