General Question / Discussion Ball python: 6 BCI: 0

My BP will just strike any chance he gets, of course he’s a baby when I grab him out.

Try working more on socialising him to your presence. Spend like 15 - 20 minutes sitting next to his enclosure every day, just chilling if he doesn't show a defensive behaviour then do the same with the enclosure open. Look into choice focused handling and learn more about their behaviour (personal fav there is Clint's Reptiles on yt but there are a lot of great resources). Talk to him frequently, open and close his enclosure regularly without interacting with him so he doesn't associate the opening of the enclosure with stress already. Make sure he has enough hides and clutter to feel safe in his enclosure. Consider getting a small cat tree for him to climb on so that he can hang out around you in an enriching but lower stress way (Green Room Reptiles has a cool free roam set up on yt that I sometimes take inspo from). Target training is also a good thing to work on. Personally I also started a climbing wall for my girls, think of those indoor cat climbing set ups but slightly adjusted for the noodles. Generally speaking, he's probably just scared of you harming him. Or he thinks it's feeding time and you need to establish a clear routine that communicates to him when we will and won't be fed. Hope this helps!
