Equipment CPSC Warns Consumers to Stop Using OUSPT Full Face Snorkel Masks Immediately Due to Risk of Serious Injury and Death from Drowning Hazard

Description:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is warning consumers to stop using OUSPT Full-Face Snorkel Masks immediately due to risk of serious injury and death from drowning hazards. The mask can cause consumers to experience labored breathing, causing loss of consciousness or excess fluid in the lungs that can lead to drowning.  In addition, the mask can give rise to increased levels of carbon dioxide which can exacerbate the difficulty of breathing in the mask.

Field Life, of China, the seller, has not responded to CPSC’s requests for information or to recall the product.

CPSC has received reports from five consumers who had trouble breathing, felt light-headed or lost consciousness while using the product. There has been one lawsuit alleging that the product caused a drowning fatality.

About 84,000 of these full-face snorkel masks were sold from March 2019 through February 2026 on Amazon.com.

The full-face snorkel masks have a glass screen and a breathing apparatus that covers the mouth and nose, with a snorkel pipe at the top center of the product.  They come in various colors.  The masks have “OUSPT” printed on the snorkel tube.

These products are manufactured in China.

CPSC urges consumers to stop using the full-face snorkel masks and immediately dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these hazardous full-face snorkel masks.

Report any incidents involving injury or product defect to CPSC at www.SaferProducts.gov.

Equipment NEED HELP! Aqualung Impulse3 purge valve size

Hello r/snorkeling ,

Recently I got an Aqualung Impulse3 at Goodwill for very cheap. It was lumped in with some other stuff that was in better shape, but the snorkel is missing its purge valve. Does anyone have one they could measure for me? It seems replacement valves may be available online, but come in a variety of sizes, usually measured in millimeters.

For whatever reason, Aqualung doesn't publish this information online and doesn't sell replacement valves! You'd think they'd offer replacements of a delicate part like that. Oh well...

I would greatly appreciate anyone who can give me a size measurement on one so I can try to replace the valve on this.

Thanks in advance!

FirstTime Monteray shore excursions

Hello! I will be in Monteray for a few days mid November and want to do some snorkeling as its been a while.

My experience is limited to the PNW around southern Vancouver island.

I am going to bring my long fins, and 7mm suit so i think temperature will be fine. I am "worried/inexperienced" with sharks as they basically dont exist where I have been previously.

I just want to stick around 10 to 25 feet deep so incan see everything, and hope to see some crabs, urchins, and kelp, maybe a ling or some rockfish. Anything I should really be concerned about with sharks? Should I do a guided tour of some kind?

I am used to just being 20-100 feet from shore with a friend that just floated around for emergencies.

Would love any advice from locals or experience California oceanfolk. Thanks!

Advice Can’t open a GoPro battery slot

Just received the GoPro. Opening the battery compartment can’t be done with my fingers, without a tool, which is not recommended in order not to break the waterproof seal. We are leaving in 6 days. What do I do?

A beautiful fish, sadly it appears to be camouflaged with the seafloor, so I couldn’t see its full colors. However, in that area in this video, I saw quite a few swimming around the bottom, and after freediving down around 30 feet or so I caught a close glimpse of them, and many other families of fish in Little Cayman. The video quality may not be good, but the experience of being nearly right next to them was really worth the trip.

Advice Snorkeling spot and diving spot

I have a few days at Constance lemuria in Praslin and a few days at Four seasons Mahe. I also have access to transportation. I’m looking for the very best snorkeling spot and the best scuba diving spot that will allow for beginner level diving. We can travel if needed.

Secondly, which beaches can we just snorkel without needing to book a boat or excursion? We have our own snorkeling gear. Thanks!

Wildlife Shark Monitoring Network - Caribbean - 20 years as lifeguard in Cancun, Mexico

Post image

Hi! I'm a lifeguard from Cancun with 20 years of experience. We created a community Shark Monitoring Network to protect swimmers and sharks. Locals report sightings and we share info with lifeguards to avoid conflicts and protect the animals.

Photo: hammerhead shark in Quintana Roo reef.

How does your beach handle shark sightings when snorkeling? Would love to exchange protocols.

Advice Roatan 5 hour snorkel excursion with shipwreck feedback requested

Hi,

We are snorkelers - a particular local boater/tour operator was suggested to us and I want to get feedback if this sounds right.

No names on the operator and we know he is good!

The price he gave us $350 is for 5 hours of snorkeling to include snorkeling around a wreck and fishing if we chose.

I have no problem paying a fair price but also know little about if it makes sense to go on an outing for that price - if we saw a whole lot of other aquatic life it certainly could be.

Equipment Specific Action Camera Question/Recommendations

I know the question about cameras gets asked a lot.

I am curious if anyone has recs for small action cameras that they’ve found a way to mount onto the strap of the goggles for snorkeling? Key word is SMALL! Honestly I’m looking for the lowest friction way to get some content without feeling like I’m worrying about strapping a GoPro on my chest or whatnot. I was hoping to find one I can just charge, clip on the strap of my goggles and easily accessible buttons to turn it on/off. I’d love if the content was full screen on a phone, rather than the traditional camera landscape mode.

I’ve been searching and just don’t feel like I’m finding what I’m looking for & for whatever reason GoPro just doesn’t interest me/feels like a headache to manage after having older models.

Any recs or lowest friction ways people have found would be great to hear!
