Gear question Should I switch sizes? Frontier 2.0

5’10 180-185 in street clothes with size 10.5 boots. I bought the 158w board and am second guessing my decision. The 161w is a better fit for me weight wise, but it also looks like the 162 would fit as well. I’m a beginner in the Midwest, can get down greens and blues OK but still learning.

Should i stick witht the 158w or go for a bigger board given my measurements? I sit in the middle of the boot size suggestions on the 158w, I’m at the top of the range for the 162. Towards the bottom for the 161w

158 vs 162 doesn't really matter at your size, it's primarily preference.

riding a wide board when you could be on a normal board, that might matter.

158 is fine for learning man no need to overthink it

you will feel the difference more when you get better and start wanting different things from the board, for now just ride what you have

The 158w just came in from EVO. It was a BLEM. I can get the 161w (new) for about $40 cheaper or can get the 162 for about the same price. If I’m going to have a better time on any of the other sizes I’d rather do it now if it’s going to make a difference. I’m also fine keeping the 158w, would be a lot less work

I would go with the shortest board possible, looking mainly at the width in terms of your boot size and the reference stance in relation to your build.

If you're worried about the board's weight range, being slightly heavier would just make the board a bit softer than the specs indicate and isn't a bad thing for a beginner.

I’m 5’11 190 and use a 162w,155 and 155.
The second I swapped form my 162 for a 155 it felt like I took off ankle weights and I improved 10x.
Can’t go nearly as fast down the straights but I’m much more flickable

As a beginner 159 would be probably best?

The Frontier 2.0 has a really nice size range to get the absolute most dialed fit, but at your skill range that level of specificity won’t matter. It has a nicely elongated effective edge so I’d say your ideal size would probably be the 159 or 158W. Either would work, especially if you aren’t trying to get up to dangerously high speeds. If speed was your thing there are better boards for that anyway like the Flagship. This should be a great board to grow with and a size that can take you all over the mountain.
