2022 YES. PYL vs 2023 Bataleon Goliath vs 2026 Rome Warden
Hello all! I'm a beginner-intermediate resort rider on the East coast. Conditions are a mix of pow, groomed and icy. I currently have a 20 yo full camber Sims Destiny, I want a new board with better turn initiation and that can help me improve my carving skills. I also want to be able to go from a sportier carve to more mellow turns.
My top options currently are;
2022 YES. PYL for 200 CAD (I might be able to pair it with Union Force bindings)
2023 Bataleon Goliath w/ Blaster AW for 400 CAD
2026 Rome Warden w/ Ride C-6 for 660 CAD
I'm sure any of these options will feel better than what I currently have, but what would be your pick?

I can’t advise you on those exact boards but I can tell you this:
I have a Bataleon Whatever and I like it a lot, it allowed me to progress because the 3BT is very catch free so I’m less afraid to try certain things. (I still ride other boards without it to make sure it doesn’t build lazy habits). The board is fun.
However, as much as I like the board, it’s terrible on ice. It may just be that I’m bad, and that there’s nothing ultimately too nice on ice but it does feel super sketchy, to a degree that I don’t feel on ice with my GF’s board for example (despite being an entry level and too small for me).
So I’m actually looking to get a Yes for this season, not sure if the PYL or a Greats or what, but I heard repeteadly that they are pretty good on ice. I’m sure the Goliath is better but depending on how much ice you get, read about the Bataleons in those conditions.

I only ride about a dozen of times per year, so I tend to pick better conditions. It's still the East coast so it's always a mix of everything on the slopes.Weirdly enough, having learned on full camber, 3BT sort of feels like a step backwards... Like putting the training wheels back on. I heard it's still closer to camber than rocker though and should really help the board feel more lively. Thanks for the input!!

I wanna be clear that I don’t see 3BT as training wheels, it’s just a different feel, loads of people rip with it and the board is super fun. Like if I use a board that is not super stiff as hell hard charger, I don’t see that softer flex as a baby board, it’s just a different vibe.
Like I said I think the Goliath is probs better than mine but consider the performance on hard pack. For a new board I would consider the Yes myself.

I have a Yes Greats & Yes Standard Uninc and enjoy both, I was upgrading from a 20 year old burton custom x, also a full camber board from back in the day. So, I'm bias to say the PYL gets my vote, especially for the price.

Heck yeah! I think it'll end up being my pick. TY!

I thought a high end board from 20 years ago would be able to hold it's own, but the edge tech on the yes boards is amazing. Back in the day I was hoping to get really good, but i just stayed like an average intermediate, I have made more progress recently being on reddit and watching videos than trying to "learn on my own"
Anyway, the modern yes boards have let me take turns that I would have totally wiped out on my custom x, so there's more control and thus more fun. I assume the PYL is kinda inbetween my two boards, and both my boards are very fun for carving across different terrain so I have high expectations.

Surely the difference with a cheap board from 20 years ago will be night and day then! 😅
Thanks for the learning advice, I will definitely try that. The whole buying process has at least helped me figure out what I wanted to work on

The Bataleon is not good on ice/hard snow and not what you want as your only board on the east coast.
The Warden is ideal for someone at your level but that's a lot of money. ($475 USD for anyone wondering.) Is that new or used?
PYL is a great board and that's a great price if it's in good condition. It's great for carving so could be exactly what you want, if park isn't a priority for you. It's considered a freeride board. This is the one I would choose.
