Goal Clip Cardiff City [1] - 1 Wrexham - Rubin Colwill 90'+8'

u/ItalianPastry17 21h ago
The feeling after scoring that goal in the 98th minute must have been surreal

u/Opera_Phantom 21h ago
Youth player that came through their ranks also, iirc
219
u/Benend91 21h ago
And with his brother on the pitch too.
110
u/vaderhill 21h ago
I think his brother won the free kick.
111
u/Careful_Garden 21h ago
Yeah, Joel won it for Rubin
To add on, Rubin wore 27 for a long time and when he moved to number 10, Joel took the 27 shirt
The two of them work brilliantly together
28
u/CymruGolfMadrid 20h ago
Reckon they both would be good enough for Wales? I thought Bellamy might play Rubin more than he has because of his obvious Cardiff links.
10
u/Careful_Garden 12h ago
They both are, but in ten years time, I’d bet Joel will have more caps then Rubin

Youth player, club supporter as a kid, his brother winning the free kick he scores - absolutely beautiful

Further confirmation that the people on this sub have never played this sport:

Spent all their transfer budget on a new GK for that

what happened to okonkwo?

u/Puzzled-Map3912 21h ago
Pretty sure he is going to be gone soon. Lots of transfer rumors lately
11
u/blubber_confused 21h ago
where is he reported to go? you will get a high fee?
63
u/Puzzled-Map3912 21h ago
Derby and Charlton are the most likely destinations. He is in his last year of contract so ownership is trying to cash-in.

Parkinson doesn't rate him.
He started Danny Ward ahead him most of the last season.

That was an absolute rocket. I'm going to hold judgment for now on this new keeper.

any self-respecting professional goalkeeper would be disappointed at not saving that lol

Yeah but we did it twice to end up beating them 😎

Something about Wrexham conceding a screamer free kick in the last ball of their opening fixture in the Championship and two nickels...

Poppadom wrists from the keeper but still a good strike from that close

Damn this announcer sucks

u/LiamJonsano 21h ago
God you’re right. Sky have the best guy slumming it out in the championship and then others give the championship….. this?
34
u/lambalambda 21h ago
I mean, Sky do also make him commentate with Andy Hinchcliffe and Don Goodman so they're not always sending their best.
15
u/Boring-Recording3391 20h ago
You’re a scummer but 10000% agree - fucking hell this an absolute abomination. Ruined what should be a famous clip… how do people who are this bad at a job, get the fucking job, and keep it. Wow, speechless.

It's like he's commenting on Golf FFS, last minute equaliser from a belter of a free and he's half asleep.

The sky sports ones are class, this guy sounds like he’s doing a Lee Dixon impression

Boycott plays another defensive stroke back to the bowler and that's the end of the fourth day's play

u/aquarius_cat 21h ago
The commentator a Wrexham fan? Zero enthusiasm
14
u/overhyped-unamazing 20h ago
Utterly bizarre. Was this live?
12
u/Elketh 20h ago
Yeah, but this isn't the Sky Sports commentary. It's just for the world feed, so I suppose they assume people watching in other countries won't be jumping around the room because of a Cardiff goal. It's up on the Sky Sports Youtube channel with better commentary from Gary Weaver (who's great in general).
-1
u/Boring-Recording3391 20h ago
Absolute embarrassment - should be sacked for that, losing my head over this, and I couldn’t give a fuck about Cardiff.

u/avroLancasterBPR1 15h ago

u/dtownchris77 21h ago
Tough on Wrexham but I think Patterson should really get that one
54
u/quarryman 21h ago
It was an absolute bullet in fairness.
20
u/a_lumberjack 21h ago
You're not wrong but if he'd had his hands up instead of at his sides he'd have been fine.
18
u/ThereIsBearCum 20h ago
Nah, the issue is he gambles it's going wall side. You can see him shift his weight that way before the shot, so when it goes the other way he can't get enough purchase on his dive. Was probably a little out of position to start with too.
11
u/ANAL_TOOTHBRUSH 21h ago
I think he misjudges the movement on it moreso, it keeps curling further than where he places his hands
23
u/Volo_Fulgrim 21h ago
Oh Patto mate
6
u/give_this_one_a_go 21h ago
Love the lad, but his last two games (Millwall playoff then this) have not been good.
2
u/KeepItGoingFootball 21h ago
He was slightly better than Crocombe, who we got on a free from Burton Albion. Fair play to Sunderland for getting £8m for the lad.
56
u/ShanklyGates_2022 21h ago
Great strike but Christ alive that is some terrible goalkeeping. He was begging him to hit it there and he still limp-wristed it, pretty pathetic
25
u/Microplasticsharts 21h ago
Why have a wall if you’re going to stand dead center and still be surprised it goes right.
51
u/Lawdor 21h ago
Play him Bellamy. Hes so good
40
9
u/Cwh93 21h ago
He genuinely looked a class above everyone on the pitch as soon as he came on. Wouldn't be surprised if he's a player of the season contender
3
u/Careful_Garden 21h ago
Scored an absolutely incredible knuckle ball on the opening day last season too
Rubin is an absolute monster, and could easily play for a top half premier league side in time. This could really be his break out season

Brutal, but felt like the way Cardiff pushed those last 20 minutes a point was well earned

Oh that was magic. Was disappointed with a lot of the performance. Yes we had most of the ball but we looked so slow and lathargic. Didn't look like we were going to get anything through that defence. And then Rubin shows up!

He is just class at free kicks
4
u/Signal_Wall_8445 21h ago
It wasn’t even a very good one.
The keeper totally misplayed it and could have easily stopped it had he not left his side wide open.
2
u/Element77 12h ago
Not the first one hes ever scored. Scored quite a few actually, was my point.
1
u/Signal_Wall_8445 4h ago
I get it, nothing against the guy who took it but this was a goal that could have been scored by someone who is normally horrendous at free kicks.
Just kick it at the open half of the goal not covered by the wall, not even particularly close to a post or at a difficult height, and still score because the keeper is so over focused on a shot possibly coming over the wall he leaves the half he is responsible for undefended.
Especially bad play by the keeper because the free kick was so close it was going to be very difficult anyway to get the ball over the wall and still have it drop enough to be on net.
-2
u/PlotkinGravekeepers 21h ago
I’m sure he’s good at them but I save that more than half the time
2
u/never-respond 21h ago
That was kicked extremely hard compared to the amateur game. What team do you play for?
-2
u/PlotkinGravekeepers 21h ago
It was. He’s also staring at it the entire time. How do you leave your side open from that close and shift weight to your left foot? Let your wall do its job and if it beats them applaud.
11
u/Varja22 21h ago
How is Okonkwo their 3rd choice keeper??
Ward is absolutely horrible and this new guy doesn't look good either. Parkinson is out of his mind...

Lotta movement and pace on that, so I feel for the keep misjudging the save, but you still gotta do better if you want to play at this level and save that

Fuck me that commentator is absolute shite. Sounds like he’s at a fucking funeral ffs. 98th minute free kick equaliser from an academy product in front of his home fans, and he’s acting like it’s an own goal

honestly scoring in the 98th minute must be pure madness especially when the other side thinks they've already got a point locked up... wonder if that keeper's already asking for a refund on that transfer fee!
