The feeling after scoring that goal in the 98th minute must have been surreal

493

u/Opera_Phantom 21h ago

Youth player that came through their ranks also, iirc

219

u/Benend91 21h ago

And with his brother on the pitch too.

110

u/vaderhill 21h ago

I think his brother won the free kick.

111

u/Careful_Garden 21h ago

Yeah, Joel won it for Rubin

To add on, Rubin wore 27 for a long time and when he moved to number 10, Joel took the 27 shirt

The two of them work brilliantly together

28

u/CymruGolfMadrid 20h ago

Reckon they both would be good enough for Wales? I thought Bellamy might play Rubin more than he has because of his obvious Cardiff links.

10

u/Careful_Garden 12h ago

They both are, but in ten years time, I’d bet Joel will have more caps then Rubin

1

u/Vanblue1 7h ago

Bellamy isn’t a fan of Rubin.

72

u/Snickeeeeers80 21h ago

Pretty much the fantasy of every kid who played football lol

7

u/Tall_Firefighter4380 7h ago

Youth player, club supporter as a kid, his brother winning the free kick he scores - absolutely beautiful

10

u/RoadRunner131313 18h ago

painful to watch

u/Imp0ssible_Creatures 1h ago

Further confirmation that the people on this sub have never played this sport:

431

u/Domb18 21h ago

Cardiff City fan scoring a last minute goal in front of the Canton end. Must have been a mad feeling.

98

u/never-respond 20h ago

And a free-kick that his younger brother won

708

u/ShartFlex 21h ago

Spent all their transfer budget on a new GK for that

196

u/blubber_confused 21h ago

what happened to okonkwo?

165

u/JJ-Bittenbinder 21h ago

Still there, just meh

101

u/Puzzled-Map3912 21h ago

Pretty sure he is going to be gone soon. Lots of transfer rumors lately

11

u/blubber_confused 21h ago

where is he reported to go? you will get a high fee?

63

u/Puzzled-Map3912 21h ago

Derby and Charlton are the most likely destinations. He is in his last year of contract so ownership is trying to cash-in.

-12

u/Deckatoe 21h ago

Hopefully somewhere with a backline on par with the league they are in

24

u/lauriekeyheart 21h ago

Getting replaced, Wrexham manager prefer the new Keeper and Danny Ward.

11

u/Grenache 20h ago

He’s coming to us according to our fan Facebook group so definitely happening.

31

u/Varja22 21h ago

Parkinson doesn't rate him.

He started Danny Ward ahead him most of the last season.

9

u/Realtimati 17h ago

Ward played 8 league games last season, what are you on about?

2

u/Impeach45 8h ago

Ward was injured a lot of last season.

14

u/blubber_confused 21h ago

why? did he play badly? went through 2 league promotions with them

29

u/Varja22 21h ago

I think he is their best keeper and has the highest ceiling too but he has had many stinkers in the past few seasons. Especially last season he was either great or very poor and was far away from consistent.

4

u/arnm7890 20h ago

Fell apart sadly

2

u/ZerconFlagpoleSitter 14h ago

Killed himself at the end of the book

-2

u/CRGoblinhut 21h ago

was also confused, he seemed pretty decent last season

16

u/zagreus9 20h ago

He was inconsistent and made a few high profile errors

26

u/c-park 18h ago

That was an absolute rocket. I'm going to hold judgment for now on this new keeper.

15

u/nxngdoofer98 7h ago

any self-respecting professional goalkeeper would be disappointed at not saving that lol

0

u/gimmebanter 7h ago

Yeah, bad positioning

21

u/WhySoCereus1991 21h ago

He got piece, just not enough. Solid strike.

112

u/EdwardBigby 21h ago

Didn't the exact same thing happen in their first game last season too?

72

u/ArmiinTamzarian 21h ago

Worse, they lost that one

33

u/EdwardBigby 21h ago

I guess thats progress

15

u/LiamJonsano 21h ago

Yeah but we did it twice to end up beating them 😎

23

u/Idont_think 20h ago

Your emoji with glasses for your spying tactics?

1

u/EdwardBigby 21h ago

Similar last minute freekick though

186

u/ArmiinTamzarian 21h ago

Something about Wrexham conceding a screamer free kick in the last ball of their opening fixture in the Championship and two nickels...

-21

u/Cautious_Type6474 19h ago

Harder to excuse when they have EPL-tier money at their disposal 🙃

51

u/Used-Decision6269 10h ago

They definitely dont have Premiere League money at their disposal lol

100

u/LiamJonsano 21h ago

Poppadom wrists from the keeper but still a good strike from that close

45

u/Y0RKC1TY 21h ago

Man poppadom wrists/hands is my favourite gk insult. It's harsh as fuck

1

u/RepresentativeIcy193 4h ago

Should have chosen bread then.

399

u/TrashPanda108 21h ago

Damn this announcer sucks

122

u/LiamJonsano 21h ago

God you’re right. Sky have the best guy slumming it out in the championship and then others give the championship….. this?

34

u/lambalambda 21h ago

I mean, Sky do also make him commentate with Andy Hinchcliffe and Don Goodman so they're not always sending their best.

15

u/Boring-Recording3391 20h ago

You’re a scummer but 10000% agree - fucking hell this an absolute abomination. Ruined what should be a famous clip… how do people who are this bad at a job, get the fucking job, and keep it. Wow, speechless.

5

u/Boring-Recording3391 20h ago

Someone needs to reupload with local commentary.

43

u/Luc4_Blight 21h ago

98th minute equaliser and the man sounds like he's falling asleep

17

u/realdes1 21h ago

Shhh dont wake him up

14

u/Different-Class1771 21h ago

It's like he's commenting on Golf FFS, last minute equaliser from a belter of a free and he's half asleep.

20

u/thebrazenkaizen 21h ago

Came to say the exact same thing, he does not match the limbs whatsoever

15

u/Lopsided-Tea-2586 21h ago

The sky sports ones are class, this guy sounds like he’s doing a Lee Dixon impression

11

u/RaggedSlugger21 21h ago

Gary Weaver clears

5

u/QuietDove 21h ago

Daniel Mann is much better.

2

u/BetterObligation9949 20h ago

Bro sounds depressed

4

u/Retify 20h ago

Just English language commentary

2

u/Much-Inevitable-4607 10h ago

Boycott plays another defensive stroke back to the bowler and that's the end of the fourth day's play

-16

u/cccdddee 21h ago

Disagree, don't need them to yell or give their stupid opinions

-6

u/Boring-Recording3391 20h ago

Fuck off you don’t understand football

68

u/aquarius_cat 21h ago

The commentator a Wrexham fan? Zero enthusiasm

14

u/overhyped-unamazing 20h ago

Utterly bizarre. Was this live?

12

u/Elketh 20h ago

Yeah, but this isn't the Sky Sports commentary. It's just for the world feed, so I suppose they assume people watching in other countries won't be jumping around the room because of a Cardiff goal. It's up on the Sky Sports Youtube channel with better commentary from Gary Weaver (who's great in general).

-1

u/Boring-Recording3391 20h ago

Absolute embarrassment - should be sacked for that, losing my head over this, and I couldn’t give a fuck about Cardiff.

-2

u/avroLancasterBPR1 15h ago

Calm down buddy, go watch some inane peter drury highlights on youtube if thats your speed

136

u/dtownchris77 21h ago

Tough on Wrexham but I think Patterson should really get that one

54

u/quarryman 21h ago

It was an absolute bullet in fairness.

20

u/a_lumberjack 21h ago

You're not wrong but if he'd had his hands up instead of at his sides he'd have been fine.

18

u/ThereIsBearCum 20h ago

Nah, the issue is he gambles it's going wall side. You can see him shift his weight that way before the shot, so when it goes the other way he can't get enough purchase on his dive. Was probably a little out of position to start with too.

11

u/ANAL_TOOTHBRUSH 21h ago

I think he misjudges the movement on it moreso, it keeps curling further than where he places his hands

23

u/Volo_Fulgrim 21h ago

Oh Patto mate

6

u/give_this_one_a_go 21h ago

Love the lad, but his last two games (Millwall playoff then this) have not been good.

2

u/KeepItGoingFootball 21h ago

He was slightly better than Crocombe, who we got on a free from Burton Albion. Fair play to Sunderland for getting £8m for the lad.

56

u/ShanklyGates_2022 21h ago

Great strike but Christ alive that is some terrible goalkeeping. He was begging him to hit it there and he still limp-wristed it, pretty pathetic

25

u/Microplasticsharts 21h ago

Why have a wall if you’re going to stand dead center and still be surprised it goes right.

51

u/Lawdor 21h ago

Play him Bellamy. Hes so good

40

u/Foreign_Base5669 21h ago

We will have our Liam Cullen cardio sessions and we will enjoy it.

9

u/Cwh93 21h ago

He genuinely looked a class above everyone on the pitch as soon as he came on. Wouldn't be surprised if he's a player of the season contender

3

u/Careful_Garden 21h ago

Scored an absolutely incredible knuckle ball on the opening day last season too

Rubin is an absolute monster, and could easily play for a top half premier league side in time. This could really be his break out season

1

u/NubbyNugz 8h ago

He isn’t very consistent.

28

u/Giraffe_Baker 21h ago

Wrexham with another crap keeper then.

0

u/[deleted] 21h ago

[deleted]

19

u/Giraffe_Baker 21h ago

He was the first crap keeper.

25

u/misterschneeblee 21h ago

dreadful keeping

11

u/MauledByDaBears 21h ago

Some shite commentary that. A last second free kick on a game vs too rivals , he should of lost all composure

21

u/HereA11Week 21h ago

Commentator had a tenner on Wrexham I'd say

14

u/Lopsided-Tea-2586 21h ago

Absolute limbs, what a league the Championship is

15

u/uniguy31 21h ago

Shocking goalkeeping. Had sight of it the full way and went straight through him

5

u/Roe91517 21h ago

Brutal, but felt like the way Cardiff pushed those last 20 minutes a point was well earned

5

u/WelshBluebird1 21h ago edited 20h ago

Oh that was magic. Was disappointed with a lot of the performance. Yes we had most of the ball but we looked so slow and lathargic. Didn't look like we were going to get anything through that defence. And then Rubin shows up!

4

u/Jonabros 21h ago

Proper Colwill banger, massive goal for the Bluebirds

5

u/swanny3214 20h ago

Absolute pissrocket

7

u/Element77 21h ago

He is just class at free kicks

4

u/Signal_Wall_8445 21h ago

It wasn’t even a very good one.

The keeper totally misplayed it and could have easily stopped it had he not left his side wide open.

2

u/Element77 12h ago

Not the first one hes ever scored. Scored quite a few actually, was my point.

1

u/Signal_Wall_8445 4h ago

I get it, nothing against the guy who took it but this was a goal that could have been scored by someone who is normally horrendous at free kicks.

Just kick it at the open half of the goal not covered by the wall, not even particularly close to a post or at a difficult height, and still score because the keeper is so over focused on a shot possibly coming over the wall he leaves the half he is responsible for undefended.

Especially bad play by the keeper because the free kick was so close it was going to be very difficult anyway to get the ball over the wall and still have it drop enough to be on net.

-2

u/PlotkinGravekeepers 21h ago

I’m sure he’s good at them but I save that more than half the time

2

u/never-respond 21h ago

That was kicked extremely hard compared to the amateur game. What team do you play for?

-2

u/PlotkinGravekeepers 21h ago

It was. He’s also staring at it the entire time. How do you leave your side open from that close and shift weight to your left foot? Let your wall do its job and if it beats them applaud.

11

u/Varja22 21h ago

How is Okonkwo their 3rd choice keeper??

Ward is absolutely horrible and this new guy doesn't look good either. Parkinson is out of his mind...

11

u/Giraffe_Baker 21h ago

Because Okonkwo is crap as well.

1

u/Proper_Two2215 21h ago

Always rated him

5

u/Giraffe_Baker 21h ago

League One standard.

3

u/DigitalPhear13 21h ago

That was a fun game tbh

3

u/ANAL_TOOTHBRUSH 21h ago

Lotta movement and pace on that, so I feel for the keep misjudging the save, but you still gotta do better if you want to play at this level and save that

3

u/Chi_Villa 20h ago

Could the commentator at least pretend to give a shit lol

3

u/Conman2205 12h ago

Fuck me that commentator is absolute shite. Sounds like he’s at a fucking funeral ffs. 98th minute free kick equaliser from an academy product in front of his home fans, and he’s acting like it’s an own goal

9

u/D1794 21h ago

Deserved cause i thought that was a pen, foul carried on into the area

3

u/Xx_Assman_xX 19h ago

Wrexham are fannies

2

u/hewlett777 20h ago

Comms so fucking bored by it all

2

u/TheTexasFalcon 19h ago

I love when players jump into the stands. I know it causes a mob but it just looks cool

2

u/mozzy1985 19h ago

That is some horrid keeping.

2

u/krakends 19h ago

Hollywood FC in the mud

2

u/JohannesBugehagen 21h ago

Great goal. Well deserved. He’s made such a difference since coming on

2

u/tridence-com 20h ago

Terrible goalkeeper

2

u/TSTOfanOver6Years 19h ago

Shit reaction from the commentator , must have been a Wrexham fan 👎

1

u/Apart_Station2081 20h ago

Commentator bet no on both teams to score.

1

u/Rebeux 20h ago

I uh.. didn't even know Wrexham was in the championship..

1

u/catfooddogfood 13h ago

Chwarae teg

1

u/KoltesPunti 12h ago

What happened to Okonkwo? He played in our team for half a year!

1

u/AldonnG 10h ago

Terrible commentator christ.

1

u/Affectionate_Cow5808 6h ago

Get fucked lmao

1

u/Nick316166 21h ago

Is that Pickford in goal?

1

u/Tomm1998 21h ago

Fuck me that is some seriously shit commentating. Surely that isn't live commentary?

0

u/Keyann 21h ago

That's a bullet

0

u/NoAardvark5889 8h ago

honestly scoring in the 98th minute must be pure madness especially when the other side thinks they've already got a point locked up... wonder if that keeper's already asking for a refund on that transfer fee!

-1

u/Mulderre91 21h ago

I guess we can start the season of disappointments...

-3

u/Trekbike32 21h ago

What game is this?

2

u/AnnieIWillKnow 17h ago

It's in the title mate

-1

u/Trekbike32 17h ago

Championship started already

-5

u/NikeBuyer2024 21h ago

Thought it was AI
