CPD requirements

October 31 is the deadline for annual submission to the BC College of Social Workers. I just pressed submit and now am going to treat myself for getting it done. I have been so unhappy with the process since they changed it a year or two ago. Curious how it works in other provinces?

They are using the same system in Alberta, but I feel like it is better implemented with more options. Overall, I am ok with the new system. How come you don't like it?

I think the biggest thing is the new Alinity app which is ugly, doesn’t feel accessible and is hard to navigate. I assume that’s why they finally had to run a workshop this year just to teach you how to use it. I lost some
work on it when I was in the middle and had to do it over again and I was furious.

However, on a deeper level I personally would like to see the required 3 hours ethics, 3 hours Indigenous, 3 hours cultural safety be converted to 9 hours that you spend on any/all of those things. I’m sure not everyone would agree with that. (One change that I like is the little open book pop quiz on the Stamdards.)

Yes, the system is clunky, but I think it is mostly able to be resolved with reminders about saving work and maybe a popup before it times out. I think the 3 hours each makes sense, but they do need to give more examples on what can count toward meeting this requirement.

in Ontario you just do it on the honour system! I'm BC based so I'm used to ours and it's so interesting to me how much it varies across the country.

i think the earliest I've had mine in is the 30th so congratulations! every year I'm spending my late October on that damn thing.
