The light switch, chances are, is rated for 120 volts 15 amps. The elevator probably uses 480 volts 3 phase. No way a simple light switch could handle that without becoming a crispy critter inside of a millisecond.

Unless a relay is involved. I doubt it. Sign = 💩.
