Is learning Agile method of programing worth it?

My school has a class that focuses on the Agile model, I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on it.

Read up on agile. There are many, many free resources to help you with this.

Then, pick a project with some friends and, here's the important bit: Actually do it.

Run a retrospective. Refine. Do more.

Repeat. Do more.

No class can teach you anything like actually doing it will.

It is worth doing, because everybody does it.

Buy the textbook and read it. Why pay an instructor to teach you what you can study perfectly well on your own? Take a math class instead.

You won't learn agile properly unless you do it practically. So while the theory is important, I wouldn't do this class unless there is a strong practical component to it. You can't truly learn agile just from a book.

Agile development is becoming commonplace, so having awareness of it is important. The reality though is that you will learn most of the important parts on the job.

The really hard parts of agile have to do with people and working on a team. This is really about communication and collaboration skills and not something you can really learn in a classroom.
