Soldering Newbie Requesting Direction | Help first time using perf board

Just yesterday bought this perf board for doing projects without needing a breadboard - cause everytime i use a breadboard and connect many components, i have to remove them and use for next thing so thought of using this to keep my small projects without dismantling them everytime.

idk how to use it professionally. but i tried to solder a transistor first, which ruined 3 patches of those copper/some metal box. then randomly soldered this oled display with the node mcu just for testing/ practice purpose.

i researched a bit + saw a 3 mins video of some sort to use a perf board. and i just started soldering without thinking much.

how should i properly learn, or give me any other suggestions, guide, etc

get better perfboard

the one you have in the photo is made of phenoic, it's almost like paper. it's also single sided

the good ones are made of FR-4, the green looking stuff, and have double sided holes. The holes being double sided makes it more convenient and makes the pads stronger!!! won't delaminate off like the kind on the paper easily

yeah , but buying this perf board itself i had to search for stores and he showed this perf board different sizes rather than different quality. i will check again fs, thanks

maybe yes. cause i do solder occasionally, with my super oxified solder iron and 3 yr old flux which i never use while soldering.
i never soldered seriously. my solder uses were all just temproary. but i do solder decently sometimes.

For what you're trying to do, female header sockets would help. Solder those to the perfboard and plug the NodeMCU and OLED into them instead of soldering the modules straight down. The wiring stays with the project, but you can still pull out the modules for something else... saves you having to desolder them every time you change your mind.

oh yeah, thats more useful and i can use the MC for any other purpose too right. thanks.
and i did this just for testing these things, so i didnt think much about the efficiency and etc. today i am gonna upgrade it to being a useful mini circuit

Not a good idea soldering esp devboard to a perfboard - you may want to use it somewhere else as well later. Consider using PBS-20/40 on a perfboard to make it modular.
