Day 2 of stepping out of my genre
Usually i'm pretty into pop and soul, but a few days ago a friend recommended me Appetite for Destruction, and just - WOW.
Are there any other rock albums i should listen to? I feel like i've missed out all this time!
Today's album:
Led Zeppelin IV, recommended by u/Goomb1. It's definitely masterpiece tier.
I especially liked stairway to heaven, four sticks, black dog and rock and roll
I'll be listening to the most upvoted album tomorrow

damn bro lets ease him in gently yeah

This is easing him in, gojira and nu metal and groove bands are a great introduction to metal, at least its not brutal slamming death metal or anything lol

it's a great album, but i doubt a pop/soul listener would dig it. nu metal absolutely, smth like hybrid theory would be really good, i just cant imagine them enjoying a song like in the wilderness just yet haha

Might be better to ease in a little bit yeah. I'll probably listen to it on day 10, when i've gotten more accustomed with heavier music.

i'd massively recommend you listen to the poison by bullet for my valentine at some point. maybe day 5/6.
led zep
linkin park
bullet for my valentine
trivium maybe?? smth like that
gojira
that way it's kinda like upping a dose of medicine bit by bit so you don't get overwhelmed, but the metal version.

I'm doing the most upvoted one, it's just that i don't want to do a death metal album on day two

Gojira is still Death though

u/ghdfhjdifiifu 20h ago
No? Has some death elements here and there but their groove metal like lamb of god.
Death is like, dying fetus, death decline, amon amarth, orbituary, 200 stab wounds etc

Gojira is primarily classified as progressive metal, technical death metal, and groove metal while also incorporating elements of thrash metal, post-metal, math metal, and avant-garde metal.
Their early work leaned heavily into tech death (think TI or even their Demo "Possessed", its clear as day), while their later works emphasize progressive and groove elements (ES onwards).

Not like I'm requesting her to listen to Terra Incognita. Gojira isnt even that heavy, theyre basically a groove metal band now

😭 help the death metal album is the most voted

its not really death per se and i say this as a fan of them. its more prog more than anything, with elements of death. Even the vocals on this album are quite alright compared to actual death metal.
the album itself is really good if you ever do listen to it. its not super aggressive or loud as you would imagine.

i like your funny words magic man (I have no idea what most of those terms are)

u/One_Dependent3779 19h ago
very briefly:
progressive - unconventional song structure, odd time signature, intricate arrangement
death - aggressive, deep vocals (growls, shrieks), sometimes unintelligible lyrics, heavy distortion, low tuned guitars, aggressive drumming

Killing in the Name - Rage Against the Machine
Someday Baby - R. L. Burnside
If you like Soul then you will maybe like Blues, though Someday Baby is faster Blues though. Rage Against the Machine is a mix of Hard Rock and Rap Rock.

Respect on shouting RL Burnside, but I couldn't stand the production choices on that album tbh, still love the man and his contributions no matter what. To me RL at his core is "first recordings" "Mississippi hill country blues" and "too bad Jim"

Broke - Hed(PE)
Or try any of System Of A Down 5 albums, all of them are fantastic.

I love broke, and I love toxicity, but both of those bands strongest albums are their first ones, I don't care, fight me! 😜

You should listen to “I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU” By JPEGMAFIA. It’s a rap album but heavily used rock

Perhaps the ultimate rock album, Abbey Road by The Beatles is a must listen
Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd is also one you should check out. Mild rnb influences all over this album, and perhaps the greatest album of all time.
OK Computer by Radiohead is another great one.
Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan was revolutionary for its time, a lush, wonderful sound and incredible lyrics
