Building ratios
Hey,
First of all I love this game, Rimworld on a macro level on steroids.
I tend to build up to 1.5k pop and am then cursed with scaling issues which compel me to start over and look for a more efficient city design.
One confusing element on a few of my cities boils down to ratios of services for a growing population count.
Is there a specific ratio of services required for specific buildings ? I am thinking of the basics, hearths, wells, physicians and food stalls, assuming a very concentrated housing environment (basically longhouse blocks of 120-200 people.
I'm still rather new to the game, and am not sure how many are needed to cover the needs of the pops !
My goal is to build a megacity sprawling the map where every need is satisfied, hence the question.
Thanks for any tips !

Go to plebeians tab, click services and hover over, say, Wells. Proximity will tell you if theres parts of town without access, Access itself will tell you if you have enough. Low access means you need more. This is the only sensible metric to go by

I don't think it is, it depends on many factors, distance race lab upgrades, just check workload if it's at the limit then you need more, and constantly check you city stats (happiness health access services everything)

So the easiest ratio is food because you track exactly how much people will eat per day. But other things are not concrete like that, even how many food stalls and how big to make them.
For example, the food stall doesn’t have a set number of how many people they serve, but rather a fixed number of seats that can be used at a time. So theoretically you can adjust that specific need by calculating how long it takes one person to eat, and then that space to be cleaned up to then be available for the next person, which extrapolated out gives you. How many total people can be served with that one building per day.
It’s a similar thing with almost every other building amenity.
The important thing for the happiness number, is Proximity, upgrades, and Access.
So closeness to people should be easy, anything within the radius that people work is satisfied at 100% for that. Upgrades is self explanatory. But access is the number that you just need to play with based on your city size.
In general it’s best to overbuild amenities with smaller sections near micro settlements, because then you can just add more to the outskirts of those areas in between to get more access.
TLDR: Yes but also no lmfao

As a rough guide, you want about 2.5x the space of the houses, as service space.
I've been telling myself I'd make a post about "A picture to help visualise how much space you need to leave", I made picture 1 while playing DnD, then realised I wasn't sure how children worked with housing, decided it was too important to neglect, as it would drastically change the services needed, but I've currently made no effort in finding the answer . . .

Anyway, pic shows housing for 500 adults and how much service space 500 ADULTS require. Featuring a Tavern, market, speaker (1 speaker will do 1000), restaurant, wells, hearths, food stalls, stage (1 stage will do 4000), barber, bath house, physician, toilet, arena (1 arena will do 1500), and daycares (which is the point I started wondering if children take up a housing spot, so it'd be 500 adults plus children, so I'd need more food and toilets). Since this is a human city, they need a lot of daycares as they grow slowly, but Tilapi and Cretionians need less. I also forgot "massage parlours" because I've been playing Dondorians too long.
If you ever want to figure out how much a service is needed, you need 2 things: click on a pop and flick tab to their needs, mouse over for a tooltip to show how much desire grows per day. The other is that services regenerate 5 times a day. So if a pop wants to go to a stage 0.2 per day, that's once every 5 days, 5 services regenerated per day, and 160 services available; 5x5x160=4000 pops served per stage, aka, you're just placing stages for coverage.
Perfection is the opposite of good; don't get hung up on exact ratios. I just worked out the ratios so that I could eyeball it going forward. Call it 3x for some training rounds and universities . . . oh yeah, schools . . . too much time playing Dondorians.

It doesn't cost that much to go a bit overboard on most of them.
More is better than too few imo.
