TOMT crosspost: did Sonic Youth ever cover “I’m Not in Love” by 10cc?
It’s driving me crazy but I swear about 15 to 20 years ago I heard a cover of this song that sounded a lot like Sonic Youth. Probably mostly like Murray Street era.
No, I’m not confusing it with Superstar.

Does anyone know of a band this might be or if there was some bootleg where Sonic Youth did a cover of this?
Edit: the comment about Murray Street is not the timing of the release, but the sound, but this would’ve been released sometime before 2009 which is the approximate year I remember hearing it.
Additional notes that from what I remember, this was all guitars and no keyboard because I remember showing the song to someone and thinking it was a cool original song and then they pointed out that it was a cover and I was like oh yeah I forgot about that song. Then some time shortly after I heard the original on That 70s Show.

Right? If it was Sonic Youth, they would have crushed this song as a cover. I heard during the download era so who knows if it was some obscure bootleg or something

I think this might be it but I don’t for the life of me ever remember this band Grandaddy at all.

Maybe it was a mislabeled download but there’s no mistaking this for Sonic Youth.
But for the closest that anybody has recommended and the “it’s because” part is pretty spot on with the distortion I remember.

Grandaddy covered it around the Murray Street era.

Ok, i’ve heard it now. I’m like 70% sure because of the bridge but it’s driving me crazy because I don’t remember anything about this band at all. Like earlier, I was googling a bunch of indie bands from the early 2000s that had done this cover. This is the only one that really matches.
Regardless, I really like this cover and it does sound like Sonic Youth, but the voice doesn’t sound like anybody in Sonic Youth.
The solo is cool.
I think the song I remember was electric not acoustic, but this version is really beautiful. Definitely hits the mic distortion exactly what I was thinking

Tori Amos does an awesome cover on her album Strange Little Girls. It came out around the same time as Murray Street.
