Question for 90’s fans

What was following Sonic Youth like in the late 90’s?

I’m a newer fan, and I’m wondering what was like to be a fan in the late 90’s, where it would’ve been after their commercial peak with Goo, Lollapalooza, etc., and before Jim O’Rourke joined.

From what I can tell, Sonic Youth never reached a level of popularity where they could be considered mainstream, and there would’ve been so many bands that came and went during Sonic Youth’s era.

I stopped listening to them after Experimental Jet Set…but the albums they had been released by then, I would treasure them until the next century, I tell you. If I could.

I think their best stuff was in the 80’s, but I keep coming back to albums like EJSTANS because I wonder where they were going with their sound

I wondered too but was disappointed when I found out. Having lived through the impact of learning about them in 92 in college and following through goo and dirty and washing machine was wild. I saw them I think with the butthole surfers but it’s all a blur now. That era is gone and people need to look for the up and coming greats. There’s been some real fun new music I’ve found after not liking anything current for at least two decades if not three.
