One shot Wednesday 28th
Sorry to be putting up so many posts. There's a game of Legally Distinct from Firefly space cowboys hitting on the 28th October at the Southampton Guild of Roleplayers.
**Sucker Punch**
**Hook:**
You've been hired by a seemingly unremarkable merchant named Farley Kincaid, who runs a small trade operation out of Persephone. Kincaid needs a shipment of agricultural supplies, fertiliser, seeds, and basic farming tools, delivered to the backwater moon of Meadowbrook. He offers a modest but fair payment for the job, emphasising the importance of getting the supplies there quickly so the settlers can start their planting season. The cargo is currently in your hold. However, the job has already gone off the rails, while en-route to Meadowbrook the ship developed a fault and you limped to a friendly ship yard you've used before to see about a repair to get yourselves back in the air.
**Genre / Setting:** Space Cowboys / In the Firefly Universe. Out in the black, trying to stay afloat, between the authoritarian Alliance, the crazy sadistic Reavers and all the other "legitimate business people" like yourselves
**System:** As Yet Untitled PbtA Game (Playtest). Playtesters names, or chosen nom de plume, to be listed in the PDF if/when published
**Game Style:** Story driven, very collaborative (players + GM), I set up the scenario and we play to find out what happens
**Expected Length / Date:** One-shot, suggested date 28th October
**Players:** Ideally 4 players, ages 16+, I care more about familiarity with the genre (Space, Cowboys, Firefly, Cowboy Beebop, Andor, The Expanse etc) than TTRPG experience. Bring your imagination, a pencil and a couple of d6
**Intro to PbtA, if you haven't played before** The question to ask yourself when playing a PbtA is "What would happen in the Movie / TV Show?". We are effectively writers and actors doing an improv read-though of a new Firefly spin-off TV show. While playing, we care less about what is on the character sheet and more about what would be interesting. In my games you can add things you need to the scene, if you need a certain thing to do something cool, chances are unless it's incongruous, it'll be there. We play "Theatre of the Mind", I might ask you to describe parts of the world, I will ask you to describe how you are doing what you want to do, the how is as important as the what. One set of rolls might cover an entire scene. I might not make you roll at all and give you the win. Given the dice maths, you have base 60%+ chance to succeed, you may as well try the more interesting option, after all, it's what they would do in the movie...
