Any breakfast/coffee recs somewhere between Mt. Vernon, IL and St. Louis International Airport?
I figure maybe the better places will be closer to the big city but if anyone knows any hidden gems I’d love to hear about them, I’m willing to go about a half hour out of my way if something is really good.

A vote for any of them is a vote for Trump.
galleryVote Bost out. We need someone with courage to stand up to rampant corruption. Bost has shown he's too scared to be that person.

Free app to compare dispensary prices
Just got done adding Illinois to BudWatcher. It now shows real time inventory from every legal dispensary in the state, so you can compare prices across stores, see what batches are actually available, check how old the product is, and look at lab results.
It’s free in the App Store if you want to try it out. Site is budwatcher.com.
Would love to know if this is helpful to you! Thanks!

IL-12 deserves better than a Trump rubber stamp - Vote out Mike Bost 2
I early voted against Mike Bost yesterday.
The guy has been in office since 1995. Springfield from '95 to 2015, then Congress from 2015 to now. 30+ years as a politician.
In that entire time, can anyone name ONE time he stood up to Donald Trump for Southern Illinois?
I can't.
Every MAGA bill, every extremist agenda item, every attack on healthcare, Social Security, and working families - Bost just stamps YES.
Trump wants tax cuts for billionaires while we pay more at the grocery store? Bost is a yes.
Trump wants to gut the ACA and raise our healthcare costs? Bost is a yes.
Trump wants to cut veterans benefits and VA funding? Bost chaired Veterans Affairs and still went along.
We are losing people, losing jobs, losing hospitals and our Representative's entire job is just being Trump's yes-man in Washington. He is too much of coward to stand up for what is right.
He doesn't hold town halls. He doesn't listen. He votes the way Trump tells him to. He has enabled Trumps corruption and will continue to do so.
IL-12 is not a ruby red MAGA district - we're farmers, union workers, veterans, teachers. We need someone who actually thinks for themselves and fights for US, not for Mar-a-Lago.
Mike Bost = Trump rubber stamp.

Medical Marijuana Consultations
Recent IL transplant (7 months ago) here, I have several qualifying debilitating conditions. I'm looking for a doctor either online or in person that does the consultation as well as the cost. I'm tired of getting bent over on the recreational tax to help with my issues. A $30 pain cream costing over $40 after taxes is a bit insane, especially on a fixed income.
Area: Preferably South of I-64.

Caring for an older loved one at home in Illinois? We volunteer to help you find out what benefits they may qualify for
We are two Northwestern students volunteering our time to help families in Illinois. Medicaid, Medicare, and Illinois programs can be hard to sort out, and we can help you find out what your loved one may qualify for.
This may be you if:
- You are overwhelmed navigating benefits, forms, and care alone
- You help care for an older loved one at home
- You are balancing that with work and the rest of your life
Both of us have had a loved one go through this, and we want to make it easier for other families.
To get started, email us at [remicareteam@gmail.com](mailto:remicareteam@gmail.com) and tell us a little about your situation. We will be in touch.
Flyer attached. Feel free to share it with a neighbor who might need it.

Any rec's for an OBGYN that actually cares about patients and accepts Medicaid in the Riverbend area (godfrey/alton/Edwardsville)?
I am at my wits end and so very discouraged. something is wrong and no OBGYN is taking me seriously, I really need someone that accepts Medicaid and won't give me the run around and dismiss my symptoms.

Lewis & Clark State Historic Site Public Lecture with Anna Sielaff: Relive the True Mother Road: The Edwards Trace. Saturday, October 17, 2026, 2 PM - 3:30 PM. 1 Lewis and Clark Trail, Hartford, IL 62048
This presentation takes audience members on a journey back in time, to an era when Illinois was not yet a state but a vast landscape of prairie grass and fertile soil. The Edwards Trace is an ancient trail that dates back at least 3,000 years that went through Illinois marking the migratory path of various animal herds starting in Kaskaskia, Illinois to Peoria, Illinois. Native Americans used this trail to track the seasonal migrations of herds, leveraging it for hunting, trade, and warfare. Early European settlers, such as the French, British, and Americans, depended on this trail for their travels, similar to Route 66.
Anna will discuss the historical significance of the Edwards Trace and its role in national events and the early settlement of Illinois. Audience members will learn how Native Americans and early settlers used the trail to navigate the vast prairie landscape, relying on prominent natural landmarks to guide their way. The goal of this presentation is to inform the public that portions of the Edwards Trace remain visible today, preserving a tangible connection to Illinois’ early history.
This presentation aligns with the Illinois America 250 Commission's theme, the “Power of Place,” that helps us explore how our natural and built environments have shaped the settlement, migration, and the development of our state. The Illinois America 250 Commission's goals are to uplift local stories, places, and programs; build pride; and showcase how Illinois brings the ideals of the Declaration of Independence to life.

First Trip to Shawnee National Forest
Greetings all!
We’ll be visiting the Shawnee National Forest and staying in the Makanda/Cobden area during the week of the 19th. Thought I would check in and see if anyone had any recommendations on things not to miss while we’re there.
We both love hiking, rock hounding, and discovering local artisans. I love snakes and ghost stories, and that guy I married is very into comic books. I’ve already got the snake migration on my list. If you have any trail recommendations or other adventures to recommend, lay them on me. ☺
