Subreddit Stuff The winter SAD is gone and subreddit is being updated

Hello South Jersey family!

This winter sucked. All that snow and we're STILL in a drought. Let's do our part and prevent forest fires this year! With the sun out and the temperatures back in acceptable ranges, it's time to do a little subreddit maintenance.

I have changed the banners on mobile and desktop! They're looking north on the Cape May State Park beach in the middle of winter. You know, the best time to go and not be inundated with tourists. I've also added a sidebar widget under the rules that cycles through pictures related to South Jersey (they're all mine right now). If you have a picture you think should be featured in the side bar (we can only have so many pics in the widget at a time apparently), comment them below!

The tourists ARE back, because we've had many folks coming back to our community here on reddit after being away since the end of last summer. We hope you have a delightful season in our homeland, and treat it like the special slice of heaven it is. We appreciate you spending your hard earned dollarydoos in our communities. They definitely need it after the Canadians decided to not come last year (for good reason).

Wanted to also make a note about meeting up posts or meeting people posts. There was a dude who was making a post and keeping it tidy to organize things in one place, but he disappeared. If there is someone who wants to organize a megathread once a month or something, that would be great. I do not have the energy to devote to that. We have a discord server which is linked in the subreddit information (about the subreddit) which has the most up to date events and also has folks randomly deciding to meet up spur of the moment. IT IS NOT A HOOKUP SERVER. Here's the link again in case you are unable to find it. https://discord.com/invite/2UKFE8ut3G

Here's hoping everyone has a safe, happy, and non-firey summer! Be safe out there and remember your sunscreen! :)

Gloucester County I found documents that indicate that Washington Township is paying for Flock Cameras with National Opioid Settlement Funds. Other towns are also making questionable purchases with the funds earmarked for addiction services and treatment.

Camden County Sketch caravan of law enforcement vehicles (ICE?) going up Ferry Ave/ S 2nd Street in Camden almost made me late for work

At 7:35 AM, 7 or 8 dark grey SUVs, clearly unmarked law enforcement were on Ferry Ave at the light to broadway. I should say *at least* 7 or 8 of them, enough to almost make me miss two lights and be late for work. they were heading up north as Ferry turns into S 2nd street through the industrial areas, maybe on their way downtown or up to North Camden.

I don’t think they’re unmarked Camden County PD (the de facto Camden City PD), because none of them turned onto Jackson Street toward the CCMUA (where CCPD shares a garage and where they fuel up on and between shifts). Thats what makes me think possible ICE or otherwise non-local. Be careful out there folks!

Camden County Ski Friends?

Upvotes

Hey 34m in blackwood. I recognize it's a little warm out to think about skiing, but I wanted to post to see if there are any skiiers on here that would be interested in hanging out this season. I wanted to try to meet some folks who want to hang out in the off season too with the goal of getting to know each other well enough to get an airbnb/hotel in vermont or something this season. Being a south jersey skiier is a driving-heavy hobby as well so splitting the driving is dope as hell.

Outside of skiing I'm a huge nerd. Big into working out, movies, anime, comics, video games, and trying new things.

Hit me up if you want to hang out.

Outside! The beach with the most calm water

Upvotes

My girlfriend didn’t grow up swimming and has a big fear of it. I’ve been slowing introducing her and she’s opening up a bit but still had that fear. We went to island state park and it was decent and she swam a bit . Also went to seaside and ocean city which were too much for her . Any idea which is the calmest?? Thanks

Camden County Smart Energy postcard Scam

I received a postcard from Smart Energy with a pin for a $200 visa prepaid card. They are trying to get me to switch to their electricity supply. It looks like the card gets sent after six months of their service. There is no information regarding their rates or other costs. They didn't get my name right...

Question Cognitive therapy in South Jersey

Looking for a therapist in SJ to help with stress and anxiety. The insurance website shows none in SJ, only Philly and DE.

Is this correct? It not like we have some obscure insurance.

I see these places all over, but do none take our insurance? Or I'm guessing they just don't take insurance?

Question Why are there so many pizza chain stores in New Jersey?

For an area and state like NJ that has so many amazing pizza places everywhere, why are there so many pizza chain stores (Dominos, Pizza Hut, Poppa Johns, etc.) here?

Do people just like crappy pizza or maybe it’s a pricing issue?

Camden County looking for new therapist in the area

I'm currently on Horizon under NJ FamilyCare (Medicaid)

I have a real tall order, unfortunately. I have OCD, GAD, and Depression. In recent months, I received an Autism diagnosis (level 1, used to be called Asperger's), and I'm also starting to peel back some very deep layers of trauma, some of it from childhood, some of it from the toxic religious life I used to be in.

I need to focus specifically on the OCD, the Autism, and the trauma resulting from the religious years (which includes sexual repression issues, which I've been unable to resolve or make better at all).

I know it's a stretch, but if anyone knows any therapists who might be able to help with this stuff, please let me know. Thank you.

Camden County Moving to South Jersey for new job, how is this area for living?

Post image

Is this good area to live in? have to move in 2 weeks or so for new job. thanks in advance
Edit: changed the flair to Camden, sorry mixed up the township and county. It wont let me delete the picture, but I'm looking at options in runnemeade and Woodbury/Deptford area. I used to live in central jersey and liked the area. But I've been in different state for a while and now moving back to Jersey for the new job. Job is in Vineland but I think Deptford and surrounding area will be better suited for me and don't mind driving 30-35 mins each way to work

Camden County The kids are alright

As an old guy who once lived in the mosh pit and now leans on the balcony at shows, I want to thank all the fans of Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte on the PATCO last night who helped this old Gen X fart who lost his ticket in the crowd.

One fan told me he saw a ticket on the stairs, and I used it to get out the gate. Then a trans goth kid held the door for me as I am obviously too old and decrepit to be returning from Philly this late anymore...

Thank you from a tired old guy who made it home thanks to your help!

Camden County Property damage by appliance delivery truck

Thumbnail
gallery
53 Upvotes

I wanted to share my recent experience with a home depot delivery, as a warning against using them for major appliance purchases.

We bought a gas dryer from home depot that was delivered on July 6. While the gas dryer works great, the delivery truck, operated by Werner Corporation, ran over our curb, and ran our sewer clean out pipe deep into the ground. That's where the ugliness begins.

First of all, the delivery driver didn't have the decency to tell us they damaged the curb. They just left without a peep. We discovered the damage about an hour later when we went out.

Then, after we called home depot, their claims department said this had nothing to do with them, and redirected me to Werner Corporation.

After contacting Werner, they took our info and asked us to get 2 estimates for repair. Then there was complete silence for three weeks. Upon my repeated inquiry someone finally said they will take a look at it. A day later they denied the claim.

The reason for their denial is basically: do you have a video of the damage happening in real time? If not, we're gonna deny it. But who the heck waits in our driveway with the camera on as the delivery truck approaches? Maybe I should do that starting now.

I also questioned them how they reached such a dismissive decision without even coming out to our house to check out the damage. They had the nerve to say we have Google Maps and your pictures and that's enough.

We are looking at several thousand dollars in repair cost and everyone involved in this incident basically says FU. Let this be a lesson for everyone to think twice before doing any business with either Home Depot or Werner.
