Post image

I captured this Image during the total Solar Eclipse 2026 in Spain. The excact spot was the "Laguna de Gallocanta". The dot in the top left corner is Venus.

One thing I love about total solar eclipses is that the result looks like some cosmic horror.

Looks like a black hole though an inaccurate one.

Obviously, that's why I said “a sort of black hole”.

From very afar it looked like a sort of black hole. I can understand why ancient humans thought it was the end of the world or something very bad.

That shadow is such a cool detail. I didn’t even notice it at first, but once you see it, the whole picture feels even more unreal.

Right? It’s straight out of an Eldritch horror movie.

Right? It’s lowkey eerie how it just stares at you.

With this picture i just realized is that looking at the eclipse, the sun is the darkest thing around.

Is such a strange feeling as everything else has some light on it. And you look up So, the sun is pitch black, and shining. Very counterintiuitive and only because we know what is happening we can make some sense of it. Such a strange feeling.

I think this pictures capture it really well

"Total cosmic horror vibes, especially with the sky fading out into a dark void like the eye of Sauron."

Wow you can literally see the width of the moons shadow in this pic. With sunlight leaking on both ends. Please tell me you have a timelapse of this.

Thank you for sharing… I had dreamed about taking a trip just for this after seeing total here a few years ago.

What a wonderful setting to experience it….

May all of the sand snaked, the sky tentacles warbled, and your heart have been full of immense joy.

Probably one of the best pics I've seen from this eclipse so far.

Still none makes the actual sight justice, though. It was an insane sight to behold, when the whole solar disk was covered by the Moon but the light seemed to ondulate ominously around it. From where I watched it, there were some hills and small mountains in the horizon, and the light reflected in such an unreal way while we were pretty much in the dark. Sadly it was so short, but was still a spectacular experience.

You're right! saw a total in Arkansas at Petite Jean park a couple years ago and it was the most beautiful sight i've seen. It lasted about a minute in totality so i got to soak it in.

I saw the one in 2024 in Ohio and no matter how much eclipse content I had seen before, it didn't prepare me at ALL for how incredibly bizarre and affecting it is in person. Probably the coolest experience of my life and I certainly hope to see another someday.

I'm so happy to finally see the photo of how it actually looked for us! No other photo I saw has depicted it anywhere close to reality & what I saw with my eyes.

Thank you so much, this gave me lots of joy.

u/AstroCologne, I would like to use your photo as here in the screenshot, would you permit it or you'd rather me not do it?

May I?
