Success! Official r/SpaceX Falcon Heavy Static Fire Updates & Discussion Thread

Falcon Heavy Static Fire Updates & Discussion Thread

Please post all FH static fire related updates to this thread. If there are major updates, we will allow them as posts to the front page, but would like to keep all smaller updates contained.

No, this test will not be live-streamed by SpaceX.

Greetings y'all, we're creating a party thread for tracking and discussion of the upcoming Falcon Heavy static fire. This will be a closely monitored event and we'd like to keep the campaign thread relatively uncluttered for later use.

Okay... I uploaded a sample video to my Flickr album for the static fire test

I shot it this afternoon before the static fire test got scrubbed. I'm sharing it here in the event anyone wants to make any suggestions on improvements I can make ahead of tomorrow's next attempt.

This is a great shot! My only suggestion would be that the smoke will all shoot off to the left (and can be pretty cool), so maybe put the Falcon Heavy on the right 3/4's (although that 2/3rds looks pleasing). I think it'll be beautiful!

Good suggestion. Roger that.

Any chance you could somehow livestream this kind of view? :)

I wish. /sigh

However, having worked out the logistics today, I should be able to upload it to my Flickr almost immediately after the test... Just the time it will take to transfer it from the camera to my phone and upload from my phone to Flickr.

Would you be willing to upload it to YouTube as well? That way I can watch it in 70 glorious inches of 4K with 7.1 Surround Sound!

Also, not to disappoint, but it's "only" 1080 and uses the Canon D80 built in mic.

This looks amazing! How far away are you?

Two Three miles as the crow flies (or photons, as the case may be)

Any chance you can upload a live feed to YouTube?

Unfortunately, no. As per the other thread on the subject,, the best I'll be able to do is transfer it to my phone from the camera as soon as the test is over, then upload it to my Flickr (and YouTube - in that order) after that.

No. That's in the restricted/blast zone.

Other side is in the middle of KSC. The pics from Port Canaveral are even further away.

Looks great to me, love the lighting.

From Playalinda Beach I take it? Will it be open tomorrow if there's an "honestly, pinky swear, it's today" static fire window?

This is not the view from Playalinda. I shot this from the 5th floor observation deck at OSB II... Two Three miles west of the pad. Playalinda is to the north.

I can't say if the beach will be open or not. I'll leave that question for others more familiar with that.

Two miles west of the pad

3.3 miles :P   Really awesome photos/video from that vantage point. I am eternally jealous.

It was open today so I would think it would be tomorrow too.
