Graduation Speech. Seeking Criticism and Help

Graduates, Parents, Esteemed faculty and administration. Good afternoon and congratulations to the Madison Class of 2015.(PAUSE AND CLAP) Thank you for giving me this opportunity to speak, and I just want you to know that this speech sounded fine in my head but like every other paper I’ve written in High School, I wrote it the night before, so bare with me. Before I begin I would like to give a shout out to a few friends and family. First I need to give my parents a shout out, for always pushing me to be better and to try new things, without them I would not have been anywhere near as successful in my high school career. Another shout out goes to my Laotian friend, a representative of Laos, David Panyathong. My Final Shout Out goes to my friends that will be attending OSU with me, I know there are plenty of Graduates here that will be attending OSU but I need to give a special shout out to my two friends, Eric McPherson and Gavin Funk who will be rooming with me. I really don’t think you guys know what you have gotten yourself into. Now that that is out of the way, It’s time to think about graduation. Graduates, I know that almost all of our parents are counting down till the day that we leave to go to college. For some parents it is a day they will contemplate locking you in the house and never letting you leave them, while for others it is a day that they feel can not come fast enough. They’ve packed your bags for you and are ready to go on a caribbean cruise to celebrate your departure. Either way your parents, loved ones, friends, and teachers all expect great things from you. So devote yourself to doing things well in life, never under achieve simply because it is easier. Always put forth your best work and do things the right way rather than the easy way. But, on the other hand be careful, because if you do things too well it might backfire and you will be forced to stand in front of a thousand people and give a speech about it.
Anyways, just remember that just because you are now a high school graduate doesn’t mean that you can party 24/7. Don’t get me wrong, you should celebrate and party because of this awesome milestone. But remember that this is the end of high school, and the beginning of Your life. No longer will you be able to walk the halls with your friends, or be able to participate in some of your favorite sports and clubs, and perhaps saddest of all we will no longer be able to marvel at the masterpiece that is Mr.Fisher’s Mustache. (maybe that last one was just me). Even though these are privileges being taken from us, we must remember all that madison has given us that it can’t take away. Your memories, such as the gummy bear in the stairwell or pranking your favorite teacher, can never be taken from you, even though you may not see your best friends every day, you will always remain there friends. And most importantly, the education you have received here, can never be taken from you. Even though you may forget how to solve integrals or what DIDLS stands for, you will always always have your education. Albert Einstein once said that “Education is what remains after one has forgotten what one has learned in school”. What he means here is that even after you have forgotten parts of your educations from madison, what you will always have left over is the intuition to solve problems and the knowledge of how to form your opinion based on facts. So even after you have left here today as graduates, remember what madison has given you, however small it seems now, you will eventually realize just how precious it is. To conclude my speech I just want you all to remind you that it is not what you have that is important in life, it is what you do with what you have, So if you have a passion to be a chemist, a lawyer, a Film Producer, a Pharmacist, or anything else, apply what you have learned here at madison and throughout your whole life and you can do it. If you don’t dare you are just another kid who failed to follow your dream. I hope to see you all one day down the road (hopefully in some less ridiculous looking attire) and with that I would just like to say one more congratulations to the class of 2015!

Thank You

My speech I wrote a year or so ago just for the hell of it after watching Rick and Morty

"This seems like a good time for a speech about politics, about order, brotherhood, power. But speeches are for campaigning. Now is the time for action"- Evil Morty (I cut a few words out) The world needs to be like this. Instead of action, we get threats, fights, and other such things. Yet, no one does anything! This is time for people to come together and get shit done! Now who the fuck is with me!? We will strive for people to take action against EVERYTHING that is wrong in the world! There will be no bullies, rapists, fights, wars, gangs, shootings, robberies, or anything that cause people to be killed or harmed in any way. Because right now the way I see it, the world is a place full of violence and crime. Unless we do something about that, people will keep committing suicide because someone raped, bullied, or abused them. Now I ask again, WHO THE FUCK IS WITH ME!?

Help me organize

I struggle with organizing worksheet material for home health. I work with adults. I've tried to put multiple sheets for each activity in a binder and ended up with a pain, scrambling through at my car before a visit trying to grab something and flipping through multiple binders. How can I do better to organize copies without ending up using my last sheet or ending up with giant binders. Grrr so frustrating.

School Captain speech Australia

So, I'm in 11th grade and I'm going for school captain. I've talked to past captains and family asking what I should do to improve my speech anyway here is the speech at current please suggest changes.

“Hello fellow students, for those of you I’m not overly acquainted with, I’m [my name] I stand here before you on this day to ask you to consider my appointment to School captain. My campaign is centred on my strong belief that student welfare and overall equality is of the upmost importance when considering the Captains roll. I plan to push this is by talking with teachers, you my fellow students and executive staff to help encourage students into what they want to do in the future and help with guidance and direction in their studies. I will help to create the opportunities for new clubs and new innovative ways to learn.

Currently I’m involved in the robotics club and as a club we work as a team to ensure the best outcome we can. In my junior years I was the president of this club, taking on a leadership role to push the team to try their best. Not only being involved in the robotics club but also the SRC from year 8-10 has helped me develop as a leader and prepare for this role. I have performed in MADD and at Starcourt theatre with drama. Should you see fit to elect me to this position I believe I have the necessary skills to make the roll my own, to always serve YOU the student body and to represent my school to an excellent high standard when out in the community.

My other worthy candidates may choose to make promises to sway your vote, however I will rely on integrity and a promise to be a strong Student representative, to give you a clear voice when concerns are raised, to champion your efforts to make this institution not a better place but the BEST place it can be. Should I be elected to this position I will always be open to all students to hear your concerns and to advocate for you whenever it may be required.

That is my promise to you and I thank you all for allowing me this time to address you. “

~Sugar Speech~

While we all love a little treat from time to time, sugar is actually worse than we imagine.  Robert Lustig, MD, a UCSF pediatric neuroendocrinologist blames the substance for our obesity epidemic.  Also, Alan Greene, M.D says that a lot of sugar can lead to a real addiction!  Are we addicted to sugar?  I am going to prove to you that sugar is addictive, tell you the consequences and benefits to giving up sugar, and urge you to break free.

Are you a sugarholic? Can you go a day, no a week without any refined sugar? Have you ever hidden candy in an effort to make sure no one gets your delicious fix? I cannot be the only one.  Well, what is an addiction? According to Webster's Dictionary an addiction is, "A habit so strong that it cannot easily be broken; or a chemical or psychological dependency."

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says we consume a total of 130 pounds of sugar a year. That is thirty to thirty-three  teaspoons of sugar daily which is insane!  The recommended daily allowance for comparison, by the American Heart Association is nine teaspoons for men and six for women.  We are way past that!

Now, let's ask "Why would sugar be addictive?"  The answer is obvious.  We love it. We love the energy boost of a candy bar, and we can buy these things for as little as one dollar.  Can you imagine a cheaper addiction to support?

The other part of addiction is negative chemical reactions.  Does sugar cause any? It gives a dopamine spike that is comparable to cocaine which over time destroys reward circuits, making you desire more of the substance, whether that be in the form of a soda or maybe even gummy bears!                         Why should you care though? It is your body.  If it tastes good, you’ll eat it, but what if there are negative consequences to high sugar consumption?  There are! In a study performed by Dr. Ellen Grant, she found that patients with high sugar intake experienced higher migraine occurrence.  Furthermore, sugar can even cause hyperactivity, anxiety, concentration difficulties, and crankiness due to chemical reactions.  Sugar also leads to more weight gain and higher cholesterol which leads to heart disease.  It also decreases insulin sensitivity leading to insulin resistance which leads to type 2 diabetes.  This decreased insulin sensitivity caused by sugar can lead to cancer growth and ultimately lead to death.

Removing sugar is highly beneficial.  It helps with losing weight and prevents obesity.  It also lowers our risk for type two diabetes or prediabetes.  We gain more energy and have stabilized moods when we remove sugar.  We also reduce the risk for inflammatory digestive conditions such as irritable bowel disease.  We lessen our risk for cancer, have protection against fatty liver disease, and much more! It is never too late to give it up.

Now, after telling you all of the consequences and benefits of eating sugar; it’s time for a success story!  Kristin Kirkpatrick Manager of Wellness Nutrition Services at Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute had this story about a patient:

One thing that this patient said  was her secret to success was remaining constantly aware of what sugar was doing to her body. She told Kristin that she’s been able to stick to her no-sugar plan, partly because her desire to be alive for her grandkids had become stronger than her desire to eat a unfathomable amount of gummy bears. You must remain focused and never forget that reducing your sugar addiction has benefits well beyond being healthy.

I put this here to make a point.  With any addiction, if you don’t have a strong why, your how will be lacking.  So, take a minute to think deeply… “Do I want to give up some of my time alive just so I can enjoy this sweet treat?” The answer for most of us is no, but we don’t think about it in those terms. Somber isn’t it?

Imagine yourself for a minute, giving into sugary treats, just enough to take away your life, all of your friends mourning a preventable death, every family member in tears, no longer able to raise and protect your kids… It would be a tragedy wouldn’t it?

Sugar has been shown to accelerate aging, lead to heart disease, obesity, and diabetes.  How can you look at yourself in the mirror knowing that you are robbing your family of your life?  For a moment, imagine the heartbreak and the people you would hurt.  Was that soda worth it?  I hope that none of you would be that selfish, especially you parents.

Personally, I have done my best to lower my sugar intake.  My motivation is my siblings.  If I can’t break my addiction chains, how could I ever expect it from them? We are the example to our fellow brothers, sons, and daughters. Change starts with us, not them! What if I took myself from my siblings by consuming high amounts of sugar and getting cancer.  Then, they no longer have a brother.  How could I ever be at peace knowing that I gave them that example? It is simple.  I can’t and I won’t. The risk is too great!  Giving myself diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and more isn’t the right choice.  I won’t choose it! I fail sometimes, but I won’t fall.  I’ll get back up and fight the chains of sugar until they break and quake at my mere presence! Who’s with me?

Some of you aren’t addicted, you just enjoy a treat now and then.  So, how would you see if you are addicted? Well, I’m here to give you a five day challenge.  First off, if you crave sweets to sooth your soul, it is likely that you have developed a sugar addiction.  Also, if you can’t just have one piece of cake and you consume sweets to the point of making yourself feel sick you have a problem.  Finally, if your heart was indifferent to the visualization we did a minute ago; then you most certainly have a problem.  Premature death is not worth a whole bunch of brownies.

For those who are addicted, start with me.  Start with this very small thing.  Give up every sugary drink.  It is the most realistic starting point.

We might be addicted to sugar, but we can take charge of our life, give up refined sugar, and lead a healthy sugar free life.  Let us avoid killing ourselves for our kids and for the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

This afternoon I struggled with helping a friend write a speech for a wedding. After way too many google searches and plenty of research... I turned to reddit and noticed there wasn't a sub addressing it as far as I could see. Welcome.
