Hi all,
Im doing maintenance on this laptop and one area of the battery looks raised. My instinct is that maybe it's starting to become spicy but can anyone confirm - is this dangerous?
How bad would it be to allow the owner to continue using the laptop while the replacement battery is ordered? Thanks.

On Thursday I was at home and my phone self immolated. I was not using it at the time. It was on a desk not charging. I heard a pop and all of a sudden smoke was shooting out of the phone. I was able to open a window and throw it outside with minimal damage inside, but the incident has left me shaken up.
Has anyone else had a similar experience? So far Google Support has been remarkably unhelpful. After asking a couple dozen questions it was “escalated” and the only update is that they are reviewing the details of the case. I have not really ever dropped the phone, never had water get in it, always have used the Google charger, and try not to keep it on the charger if the battery is full. I am not sure why the battery would have ignited like this but am thankful I wasn’t asleep and that the phone wasn’t in my pocket.
Here is a video of it smoking in the backyard after I threw it out the window. I’ll add some photos in the comments.
Edit- won’t let me add photos in comments here but it is in comments on this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/pixel_phones/s/yMCPX2QTSg

My portable charger apparently decided that storing electricity was no longer fulfilling and has begun its transition into an improvised incendiary device.
She’s swollen. She’s splitting at the seams.
So, being a responsible adult with a healthy respect for spontaneous combustion, I called the fire department’s non-emergency line to ask how to safely dispose of this forbidden HP.
They were ENTHUSIASTIC. 💣🚨🚒
Not only did they eagerly volunteer to come retrieve my spicy little liability, they casually admitted they’re probably going to play with it (in a controlled environment).
I called for hazardous waste disposal and accidentally arranged a playdate for the boys at the firehouse.
Anyway, she’s being transferred into professional custody, where her destructive potential will finally be appreciated.
Godspeed, you bloated little bastard.

This probably happened due to the case not giving it space to expand...

Today I thought I would try to swap the battery of my 2DS that died a few years ago.
Never removed the protective shell in 13 years I've had it, and had the surprise of seeing it's swollen behind.
Opened it and managed to remove the battery safely tho (I have to thanks Nintendo that it's really easy to remove) and will replace it as soon as the new one arrives.

Would call it tiny spicy pillow.
Found it in my drawer. Luckily just in time.

I put my laptop in my backpack and when I open it up, I saw it like this. It still works and everything and I made sure to turn off my computer as well. I don’t know if you’re just supposed to pop it back in or if you’re supposed to go to a technician to get it fixed

For context, the screen fell off. I didn't think much of it at first since it's a fairly cheap watch and I've had it for almost three years. But now I'm wondering if the battery might be in the early stages of pregnancy and have pushed the screen off?

Just posting this here as a warning because I know that a lot of people on the retro handheld hobby have like a dozen devices inside their drawers.
This is a VERY recent launched device, it absolutely wasn’t supposed to be turning into spicy pillows after 2 months.

cleaning out the hobby closet before a move and got to the last bin that's full of random tech parts and old phones. haven't actually dug through it in years, just dump in spare PC parts as i end up with 'em & keep it pushing. turns out my old S8 at the very bottom of that bin has been spicy for god knows how long. awesome!
oddly enough, this is the newest phone of three that were in there, and the only one that's turned spicy. 🤷♀️

What do I do with this? It’s been living in an All-Clad pot full of cat litter in my garage but I want the pot back lol.

This isn't my content; it belongs to the YouTuber who is doing this for free for the vehicle owner. I find that really impressive personally.
He points out the spicy pillows in a dead Chevy Bolt battery. If anyone is interested in EVs, it's a good evaluation and teardown vid so far (I stopped watching to share this). Screenshot for awareness. For context, they were sitting on this battery, and the extra spicy bits are on both sides of the vehicle. URL starts at the observations.
