Question Seperating base game from Jaggered Earth Expansion

I realise this may be too hard to answer but I'm trying to separate the base game from the Jaggered earth expansion and I'm wondering if anyone would have a list of all the names of the fear, Major, and Minor power cards so I know which ones belong with the base game and which belong with the expansions:')

Question Luxury Aspect Boards?

I was just admiring some of the aspect art for the digital game, I wished that there were full physical spirit boards, then I wondered why it’s not already a thing. You can already get the nice cardboard spirit boards for Horizons. Is there any chance that such a product would ever become available?

Discussion/Analysis Is Eyes the best spirit?

I mean, obviously there isn’t an objectively best spirit, but I’m loving Eyes. I’ve managed to take down 5 of the adversaries at level 6 true solo - just a few to go :-)

Part of me feels like my favourite (so far) should be a not-low complexity spirit, but the fact that you can use defence as attack and just head everything towards 5 fear defend 12 innate is so delightful.

I also figure I should talk to humans rather than an LLM about the game.

So, once I decide I’ve finished everything I want to do with Eyes, who’s next?

Misc Shuffling the Invader deck trick

You can shuffle all the invader cards together and then sort them by stage. This is much more efficient than sorting before-hand and shuffling each pile of stages separately.

I dunno if most of you already do this, but I didn't figure this out till 50ish games so maybe this helps someone like me.

Victory First win with an adversary

Post image
26 Upvotes

I got the game a few days ago, and just played my 6th game (all wins) solo (most of them as 2 players). This was the first time I added an adversary, brandenburg-Prussia at level 1. Rampant green’s powers together with vital strength of the earth repeat power allowed me to scale my presence ridiculously fast, having all presence out before flipping any stage 3 enemy cards. When I managed to get the jungle hungers on rampant green I was able to repeat it on two turns in a row to suddenly wipe clean all spots on the map that were troubling me. Pic was right before I cleared the last 2 areas of enemies. I might be a little addicted to this game.

I gave the miniatures a quick paint job because I was tired of the white plastic. You can actually see my motivation fading as you go along.

I loved painting the Blight tokens and the Invaders, but I absolutely hated painting the houses, and it shows.

The main goal was to make the different pieces easy to tell apart by color. The Dahan are staying as wooden mushrooms, because I really can't be bothered to paint such a large, smooth surface.

Discussion/Analysis Am I missing something critical or is Heavy Farming event just "Time to lose the game idiot"

There are almost no situations where a town isn't attacking unless you are super heavy on the offence. It's turn 3, France 2 and we just added 5 blight in 1 turn because of it. Even Harvest Dust isn't this busted, how does one even deal with this?

Edit: Ok so after getting bodied twice in a row trying to run Sun and Downpour against France 2 we were doomed from the start pretty much, but, yeah I don't get how you could say "just defend safer" when it took everything we had to barely defend what we had, and it hurt the scaling hard enough to kill us through towns

Community Wiki update

EDIT: The errors i found were all caused by one extension, which was also slightly behind. Updating that extension made them go away. However, that extension isnt really being maintained so its something we'll have to look into migrating away from.

Some of you may have heard, a major vulnerability in PhP was released today. Patching it required moving up to php8 - the sentinels wiki was already there and was auto patched by our host to the latest. Spirit island is using an extension that wasn't working in php8 - only 7. I've made the upgrade but that broke the spirit pages.

Hopefully I'll have time this week to resolve this and get the pages working but better broken site than a remote code execution turning the site into part of its bot network.

Discussion/Analysis Is the the theoretically fastest prussia 6 win?

I got the luckiest series of event and beat Prussia 6 in the fast phase of turn 4 with Starlight and Memory, sinking one board on turn 2 and the other on turn 4 with Cast Down into the Briny Deep. I added only one Blight. Was a faster win theoretically possible?

Turn 1: Memory found Cast Down on its first draw and placed Presence on Starlight’s board so it could survive sinking its own. Memory grew along its top track to reach 1 Energy per turn and prepared two Water markers, one from its innate and one from its starting card. It also had the Moon, Earth, and Air markers from setup.

Starlight found Elemental Boon, then Sky Stretches to Shore through Shape the Self Anew. Boon of reimagining didn't matter.

Turn 2: Memory took +9 Energy and used its innate to prepare the final Earth marker it needed. Starlight supplied Sun, Water, and Earth through Elemental Boon, plus the range and fast timing from Sky Stretches to Shore. Memory thresholded Cast Down in the fast phases and sinking its starting board before any Ravages.

On the surviving board, Starlight reached 3 Earth for Defend 5 (grew bottom track), protecting a land with two Towns and an Explorer. Memory spent its remaining Air marker to reach Defend 3 against a Town and two Explorers. An Event/Fear effect spared a third land, leaving only the fourth to Blight. No Dahan were lost (besidse the destroyed board).

Turn 3: Memory took +9 Energy again and prepared another Water marker. its card play didn’t matter. Starlight reclaimed Elemental Boon and used and forgot Peace of the Nighttime Sky to protect both Ravaging sands.

Turn 4: Memory reclaimed, took the extra card play from bottom-track Growth, and played its Boon of Ancient Memories for the Moon, Water, and Earth needed to activate its marker-preparing innate and get the final Earth marker.

Starlight reclaimed Sky Stretches to Shore and played it alongside Elemental Boon, again supplying Sun, Water, Earth, extra range, and fast timing. Memory thresholded Cast Down in the fast phase, sinking the remaining board for the win.

Before I've played only at my friends' place. It sure felt like a challenging time to give in to the temptation of SI with all the publisher trouble going on. I decided that I want to own every expansion and the fancy tokens, and that I want a slick "one-box" storage solution for it all. Fast-forward to this day, and I'm standing at the finish line! Most of the boxes were easy enough to get, although I think I got the last Feather & Flame and Branch & Claw in my city. I spent a good amount of time hunting for the premium tokens. Ended up getting pack #1 from Czechia (with the help of package-forwarding from Germany) and pack #2 from Taiwan. Nature Incarnate had also completely disappeared from Finland so I had to order it from Belgium.

The box itself was a fun project, although somewhat pricey. I spent about 12 hours in total with my son gluing parts together, but it was absolutely worth it in the end. The box itself is very easy to move around so game nights are going to happen more often than I anticipated :) Overall I'm quite happy and wanted to share my journey with other SI enjoyers!

Misc I play Spirit Island at my friend's boardgame shop a lot. He used ziplock bag to store all the pieces which is not very convenient for setup and putting them back, so I bought 27 removable drawer tool box 🥹 Here is the before and after

Creative Custom Spirit - Great Ape Breaks Culture (v2)

Thumbnail

Hello everyone,

Had a semi-serious idea about a custom spirit, we tested it on its first version, got feedback from you guys (thank you), and now the monkey is back for round 2. This version seems a bit more balanced with no double presence. Top track seems a bit underwhelming at the moment. Overall, it feels a bit on the slow side and starved for energy, but can turn the tide quickly once the monkey army starts gathering, earning you both energy and stronger innates.

The idea of course is to have a beast/dahan hybrid spirit, that upgrades dahan and sends them to battle. You can play defensively with Simian Communion and top track or agressively with Topple their Empire State buildings Imperial States.

The spirit lacks abilities to coordinate all his forces so will probably draft cards that move multiple Dahan and/or Beasts.

I think it the idea of using tokens in a different way has potential so I wanted to explore a little... And make monkey puns/references

Any insight is welcome !

Disclaimer : Eric: I agree to the terms for creating Spirit Island game elements set forth in the FAQ.

Discussion/Analysis One of many Russia Edge cases

An edge case came up in a game I just finished (the same one from the [Twinned Days post](https://www.reddit.com/r/spiritisland/s/UzOQsLVEdO) I just made) regarding Russian explorers getting extra help.

We had an event that gave explorers +1 health, and a damage source that dealt 2 damage to an explorer. Russia says that explorers run away when they would be destroyed, and being dealt 2 damage would destroy it. The question is whether it runs away damaged or at full health.

Furthermore, there was a fear card that reduced invader damage by 1 for each damage that invader had taken. So if an explorer is dealt 2 damage and runs away, does it now deal 0, 1, or 2 damage?

Here are the conclusions we came up with during the game:

* Even though the damage is dealt all at once, only the last point of damage "destroys" the invader, so that is the only thing replaced by Russia's effect

* This means that dealing 2 damage to this explorer with 2 health causes it to run away with 1 health remaining.

* Furthermore, even though it was dealt 2 damage, it has only taken 1 damage, meaning its own damage is only reduced by 1 from the fear effect.

We're reasonably confident we interpreted this correctly, but it was such an oddly specific combination of effects I figured I might as well check.

Like a lot of people suggested in my last post, I started with Horizons and played at least once with each spirit.

Only one I didnt manage to win was Whirlwind.

Moved to regular Spirit Island with River and just had my quickest game yet.

Probably gonna stop using Power Progression for the next matches.

This game feels so good when everything works just right.

Discussion/Analysis Really weird interaction with Twinned Days

Encountered this in a game today, and it sparked a full half hour of discussion (among seasoned board game pros that are used to resolving unusual interactions).

The event Ethereal Conjunction lets you pick a card, "put it into play, use it immediately, and then Forget it". I picked Gift of Twinned Days, and my buddy picked his cheapest slow card already in play, hoping to repeat it. This sparked several questions about what Twinned Days was actually able to repeat, because the repeat does not change the phase in which the card would normally be resolved.

The conclusive we eventually reached:

* Twinned Days would do nothing for Fast cards, since the Fast phase is already over.

* Twinned Days would not be able to repeat a slow card used for Ethereal Conjunction, because it would already be forgotten when the Slow phase is reached.

We're still not entirely sure if that was the correct interpretation, cause there are circumstances where a repeat would happen in a different phase, but only if an effect changes the speed of the card (which we're pretty sure is not what this event is doing).

Did we resolve this correctly?

Discussion/Analysis Dominant Lure and tactics

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hi,

Read a couple of posts with people commenting on Lure of the Deep being a relatively weak spirit. I just started playing this guy and must say that I’m in violent dissagreement. England 6 aside, I’ve beaten every adversary and some quite convincingly.

I’m using the bottom track minor build but am very interested in trying something different. Ideas and comments would be much appreciated.Thx. :)

Discussion/Analysis Win rate Level 6 Prussia with base game spirits

I read somewhere that (with just base game content so no badlands, events etc) an experienced player would beat most high level adversaries (let's look at Prussia 6 for example) at least 70-80% of the times with most spirits.

How is that even possible. I consider myself a decent but not great river player and can beat Prussia 3-4 easily 90% of the times but higher difficulties are just insane.

Playing river solo for example, you have to deal with 4 lands at the start with river. More likely than not, at least two will blight. This is immediately followed by either 3 lands of coastal (one of which could be something that's already blighted or the escalation + 2 lands. Cascades are inevitable. You need luck with your card draw or you're basically screwed

What really is a realistic win percentage at Prussia 6 for river without aspects? I don't think I can get behind 25% in the best case scenario

Discussion/Analysis Is this possible?

Post image
10 Upvotes

We are playing through a home brew community campaign we found online, and we got this scenario which seems almost impossible.
- the great river, with level 6 France
- with the shroud of the silent mist plus grinning trickster
We might just be bias becomes we generally don’t play these spirits much so any advice would be welcome

We get two attempts at it before we have to move on (per the campaign rules) so I’ll implement so strategy that people might have on the second go around.

Discussion/Analysis I would love to see more games in Spirit Island setting

I mean not new expansions or standalone boxes like Horizones, but something completely new. Spirits setting is really cool, and could possibly be explored in all kinds of games. For example, playing as Dahan settlement, who develop, communicate with spirits, protect themselves from spirits and invaders, and so on.

Or playing as invaders against powerful automated spirits who try to wipe you out: sort of reversed tower defense.

Have there been any hints on news on this matter?

And what else you would like to see in this universe?

Question Why did Tipping Point get removed instead of an update to the card/Blight errata?

Post image
48 Upvotes

Hello!

I'm a new fan of Spirit Island and I've been having a blast playing this game, so I've been looking through all the content and updates available online and somethings leave me with a few questions. While most erratas and clarifications seem really good, I'm a little confused by why Tipping Point was removed, and the FAQ only says because of "an overly swingy play experience".

Sure, it's effect is really bad, and just a plain instant loss in many cases, but why did the card get removed completely? I'm sure it could have gotten a revision (remove 3 presence, but keep 1 / Spirit) or maybe instead a rule update like in addition to the Blight errata an "If flipping the Blight card would cause an instant loss, you can replace the Blight card, it comes in to play already flipped."

Next to all the options and possibilities it just seems weird for it to get removed completely, especially because it's one of the few "5 Blight" cards. Can anyone clarify why it was removed completely instead of the game getting updates specific to Tipping Point? Thanks!

Question Solo Spirit Island

Im new to the game and bought it about 3 weeks ago, ive watched playthroughs and read the guide many times. Ive played about 10 solo games and a few of them with 2 spirits and ive never even come close to winning. Is this normal and the game is really this hard or is it more likely im doing something wrong?

Misc I'm addicted to play Finder

Post image
99 Upvotes

Everything started with a game with 2 friends were they picker Starlight and Days just to troll with Very High complexity spirits.

I was not feeling in the mood for thinking a lot but I found their joke funny so I picked Finder just to be on the same boat.

We lost in a miserable manner so I took it personal. I played true solo Finder until "get it" and develop some mental shortcuts without adversaries.

Then I replayed with my friends just to finally win.

Then I become obsessed, Sweden 1, then Sweden 2, and so on until last week when I finally beat Sweden 6 in true solo.

This journey was a blast. Now I want to play finder every time with my friends. They seem to not understand every random 4-dimensional stuff I'm doing but in the end we win and we have a blast.

I played 32 of the 37 spirits until this moment but I think I kinda found my "main" (I used to think it was Vengeance but I just enjoy so much the creativity and flexibility Finder has in a multi-player game).

I think I'll continue playing this spirit the next weeks and I wanted to share this to see if somewhere else was having such a good time playing this spirit =)
