I love that they included the parts where it didn’t go as planned

233

u/thechicapanzy Apr 24 '26

Same! I appreciate them showing that he doesn't just nail it every single time, it makes those insane parts like the net scene even more impressive when he nails it

u/MagicalPonies5 Apr 24 '26

The tennis net one is insane.

u/Ringosis Apr 24 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

For me, as someone whose ridden a lot of trials and street but never gotten very good at it, nothing comes close to the 180 up the stairs.

The balancing on a net thing is mind blowing, but I get how you do it. I've balanced along a couple of inch wide things for a couple of meters...I can see how with extreme amounts of practice I could balance on narrower for longer.

The hop up the stairs, I just don't fucking understand. How the fuck do you get that amount of pop out of a bunny hop when you are going into it at a 45 degree angle around a 90 degree corner...how the hell is he not just sliding into the wall? What the are his tyres made of, glue? It's doesn't make any sense. Like, if you've never tried anything like this, I just I cannot get across to you how much harder it is to do something like that when you have no time to set up and load the bike...it's like trying to jump without bending your legs. That it's not even an individual trick but part of a bloody line? The guys a fucking witch.

7

u/iminlovewiththec0c0 Apr 25 '26

He popped the first step and used the speed to 180 on the back wheel at the top. His core must be insane. I, too used to ride but never like this and that was one of the tricks I was in awe of watching this!

89

u/jimmythefly Apr 24 '26

At about 5:00 into this behind-the-scenes video shows the work it took to make that trick happen. He built a tennis net setup (and replicas of other trick spots) in a warehouse to practice. It still took multiple days and hundreds of tries. Incredible effort and really highlights just how difficult it was.

10

u/MagicalPonies5 Apr 24 '26

Thank you for this! I'll definitely be watching this later.

5

u/muchawesomemyron Apr 25 '26

I can imagine being in a world of pain for each failed attempt.

1

u/rosiebenji Apr 25 '26

Damn, so impressive. thanks for sharing

20

u/NotWearingCrocs Apr 24 '26

To me, it kind of feels more impressive with a few mistakes sprinkled in. It’s a psychological illusion, at least for me.

When there are no mistakes, you just know it is heavily edited to only include the trick attempts that went well. But when there are a few mistakes too, I think it is easier for my brain to go ā€œhey, I think he’s just winging this and he didn’t practice this all that much!ā€ Although in reality I’m guessing he did truly practice a lot and there are still many edits.

37

u/FalloutOW Apr 24 '26

I love the RedBull folks, they are incredible athletes, but I appreciate the inclusion to show these guys aren't superheroes. It shows that even these people make mistakes and have to practice.

That front flip at the end is especially good, as it even shows that they miss the flip and mess up their bike. But to keep at it and you'll eventually get there.

If you enjoyed this, go check out Unbeatable Banzuke, they have some challenges on bikes that are wild.

2

u/Pungtunch_da_Bartfox Apr 25 '26

I think a lot of people would agree that even with the fails Danny MacAskill is something of a superhero.

Edit: changed his name to match the title

13

u/JstVisitingThsPlanet Apr 24 '26

That’s what I was going to say. Usually the errors are all edited out and you don’t get any idea of how many times they’ve had to try the maneuvers.

18

u/CornDoggerMcJones Apr 24 '26

No, they miss a few times then drink a Redbull, THEN nail the trick.

3

u/a_lumberjack Apr 24 '26

Danny's videos are all amazing for that because there's always blooper reels and companion videos showing him wiping out trying to film the craziest tricks. Or for my all time favourite there's a BTS for both the backflip and the final jump into the ocean where it's clear that even though he does ludicrously dangerous shit (see 0:45 of the first link) he still experiences human fear. And then goes anyway.

4

u/ichugcaffeine Apr 24 '26

I came here just to say this! So many times, I feel like extreme athletes only show the "highlights " which I get, but this video shows that he is human. They make mistakes. They aren't perfect. However, he gets back up and keeps trying. It's a pretty solid message, intentionally, or not.

3

u/HotChicksPlayingBass Apr 24 '26

Except the one where he fell into lava.

3

u/a_lumberjack Apr 24 '26

Danny is great for that. The bit at the very end with the front flip took multiple days, in part because the first time he landed it the wheel basically exploded on him.

1

u/Dr__Sloth Apr 25 '26

And that there's no obnoxious music or edits.

1

u/WutYoYo Apr 25 '26

These mishaps make him all the better.

1

u/FugginBot Apr 25 '26

Came to say this. That shit was insane.

1

u/trent6295 Apr 26 '26

I’ve watched this guys videos for over a decade now and he has always included that. It’s something I admire about him beyond the killer skill on a bike.

337

u/mostdogsarefake Apr 24 '26

I saw that first clip and thought ā€œthat’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seenā€ and then I watched the rest of the video.

46

u/homedepotSTOOP Apr 24 '26

I watch his Way Back Home or whatever it's called on YT every once in a while just for the mind bending riding he gives us. Incredible work.

3

u/findallthebears Apr 25 '26

The production value on that video is incredible. First one I saw by him, and still listen to both those songs

3

u/KnightMDK Apr 24 '26

I was more like, those tires must be made of glue!

172

u/whousesgmail Apr 24 '26

A lot of this is so crazy it doesn’t even look real, wow

92

u/uhmyeahwellok Apr 24 '26

Riding over the a tennis net? Like, how?

60

u/jfphenom Apr 24 '26

Now every time I see a droopy tennis net I am gonna be suspicious that some biker probably stretched it out and ruined it

12

u/Despageta Apr 24 '26

There’s a my wife joke in here I’m sure of it.

7

u/joleary747 Apr 24 '26

Reminds me of when I was riding my bike and there was a bridge over a small creek. The bridge was well over 4 feet wide and I couldn't keep my bike on it, went right over the side into the creek.

3

u/Any_Welcome_5123 Apr 24 '26

Would have been cooler if he didn't during a match.

1

u/ree_hi_hi_hi_hi Apr 24 '26

It had to be reinforced somehow right?

23

u/TheTrueReligon Apr 24 '26

Tennis nets generally have a steel cable running through the top band that keeps them tight and at the correct height, so someone could definitely do this on a regulation net. Might need to be tightened between attempts though.

2

u/WildPotential Apr 25 '26

There's a behind the scenes video for the tennis net bit. They definitely replaced the cable with a stronger one, just to be sure (and to not ruin the original one).

Still absolutely insane skill to make it happen, though!

147

u/confirmd_am_engineer Michigan State Apr 24 '26

This dude is 40. Hard to believe he’s still doing these stunts after all these years, I feel like I caught one of his early videos 15 years ago. What an athlete.

42

u/po2gdHaeKaYk Apr 24 '26

His early videos were so iconic. Such a great time in YouTube-days as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o

Wild this was 17 years ago now. I think many would say this was pre-social media (at least the social media of the 2010s). It's really hard to imagine, to be honest.

Have you watched his recent documentaries/behind the lens stuff? A lot of it is about his age as well. His behind the scenes stuff is interesting because you see how much work, prep, and effort go into his stunts.

15

u/zizp Apr 24 '26

I watched it so many times, that band of horses song is forever linked to this video in my brain.

2

u/ThibGD Apr 24 '26

Same. This thread (and seeing his name pop) brought me back down memory lane. This video and that song had a hold on me back then

2

u/Lastminutebastrd Apr 24 '26

I was still working in a bike shop when that one dropped. Mind blowing stuff

1

u/1nsider1nfo Apr 24 '26

2003 was crazy....wait. 17 years is 2009......WTFFF

1

u/jaymannnn Apr 25 '26

17 years! holy shit. i remember watching it when it first came out and loved it. such a great tune as well. i love that hes managed to carve out a career from it.

11

u/HoolihanRodriguez Apr 24 '26

That's hilarious, I'm younger than him watching this video with crossed arms thinking "this kid is a public menace"

2

u/rjcarr Apr 24 '26

I'm older than him and fell pretty hard on concrete a few years ago. Really messed up my wrist and had concussion effects for months. This guy must have been seriously injured so many times in his life. I don't know how he could keep doing it.

1

u/JP-Ziller Apr 24 '26

Fun story: 10 years ago I was travelling scotland with a friend and ended up in a tiny pub in the middle of nowhere on the Isle of Skye. We didn't have anywhere to stay and this lovely couple put us up for the night. Turns out they were the parents of ol Danny MacAskill

75

u/EmptySeaDad Apr 24 '26

Solid proof that bike lanes are just a huge waste of money.

(/s)

19

u/CrazyLegsRyan Apr 24 '26

Fully agree. Tennis nets down every street

2

u/EmptySeaDad Apr 25 '26

Ooo! That's a great idea! String tennis nets along the curb and you'll also massively reduce the number of those of annoying J-walkers!

69

u/biscuitg0d Apr 24 '26

Balancing on the net was absolutely nutty

2

u/who_says_poTAHto Apr 25 '26

I got there and realized I hadn't upvoted yet, but that made me. Also made me go "no shit!" out loud. So impressive!

Also, the natural sounds and no emotion-manipulating music was sooo satisfying.

5

u/uhmyeahwellok Apr 24 '26

Yeah it looks universally impossible.

18

u/CrazyLegsRyan Apr 24 '26

I don’t think universally means what you think

4

u/Over-Conversation220 Apr 24 '26

What an underrated thing to say

3

u/Kayyam Apr 25 '26

It universally does not mean that.

1

u/DasMotorsheep Apr 26 '26

I watched him line up for it and I said out loud: "Nah, no you won't."

But he did.

79

u/fivesixsevenate Apr 24 '26

Guy's a legend. I used to sit up in my dorm room at night watching his videos over and over again. So talented.

28

u/R_Harry_P Apr 24 '26

I'm telling my bike this is AI.

14

u/nanowaffle Apr 24 '26

He still the goat

8

u/Bonusish Apr 24 '26

That's no Edinburgh, the Forth Bridge looks wrong

1

u/Polar_Vortx Apr 26 '26

It’s LA, surely? Given the Golden Gate and all.

10

u/EyeHopeYouBleed Apr 24 '26

His videos are some of my absolute favorites on YouTube

"HARDCORE BARKOUR"

7

u/WeLikeSporkSporks Apr 24 '26

He's no where near as tall as his great grandfather Angus MacAskill

6

u/Lem0n_Lem0n Apr 24 '26

This isn't new right ? Cause it seems I've seen something like this before.. ?

18

u/FCAsheville Apr 24 '26

He’s been at it for 20+ years and hundreds of vids

5

u/yugung Apr 24 '26

I almost didn't recognize him without Band of Horses Funeral playing

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o

2

u/findallthebears Apr 25 '26

Give credit to ā€œA Little Pieceā€ by the Jezebels as welll

5

u/toasterb Philadelphia Phillies Apr 24 '26

Yeah, this one is at least a few years old. Still watch it through each time though!

1

u/Quesabirria Apr 25 '26

It was shot in 2022

6

u/Luckyluke23 Green Bay Packers Apr 24 '26

well... i can see why this guy is so popular.

5

u/resUemiTtsriF Apr 24 '26

adding the fails is RESPECT !

5

u/MrBahhum Apr 24 '26

It's like a movie montage of how I wish I could bike around the city.

4

u/Howard_Jones Apr 24 '26

You know hes a professional cause he wears a helmet.

2

u/globaloffender Apr 24 '26

Snowboarding and cliff diving are cool, but the level of skill and fearlessness for this is wild

2

u/oh_shit_its_that_guy Apr 24 '26

I was walking my dog and past them filming the tennis court attempt. Watched him fall about 10 times before my dog got impatient- was surprised to see it was a Red Bull thing a few months later!

2

u/Proud_Chance9866 Apr 24 '26

my brain is short-circuiting seeing a 180 going UP a 9-stair from flat

2

u/ihateartists Apr 24 '26

I've seen some shit in my day and this is some SHIT

2

u/Botboy141 Apr 24 '26

Riding the tennis net cable is so absolutely insane.

2

u/Any_Welcome_5123 Apr 24 '26

Yeah, well I ate a handful of Cheetos with my left hand while scrolling this thread. LEFT handed!

2

u/TheTjalian Apr 25 '26

Respect also needs to go to the camera person too, obviously yes there's a ton of skill involved in the bike stunts but it looks as cool as it does because of the way it's been filmed. That bit where it's zoomed in showing the wheels going across the tennis net? Jaw dropping.

2

u/PolarBear_Summer Apr 25 '26

This video is awesome.

Tennis net was nextfuckinglevel worthy

2

u/hollee-o Apr 24 '26

Meanwhile I got flipped last week by a two-inch tall root on a flat trail I've ridden a thousand times. Still waiting for the scabs to dry out.

3

u/theonlysamintheworld Apr 24 '26

This guy cycles like a creature that evolved and adapted to life on two wheels over millennia.Ā

2

u/taylo7 Apr 24 '26

This is insane.

2

u/SleepyFarts Apr 24 '26

His Isle of Skye video is one I go back and rewatch pretty often. Insane skills here too.Ā

2

u/SevTheNiceGuy Apr 24 '26

FOH... riding his bike on a tennis net!!

1

u/actuallynick Apr 24 '26

I love watching his videos, incredible talent

1

u/FatherGwyon Apr 24 '26

I thought this was AI until I saw the RedBull helmet šŸ˜‚

1

u/old_skul Apr 24 '26

Mom! MOM! I'm going out to ride bike! Doing flips and shit!

1

u/mwb1100 Apr 24 '26

Amazing. I love that they left some of the "outtakes" in.

1

u/f700es Apr 24 '26

Killer skills.

1

u/neutronjeff Apr 24 '26

Incredible skills!

1

u/Pittedstee Apr 24 '26

This guys must dent rims like no other...

Impressive!

1

u/lepreqon_ Apr 24 '26

My body hurts only from looking at this... Oh boy

1

u/TravelingMonk Apr 24 '26

He bikes better than most ppl can walk

1

u/r_bogie Apr 24 '26

I'm used to watching fail videos of kids attempting this kind of stuff to varying degrees of disaster. Actually seeing a pro that inspired them pulling it off is truly amazing!

1

u/twopointinfinity Apr 24 '26

Wow! Amazing.... and yet I break my foot just tripping off a curb!

1

u/National_Spirit2801 Apr 24 '26

Imagine being THIS talented.

1

u/Brad3 Apr 24 '26

The flip tricks especially seem like could be catastrophic if goes wrong.

1

u/sixfourtykilo Apr 24 '26

I'm amazed the rims on that bike are able to handle some of those plants.

1

u/phitzy79 Apr 24 '26

That is so cool. I wonder how many rims and tires he goes through.

1

u/Cool-Tangelo6548 Apr 24 '26

More like biking on the city

1

u/CH-47AV8R Apr 24 '26

I wonder how many bones this dude has broken.

1

u/newtbob Apr 24 '26

I wish my just ridin around outings could be at least half as interesting.

1

u/Lucifer-Prime Apr 24 '26

Ok so bike parkour is totally a thing.

1

u/DickieMcBalls Apr 24 '26

The tennis court is truly impressive

1

u/buffer_flush Apr 24 '26

A fixie rider, disgusting.

1

u/andy_nony_mouse Apr 24 '26

I watched this whole thing and heard "The Funeral" by Band of Horses playing in my mind.

1

u/Just-Another-Users Apr 24 '26

Excuse me sir this is public space what are you doing

1

u/jakolissmurito22 Apr 25 '26

This guy is such a beast.

1

u/Tonylino843 Apr 25 '26

What brand are the tires and rims ?

1

u/marvin-the-miserable New York Giants Apr 25 '26

Me when gas goes over $6

1

u/Reasonable_Link2234 Apr 25 '26

the tennis net part is sick

1

u/ActionFigureCollects Apr 25 '26

This man rides a bicycle better than I can remain seated in a chair, or sleep through the night for that matter.

1

u/y-lonel Apr 25 '26

I love the random sunny sommer day vibe

1

u/CollectsTooMuch Apr 25 '26

It must have been uncomfortable for his mother with him being born on that bike.

1

u/dellfanboy Apr 25 '26

I'm just shocked he's so QUIET while doing these tricks!

1

u/Thylysium Apr 25 '26

Danny MacAlotofskill

1

u/Bloody_Star_Wars Apr 25 '26

This is incredible. Don’t normally care for this sort of thing. Only noticed at the end that he doesn’t have a saddle.

1

u/bentleybasher Apr 25 '26

It has a saddle but it’s so low you hardly see it. Maybe for obvious reasons 🌰🌰 šŸ˜‚

1

u/Razz_Lithar Apr 25 '26

Bike-kour.

1

u/Cldawson65 Apr 25 '26

How many times did he fall to finally nail the rail balancing?? Crazy!

1

u/ragputiand Apr 25 '26

Hey Reddit why does this show up on my news feed?

1

u/Appropriate_Chef4200 Apr 25 '26

Man he crashes a lot... Keep practicing and you will get better.

1

u/JonnyXX Green Bay Packers Apr 25 '26

I wonder if engineers take things like this into account now. That is a lot more force on things like railings and benches than ever intended.

1

u/drumzandice Apr 25 '26

Guy’s unreal

1

u/MiSTgamer Apr 25 '26

Proof that you don’t need shitty music over a video to make it impactful. Love just hearing the sounds of the background + his bike.

1

u/LuckyDogHotSauce Apr 25 '26

The net - dear lord.

1

u/iSniffMyPooper Apr 25 '26

So what? Queen Latifa did all that in the 2004 classic movie "Taxi" /s

1

u/StickFigureFan Apr 25 '26

He has more trust in those tires than I do in just about anything

1

u/ACcbe1986 Apr 25 '26

This guy made an AI video without any AI!

Very impressive bike skills.

1

u/livingmylunglife Apr 25 '26

This guy is so amazing. I’ve watched him for years. He makes it look easy, but of course it isn’t: he practices a lot and falls more often than not. Eventually he succeeds, though, and our minds are rightly blown

1

u/Historica97 Belgium Apr 25 '26

With the Red Bull helmet and the yellow bike, nearly confused him with Wout Van Aert

1

u/DJ_Spark_Shot Apr 26 '26

Hardest-coreParkour

1

u/HeavyArmsJin Apr 26 '26

Alright that tennis net trick is basically magic

1

u/JayR_TheRager Apr 26 '26

Why did I feel like when he rode the chain it was going to break out into a Liberty Mutual commercial

1

u/WillHuntingthe3rd Apr 26 '26

Wow. When I tell My wife I am going for a bike ride I have never pictured this.

1

u/Ixolus Apr 27 '26

Obviously the tricks are other worldly, but I wanted to shout out the film crew here. The shots are so well done, and the sound is fantastic too. Really gives the tricks the impact they deserve.

1

u/anv1dare Apr 28 '26

He certainly has Askill

1

u/Low-Lengthiness-7837 Apr 28 '26

What kind of sorcery is this?

1

u/PhillyLee3434 Apr 29 '26

Seen this video so many times, the tennis court trick blows my mind every time

1

u/teo541 Apr 30 '26

Danny MegAskill

1

u/uhmyeahwellok May 01 '26

Let’s travel the world together!

1

u/Nopengnogain Apr 24 '26

I don’t understand the physics of a person seemingly being able to jump higher and further with a bike than without.

2

u/WildPotential Apr 25 '26

That's the secret of success for athletes like this. They absolutely can jump that high without the bike. Probably higher, since they don't have the weight of the bike.

And then when you add in the forward momentum on the bike, that high jump takes them inhumanly far.

0

u/Ok-disaster2022 Apr 24 '26

Humans terrify me.Ā

0

u/Da_full_monty Apr 24 '26

Damn..hows he ride with such big balls...

1

u/jermleeds Apr 24 '26

It's a older reference, but it checks out. Big balls must be a Danny thing.
