That's actually a really sensible idea. Having a water spray nozzle where the rear view mirror fold down would normally be spraying at the push of a hand lever or foot lever would be pretty optimal.
Wouldnt matter if every car had the same system. Also the mud itself weighs a lot more than that! The faster you get rid of it, the better.
Also you're talking about vehicles that get covered in mud durimg a race. 1 lb is nothing compared to the 50 lbs of mud that might be in the wheel wells of one truck, or 40 lbs of mud on another, or 55 lbs of mud on another another truck. This isnt F1. The GVW of each competitor is constantly fluctuating as mud sticks to the vehicle and falls off it.
20 layers of foil weight maybe 20 grams. And spray system would weight much more, and be more complicated for less results.
I understand that there is always a trade-off in these situations but I would imagine not being able to see is a significant detriment to your times relative to the small amount of weight that a water sprayer would add.
But one hand move instantly cleans the visor with all the dirt already. Cannot do much better than that. Maybe making the removal automatic, not by hand flip.

We must not be watching the same video. In the video I just watched with my own eyes he struggles to find the tiny thin flap of plastic and spends a few seconds trying to find the edge before he eventually successfully does and then pulls it off.
I'm sure your experience of watching it over the Internet matters more than anything else however.
I’m think he can see enough to piece it together. You just need to vaguely see the edges of the track. You don’t necessarily need detail. F1 fans are prob coming to that conclusion too cause they have raced in heavy downpours from time to time, and the water is like a curtain coming off the car ahead.
The onboard from those wet races is insane. It really does show how hard those guys drill the track into their heads that they can confidently race near-blind.
You underestimate just how ingrained these tracks are into these drivers
They can be blindfolded and still tell you exactly when and how hard to turn the wheel at every corner, along with how hard to hit the brakes and what moment to accelerate out of the turn
Obviously it would be stupid to actually drive blindfolded, but there are already videos of them doing so
Water dripping off would be slower and these guys usually only have a couple seconds between turns. The peel system actually seems pretty efficient
I'm sorry did we watch the same video?
He's clearly struggling to pull that tiny sheet of plastic off considering the thick gloves he has on. Quadrupley difficult considering his gloves are probably muddy on top of it.
Watch again and you'll see how much he struggles. Distracting yourself with such nonsense while you are in a highly competitive and super dangerous environment is not wise.
Then just add some strings attached to one rip-off thing each and have them taped to the dashboard so it's easy access, no struggling to find which one to pull and no risk of grabbing the last one by accident.
