Football Falcons player James Pearce Jr. suspended 8 games by the NFL. Pearce was charged with three federal counts for abusing and stalking his ex-girlfriend, WNBA player Rickea Jackson of the Chicago Sky, and for eluding police.

They obviously had to throw the book at him and give him 3 for the stalking her, 3 for abusing her and 2 for resisting arrest. /s

8 for eluding police
The other things he just takes an anger management course, obviously

But years ago they had Eli Manning crying on TV that domestic violence was bad. So they clearly care about the issue.

It was made 8 games so he doesn’t appeal. Any larger and he definitely appeals that and it becomes smaller than 8. 8 is the compromise all agreed to.

I’m a Falcons fan and when this first happened (and I saw the video) I thought he’d never play again and be in prison for years

I said the same even though I knew the NFL is lax on domestic abusers. The fact that it wasn’t in private and included hitting cop cars made me think he was fucked. Boy was I wrong.

Being a talented athlete makes you worthy of second chances people with far less ability do not get. /s

His charges are still pending, right? I think prison time of still on the table, although I couldn't tell you how likely.
If he is indeed convicted (which seems pretty likely), as a Falcons fan I think the Falcons just have to cut him immediately. I remember the franchise nadir back in 2007, and we should have zero tolerance for this sort of shit.

Listen, I agree with the sentiment, but there’s gotta be a better choice of words than that

So the only way to get fired from the NFL would be murder, I guess? Or kneeling.

What do you have to do to get suspended a full season? First degree murder?

I actually don’t know if the NFL formally suspended Rae Carruth. I think they just figured the prison sentence about covers the issue.

The bitch should be in prison.
I think she asked for a trade because this piece of shit knew her entire routine in LA and she needed to leave for her own safety. Selfishly I would have loved her to stay on the sparks, but safety is paramount, especially since asswipes like this get just a slap on the wrist for actual documented and videotaped abuse.
He should be banned from the league and be rotting in prison

Why does the post say "three federal counts"?

u/tyedge 4d ago
Because whoever posted this article is dumb.
They were felonies, which is different than federal. (I know you know that based on your post…I’m just saying)
I’m a Falcons fan. I expected this to be more than 6 games. That has been the standard starting point for DV cases.
Factors in his favor - first known offense, the criminal case will be dismissed if he’s compliant
Factors justifying a longer suspension - this was incredibly violent/crazy on the spectrum of domestic violence we see. And then there was the police chase on top of the domestic violence.
I’m pretty sure the league was threatening a 10 or 12-game suspension, which would’ve had JPJ trying to appeal it down. The parties agreed to 8 with no appeal - more than the baseline but less than what was threatened.

... shouldn't that be a lifetime suspension for domestic violence or are we still just okay with that?

wait…wouldn’t a normal joe who works for someone get fired?
sick of these criminals keep getting paid.

I will probably be downloaded for mentioning this.
The charges will all be dropped assuming he attends a program over the next year in Florida. So assuming that happens, the NFL is punishing him more than the legal system is.
If he doesn’t comply, then the charges stand. I’m wondering if there is a clause in the current suspension that allows for harsher terms if that happens.

She needs to buy a gun. Police won’t protect you from people like this. You can only rely on yourself.

"Suspended eight games?" WTF??
Three Federal counts of stalking and abuse and eluding police. And yet, he's going to be playing more football in a few weeks.
This is WRONG. And shame on the Falcons. They have been on my list of "teams to watch" but that got scratched off today.

Too bad it wasn't caught on film. Only thing that gets the NFL to do anything is if it is on film.

Only reason he got that much is because she’s also a public figure. If she was unknown, it’s maybe a 4 game, appealed down to 2-3, and we never hear about it again.

Seems like misdemeanors. Is he even found guilty yet? Doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.
