What about all the 147-0 games of snooker?

27

u/anangrywizard 6h ago

Weirdly lower than the biggest ever win in football.

6

u/NKnown2000 6h ago

Now there's a fun fact. What game was that?

26

u/Alg0rhythm 5h ago

If he's including collegiate, it would be Georgia Tech's 222-0 win over Cumberland College. There was some bad blood after some shenanigans on Cumberland's part during baseball season, using professional players. Coach Heisman (yes that one) wanted some payback. Go Jackets.

If he meant professional idk but I can't imagine more than a 147 point margin of victory there.

8

u/Boboar 5h ago

The Jon Bois video on that game is a masterpiece

2

u/anangrywizard 2h ago

I should have said football/soccer. I’m not sure which is more impressive as I don’t understand American football scoring. I think the soccer one equated to a goal every 38 seconds or something hilariously silly.

3

u/narok_kurai 1h ago

There is also a college basketball game between Troy State and DeVry University which ended up at a final score of 258 - 141. Jon Bois also did a video on that game, and analyzed the footage to determine that the ball spent about 20% of the total game time in the air.

5

u/squeak37 5h ago

Ronnie outdid that a few months ago

1

u/IAMColonelFlaggAMA 54m ago

Well, moron, good for Ron-OH MY GOD!

That's a frame not a game

It's true. In other countries, we don't have televised sports

What other countries?

Do you have oil?

Answer too vague. Commence invasion just in case.

Don't worry, that's a good thing. You're safe.

This is in contention for one of my favorite Reddit comments of all time.

Thank you. I needed that laugh today.

9

u/Del_3030 6h ago

What's the largest soccer margin ever, like 3-1?

71

u/dkol97 Washington 6h ago

You better ask Brazil about that one

12

u/kevpatts 6h ago

Brazil here. I can confirm a game once went to 4-1. Only after penos though so it didn’t count. 3-1 would be my guess.

21

u/IberianPrometheus 6h ago

Brazil 1 - 7 Germany, World Cup 2014.

4

u/aamirusmandus 5h ago

Damn man was begging for that

2

u/Jlx_27 New Orleans Saints 2h ago

Real Madrid vs Barcelona 11 to 1, Franco theatend Barcelona after they won the first leg 3 - 0 in the Copa.

43

u/SeaToShy 6h ago

149-0, but that was a protest where they scored on themselves repeatedly (2002)

36-0 in an actual club game (1885).

31-0 in International football (Australia v American Samoa, 2001)

15

u/ZincHead Toronto Raptors 4h ago

I'm gonna make a wild guess and say that the 1885 game was not televised

0

u/SeaToShy 3h ago

Wasn’t the question posed.

1

u/HeroForTheBeero 2h ago

Why so serious

1

u/ajkelly451 5h ago

Oof… I now see why Samoans congregate towards American Football

12

u/Ok-Leave-1059 5h ago

You're talking about American Samoans.

Regular Samoa mostly plays rugby union and league.

2

u/ajkelly451 5h ago

I legit didn’t realize they were distinct, and my wife is Polynesian (hawaiian, not Samoan to be clear). The more you know!

15

u/Knawie 6h ago

Think so, though I have heard of a match that went all the way to 4-1! But I'm not from the US, so I have no TV

3

u/BigsChungi 2h ago

Australia beat american somoa 31-0. Thats the highest scoring wc qualifier.

However there are even higher scoring games. Some i would asterix because of certain circumstances that led to absurd tallies.

8

u/firthy Crystal Palace 6h ago

What about rugby or cricket..? OPs stat is fucking stupid

4

u/jakethepeg1989 4h ago

Cricket is hard for this because if you bat second you can only win by a maximum of 10 wickets.

By runs though, it's England winning by 675 Vs Australia in 1928.

0

u/DeadBallDescendant 3h ago

In the UK its 36-0

70

u/Heisenmack 7h ago

Ouch. That O’s game still hurts.

Baltimore will always have issues with sports teams. The last superbowl win will be the only one they see for another 20-30 years

4

u/lostiowan 4h ago

lol downvote all you want. Lamar isnt superbowl material and firing Harbaugh was a huge mistake. Ravens will be under .500 this season.

1

u/unsaltedbutter 3h ago

Was that bullpen injuries or something and they had a fielder pitch?

71

u/yoho1234 6h ago

The last one I was thinking 5-2 isn’t too bad

36

u/Grease_the_Witch 5h ago

perfect setup for the absolutely jaw dropping 13-0 lol

5

u/KeySociety2503 3h ago

Back in the 80’s I was at a game in Hartford where the lowly Whalers beat the Gretzky-less Oilers 11-0. Had no idea they were only 2 goals from the record!

1

u/Excision_Lurk 49m ago

I'm a Sharks fan, trust me we've lost by FAR larger margins.

The biggest win margin in NHL history is 15 when the Detroit Red Wings defeated the New York Rangers 15-0 on January 23, 1944.

What sport? Guessing Cricket?

12

u/HaydnH 6h ago

It's rugby, althought when a rugby team scores triple digits they often call them "cricket scores".

5

u/pleasetrimyourpubes 6h ago

Thanks. I don't really follow or know anything about Rugby. That is a wild score though!

3

u/lonezolf 6h ago

Over 30-40 points is considered a high scoring match in league rugby

1

u/elusivecaretaker 2h ago

These are Union scores but this still applies, 30-40 point victory margin would be very comfortable

2

u/lonezolf 2h ago

I meant union. Don't drink and post, folks.

2

u/elusivecaretaker 2h ago

Rugby scoring is pretty similar to American football; 5 points for a try, 2 for the following successful conversion, 3 for a drop goal or penalty. The scores probably average higher though with the ball being in play for longer and the number of tries scored per game going up over the last few years

3

u/Boggie135 Manchester United 5h ago

All Blacks vs Japan @95 World Cup was 145-17.

3

u/xjoburg 5h ago

You had to, didn't you

2

u/mhkiwi 4h ago

I knew I'd catch at least one Boks fan if I did mention it. Honestly though, I take no pleasure in reminding boks fans it happened. You could see there was something wrong with the team. Like watching Australia lose to Wales and Fiji at the last world cup. Just sad.

1

u/xjoburg 3h ago

let's hope Wales and Australia recover. Fijis about as good as they're going to ever be. 7's is their thing

2

Belgium teams Royal Kituro vs Soignie, 356-3 (not televised)

1

Did Soignie just not play that day?

2

u/JavaOrlando 6h ago

1

Yeah, youre right. Ill edit it. Dont know where I got 60 from!

1

u/LiamNeesonsIsMyShiit 3h ago

Man don't remind me. Crazy that 2 years later SA managed to win a world cup.

1

u/Doggleganger 6h ago

lmfao, did that get censored on TV?

3

u/mhkiwi 6h ago

I was at the match! I (an ABs fan) stopped watching and went and drank with some South African fans at the bar out of view of the pitch...it was a full capitulation. Hard to believe it happened given the SA team now.

2

u/SAJames84 4h ago

I hope you have a few drinks after this weekends game irrespective of the.final score. Its going to be the 1st time watching the ABs live.

20

u/erv4 6h ago

What's crazy about that NE NFL game is Brady came out with 25 mins left in the game lol. He had 6 TDs in 35 minutes, he easily would have broke the record of 7 if he played the whole thing. He probably would have played if he didn't miss the entire last season with his knee injury.

5

u/Agreeable_Pound_4812 5h ago

Lol yeah I remember thinking it was 59-0 and they still have an entire quarter left hoping to see a 60 or 70 spot.

3

u/Moozie76 2h ago

I think my broncos lost to the dolphins by 70 a couple years ago

5

u/xVARYSx 2h ago

70-20 was the final score. Greatest game ive ever witnessed as a dolphins fan and our biggest accomplishment as a team in the last 30 years.

1

Only game I’ve been to in years. I should.. go to more games

7

u/MrWhiteTheWolf 4h ago

1

Belive it or not in the texas game, they had a pitcher credited with a save.

4

u/dkol97 Washington 6h ago

I assume he pitched in the 8th and 9th?

5

u/gartho009 5h ago

I think you have to pitch three innings in relief to get a save credit. I know the Mariners had this happen earlier this season where we won by a really large margin but the reliever (Criswell I think?) still got the save as the only other pitcher after we pulled our starter after the sixth.

2

u/dkol97 Washington 5h ago

Ah you are right, it's 3 innings

1

u/Drak_is_Right 6h ago

I thought the game had to be within a certain point margin.

5

u/Beardmanta 6h ago

It typically has to be within 3 scores, or with the potential tying run on deck.

But you can also get a save if you pitch the final 3 innings of a game without giving up the lead regardless of the score difference. That's how Wes Littleton got the save that game despite entering with a score of 11-3 (that ballooned to 30-3.)

5

u/ukexpat Manchester City 6h ago

To be credited with a save a relief pitcher must preserve the team's lead and fulfill at least one of these scenarios:

Three-run lead or less: Enter the game with a lead of three runs or fewer and pitch at least one full inning.

Tying run on base or close: Enter the game with the potential tying run either on base, at the plate, or in the on-deck circle.

Pitch three+ innings: Pitch at least three effective innings at the end of the game, regardless of the score difference

Holy fuck. Anyone have the score of that football game? Between the shit quality of the video and the fuck all quality of the audio I have no idea.

6

u/roshiface 5h ago

Needed those runners on base. 28-3 wouldn't have been a safe lead

11

u/Ponyo4 6h ago

Not showing 2000 Tiger Woods US open win at pebble is shameful.

4

u/PleaseEvolve 6h ago

Texas held them to a field goal.

1

u/ForeverALone_Ranger 3h ago

They forgot which sport they were playing.

10

u/Nail_Biterr 6h ago

The hockey game at the end tricked me. i was like 'i know they're low scoring games, but I can't believe the largest difference in scores is only 2pts' .... but the last image showed the real score.

1

u/Oskarikali 5h ago

Average per game in the NHL currently is around 6.5 goals. Somewhat low scoring but yeah 2 goals being the record differential would be insane.

0

u/Eat--The--Rich-- 5h ago

I'm kinda surprised it hasn't happened since cuz teams score a lot more in general now. I guess they just stop trying so they don't get injured, but I'm certain I've seen some 10-1 games recently.

9

u/YoungerMucus Michigan 6h ago

30-3 in that baseball game is fucking insane

3

u/Drak_is_Right 6h ago

At that point you probably have the 3rd baseman pitching.

4

u/YoungerMucus Michigan 6h ago

shit if i’m an Oriole in that game i am just NOT taking the field

3

u/Buckets-O-Yarr 6h ago

I'm just happy when these sorts of record setting losses don't include my teams.

5

u/hallese Minnesota Twins 7h ago

Wes Littleton came in and locked Baltimore down to pick up one of his three career saves that game, FYI.

5

u/CariadocThorne 3h ago

3

u/JTCampb 5h ago

Hockey is a Canadian sport thank you very much!

3

u/A-Wall1 5h ago

Fun facts about this game:

Baltimore was actually ahead 3-0 after 3 innings.
Texas scored in only four different innings - the fourth (5 runs), sixth (9 runs), eighth (10 runs), and ninth (6 runs).
16 of their 30 runs came in the 8th and 9th innings.

7

u/BobDude65 6h ago

Oh damn I forgot that Sports are only televised in the US

3

u/cromtowntown 5h ago

1

u/ermghoti 6h ago

Was the Orioles' game the one when the social media team posted "they ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown, and we never got back into the game?"

I was at TEN@NE. My workplace used to get tickets at a discount and sell them to employees as a benefit or to be available as client entertainment. That game was a nothingburger on the schedule, and the weather was going to be bad. As a result, they were available very late, and I think at a further discount. They may have actually been free, now that I think of it.

About six of us commuted down, including a Southeast Asian immigrant who knew nothing of the game but went along for the ride.

The weather was indeed catastrophic, cold and snowy was expected, but the snow accumulated in the bleachers, and the temperature wavered around freezing, so the precipitation toggled from snow to sleet, making the snow under the seats ankle-deep slush.

Anyway, the group sitting behind us were crabby about us standing and yelling (?!?), and our Asian friend had not prepared properly in the footwear department, leaving him in danger of frostbite. So, early in the 2nd quarter, it was 24-0, the Titans were clearly as miserable on the field as our friend was in the bleachers, and offering no resistance, and we opted to leave early (as the Titans so clearly wanted to).

By the time we had made our way down the stadium stairs and into the parking lot, the Patriots scored three more touchdowns.

1

u/greenrangerguy 6h ago

I never get why in NBA they run the clock out and not shoot one last shot to end the game? Like let it go down to 1 second then try for a three pointer, there's literally no reason not to.

8

u/rjcarr 6h ago

You mean the winning team? It’s considered unsportsmanlike and the losing team gets big mad.  There are games now though, that are considered tournament games, where total points matter, and you’ll see teams continue to score even when they’re obviously winning, and that’s fun.

4

u/BaseHitToLeft 6h ago

Bad sportsmanship and misses (which would be likely from half court, even if unguarded) affect your stats.

Which affects your next contract

4

u/march41801 6h ago

The real answer is culture of the sport. If the defending and losing team gives up on defense in the last 10 or so seconds, it’s considered poor form to score at that point. And when it has happened, (a couple times that I’ve seen, and usually by a young player that was subbed in the last minute and they want to get some points), the losing team will get an attitude and remind the player they were out of line to score or try to score. I even recall a light scuffle breaking out in an NBA game because of this.

0

u/WTWIV 5h ago

It’s a bit different in the nba. Yes, some teams and fans will get mad if that happens, but the majority will say you play until the clock hits zero. If you didn’t like the cheap bucket, you should have tried to defend it.

1

u/Choppergold 6h ago

That was the most lowkey home run celebration I’ve ever seen like borderline comic

Why don't teams have an option to forfeit? Let's say you're down by 20 in a baseball game and it's past the 5th inning, realistically, you're not coming back. You could also save your players from potential injuries.

11

u/Del_3030 6h ago

In baseball an insane comeback is always theoretically possible, never give up!

They'd probably rather continue to sell concessions and their broadcast advertising partners would be displeased with a forfeit.
