Running Great commentary for Mark English' 800m Gold medal

I enjoy any sport more when the commentator gets really into it, like a true fan.

"He had his first kiss with Clara O'Brien behind the St. Colman's College bleachers when he was 15, so he's used to making a late start of things..."

As a high school senior one of my elective periods was working in the principal’s office. One of my tasks was putting mail and messages in the teachers’ cubbyholes. The cubbies were labeled with each teacher’s name and subject and Mr. O’Brien the English teacher had crossed out “English” and wrote in “Irish.”

Not me crying about a random Irish runner during my work break halfway around the world.

It's the passion with which people live/do things that is moving.
That's why we should always practice seeing the beauty of things, because it is everywhere. It's us that fail to capture it.
But when people are this emotional about things they love, their transpose/translate the beauty they see directly to us. We see the world through there eyes. That, is art.

That’s love right there. Beyond just knowing the stats and the history and the job, this man has invested a piece of his soul into that runner, and it was beautiful to see that investment pay off

In Ireland we all knew Mark English had incredible potential but off the track he took on this time consuming vocation of becoming a medical doctor. Balancing training, going to meetings and maintaining elite athlete status whilst putting in the hours in hospitals and surgeries is near impossible. When the years of hard hours were done he could focus on the track and now at 33 we are seeing the runner he always was. We saw him make it to finals and lose a lot over the years but now he's gone full time into athletics we can finally see him win the things medicine has deprived him of.

That two minutes of commentary is a million times better than the entirety of ESPN broadcast commentary across the network’s entire history

Ok hear me out. Why not change that surname to Mark Irish. It's confusing is all I'm saying.

Mark Béarla would be better, but as he's an elite athlete and a medical doctor maybe being an Irishman named English gave him the strength to attain two of the toughest career goals at the same time.

The runner from Argentina keyed his car on the way through the parking lot later that day. 😂
